  • Multilayer ceramic capacitor (MLCC) miniaturization has increased the demand for superfine $BaTiO_3$ powder due to its thin dielectric layer. Hydrothermally synthesized $BaTiO_3$ powder a pseudo-cubic phase resulting in poor dielectric properties due to size effect and hydroxyl ion inclusion in the $BaTiO_3$ lattice. We attempted a superfine (lower than 100 nm) highly tetragonal $BaTiO_3$ powder via a solvothermal method without precipitating agent. The lattice parameters and the relative amounts of tetragonal and cubic phases were determined using Rietveld refinement.

  • Low temperature firing $(Ba, Sr)TiO_{3}$ dielectrics were successfully prepared with lead based glass and those electrical properties were investigated. Different amount of PbO content glass materials were added to dielectrics to investigate the sinterability and its dielectric properties. Also, various compositions of ceramic capacitors were prepared to applicate in multilayer ceramic capacitors. A large amount of experiment has been done with various Pb contented glasses and different sintering temperatures. The sintering temperature of $(Ba,Sr)TiO_{3}$can be reduced from $1350^{\circ}C$to as low as $1050^{\circ}C$ with 4wt% addition of $PbO-ZnO-B_{2}O_{2}$ glass materials. Its dielectric constant at room temperature was up to 8100 with low dielectric loss, 0.005. This ceramic capacitor showed fully fired microstructures with its grain size of 1-3$\mu \textrm{m}$. The sintered body which was sintered at $1150^{\circ}C$ for 2hr with 4wt% $PbO-ZnO-B_{2}O_{2}$ glass material addition satisfied the Z5U specification of the EIAS.

  • We investigated the structural and electrical properties of the Ba ($Zr_{x}$ $T_{il-x}$ )$O_3$ (BZT thin films with a mole fraction of x=0.2 and thickness 150 nm for the application in MLCC (Multilayer Ceramic Capacitor). BZT films were prepared on $Pt/SiO_2$/Si substrate at various substrate temperatures by the RF-magnetron sputtering system. When the substrate temperature was above $500^{\circ}C$, we could obtain multi-crystalline BZT films oriented at (110), (111), and (200) directions. The crystallization of the film and high dielectric constant were observed with the increase of substrate temperature. Capacitance of the film deposited at high temperature is more sensitive to the applied voltage than that of the film deposited at low temperature. This paper reports surface morphology, dielectric constant, dissipation factor, and C-V characteristics for BZT films deposited at three different temperatures. The BZT film deposited at 40$0^{\circ}C$ shows stable electrical properties but a little small dielectric constant for MLCC application.

  • A very small size 2.4 GHz ISM band BPF(Band Pass Filter) is realized using LTCC Multi-layer technology. Proposed design method enables to achieve BPF size $2.0\times1.2\times0.8mm^3$. A $lambda/4$ resonator with shunt-to-ground loaded capacitor is used to shorten resonator length, achieving higher quality factor. Also this resonator enables BPF to improve out-of-band rejection. Coupling coefficients between coupled strip-line resonators and external quality factor (Qe) of a resonator are derived and applied to the filter design. The measured results show good agreement with simulated data.

  • With the increasing demand for electronic products, the amount of multilayer ceramic capacitor (MLCC) waste has also increased. Recycling technology has recently gained attention because it can simultaneously address raw material supply and waste disposal issues. However, research on recovering valuable metals from MLCCs and converting the recovered metals into high-value-added materials remains insufficient. Herein, we describe an electrospinning (E-spinning) process to recover nickel from MLCCs and modulate the morphology of the recovered nickel oxide particles. The nickel oxalate powder was recovered using organic acid leaching and precipitation. Nickel oxide nanoparticles were prepared via heat treatment and ultrasonic milling. A mixture of nickel oxide particles and polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) was used as the E-spinning solution. A PVP/NiO nanowire composite was fabricated via E-spinning, and a nickel oxide nanowire with a network structure was manufactured through calcination. The nanowire diameters and morphologies are discussed based on the nickel oxide content in the E-spinning solution.

  • This paper has designed, fabricated, and analyzed the passive devices realized using low temperature co-fired ceramic (LTCC) multi layer substrates by dividing into the shrinkage process and the non-shrinkage process. Using two types of ceramic materials with dielectric constant 7 or 40, we have fabricated the same shape of various elements in 2 different processes and compared the characteristics. For the substrate of dielctric constant 40, compared with the shrinkage process which has 17% shrink in the X and Y directions with 36% shrink in the Z direction, the non-shrinkage process has 43% shrink in the Z direction without shrink in the X and Y directions, so high dimensional accuracy and surface flatness can be obtained. The inductances and capacitances of the fabricated elements are estimated from measurement using empirical analysis equations of parameters and implemented as a design library. Depending on the substrate and the process, the inductance and capacitance depending on the turn number of winding and unit area have been measured, and empirical polynomials are proposed to predict element values.

  • High capacitance X5R MLCCs based on $BaTiO_3$ ceramic dielectric layers exhibit a single broad, asymmetric arc shape impedance and modulus response over the wide frequency range between 1 MHz to 0.01 Hz. Analysis according to the conventional brick-layer model for polycrystalline conductors employing a series connection of multiple RC parallel circuits leads to parameters associated with large errors and of little physical significance. A new parametric impedance model is shown to satisfactorily describe the experimental spectra, which is a parallel network of one resistor R representing the DC conductivity thermally activated by 1.32 eV, one ideal capacitor C exactly representing bulk capacitance, and a constant phase element (CPE) Q with complex capacitance $A(i{\omega})^{{\alpha}-1}$ with ${\alpha}$ close to 2/3 and A thermally activated by 0.45 eV or ca. 1/3 of activation energy of DC conductivity. The feature strongly indicate the CK1 model by J. R. Macdonald, where the CPE with 2/3 power-law exponent represents the polarization effects originating from mobile charge carriers. The CPE term is suggested to be directly related to the trapping of the electronic charge carriers and indirectly related to the ionic defects responsible for the insulation resistance degradation.
