An Integer Programming-based Local Search for the Multiple-choice Multidimensional Knapsack Problem

  • The multiple-choice multidimensional knapsack problem (MMKP) is a variant of the well known 0-1 knapsack problem, which is known as an NP-hard problem. This paper proposes a method for solving the MMKP using the integer programming-based local search (IPbLS). IPbLS is a kind of a local search and uses integer programming to generate a neighbor solution. The most important thing in IPbLS is the way to select items participating in the next integer programming step. In this paper, three ways to select items are introduced and compared on 37 well-known benchmark data instances. Experimental results shows that the method using linear programming is the best for the MMKP. It also shows that the proposed method can find the equal or better solutions than the best known solutions in 23 data instances, and the new better solutions in 13 instances.

  • This work aims to establish an algorithm for solving the problem of convex programming with several objective-functions with linear constraints. Starting from the idea of Rosen's algorithm for solving the problem of convex programming with linear con-straints and taking into account the solution concept from multi-dimensional programming represented by a program which reaches "the best compromise" we are extending this method in the case of multidimensional programming. The concept of direction of min-imization is introduced and a necessary and sufficient condition is given for a s∈Rn direction to be a direction is min-imal. The two numerical examples presented at the end validate the algorithm.

  • Since the non-metric Multidimensional scaling (nMDS), a data visualization technique, provides with insights about engineering, economic, and scientific applications, it is widely used for analyzing large non-metric multidimensional data sets. The nMDS requires a fitness function to measure fit of the proximity data by the distances among n objects. Most commonly used fitness functions are nonlinear and have a difficulty to find a good configuration. In this paper, we propose a new fitness function, an absolute value type, and show its advantages.

다차원 배낭 문제를 위한 정수계획법 기반 지역 탐색 기법 (Integer Programming-based Local Search Techniques for the Multidimensional Knapsack Problem)

  • 정수계획법 기반 지역 탐색은 단순 언덕오르기 탐색을 기반으로 하는 지역 탐색의 일종으로서 기존의 지역 탐색과는 달리 이웃해 생성 시 정수계획법을 활용한다. 기존 연구 [1]에 의하면 정수계획법 기반 지역 탐색은 경영과학 및 인공지능 분야에서 많은 관심을 받아 온 다차원 배낭 문제를 해결하는 데 매우 효과적인 것으로 알려져 있다. 그러나 해당 연구에서는 OR-Library에 있는 다차원 배낭 문제들 중 규모가 가장 큰 문제들만을 대상으로 하여 정수계획법 기반 지역 탐색의 우수성을 검증하였다는 단점이 있다. 본 논문에서는 그 외의 문제들을 대상으로 정수계획법 기반 지역 탐색을 적용함으로써 보다 객관적으로 정수계획법 기반 지역 탐색의 우수성을 검증한다. 아울러 본 논문에서는 기존의 정수계획법 기반 지역 탐색이 단순 언덕오르기 탐색과 정수계획법을 결합한 것과는 달리 언덕오르기 탐색, 타부 탐색, 시뮬레이티드 어닐링과 같은 다른 지역 탐색 기법과 정수계획법을 결합하는 방안을 제시한다. 실험 결과, 정수계획법 기반 지역 탐색은 중소 규모의 다차원 배낭 문제들에 있어서도 기존의 가장 좋은 휴리스틱 탐색 기법에 비해 유사하거나 더 우수한 성능을 발휘함을 확인하였다.

  • This paper introduces a new approach to develop a fast gait for quadruped robot using GP(genetic programming). Planning gaits for legged robots is a challenging task that requires optimizing parameters in a highly irregular and multidimensional space. Several recent approaches have focused on using GA(genetic algorithm) to generate gait automatically and shown significant improvement over previous results. Most of current GA based approaches used pre-selected parameters, but it is difficult to select the appropriate parameters for the optimization of gait. To overcome these problems, we proposed an efficient approach which optimizes joint angle trajectories using genetic programming. Our GP based method has obtained much better results than GA based approaches for experiments of Sony AIBO ERS-7 in Webots environment.

  • Design Problems are often both multidimensional and highly interactive. Very rarely does any part of a designed thing serve only one purpose. The activity of designing is thus a goal-directed activity and normally a goal-directed problem-solving activity. This means, problem solving is finding a way to get from some initial situation to a desired goal. Designers are transforming agents within a society whose goals are to improve the human condition through physical metamorphosis. Many theorist have agreed that designing involves problem solving or decision making. Accordingly evaluation plays an essential role in design activity. The evaluation factors include all attributes that have levels specified by quantitative and qualitative objectives Alternatives in multi-objective decision prOblems generally possess numerous attributes by which they can be described and compared. However since qualitative factors are difficult to quantify as numeral estimates, these factors have tended to be ignored without regard for their importance to human content. We adapted the Accumulative Evaluation Model as an evaluation algorithm for IDES. Industrial Design Evaluation System (IDES) consists of 3 major modules ( 1 Design Element, 2.Matrix, 3.Evaluation). It is intended to be an aid for design evaluation. The luther thinks IDES is a new design evaluation approach which could provide effective rating of design values to make value judgements. It is an attempt to provide industrial designers with access to design evaluation. The author's aim is to produce an Object-Oriented Evaluation System which can guide the designers and decision makers under complex design projects. It uses\ulcorner an Object-Oriented Programming for this prototype, Because of managing complexity (Flexibility and Reusability) and improving productivity(Extensibility & Maintainability and Programming by User) in software development process. The author has chose the C++ because it is a hybrid, rather than pure Object-Oriented Language.

Efficient Virtual Machine Resource Management for Media Cloud Computing

  • Virtual Machine (VM) resource management is crucial to satisfy the Quality of Service (QoS) demands of various multimedia services in a media cloud platform. To this end, this paper presents a VM resource allocation model that dynamically and optimally utilizes VM resources to satisfy QoS requirements of media-rich cloud services or applications. It additionally maintains high system utilization by avoiding the over-provisioning of VM resources to services or applications. The objective is to 1) minimize the number of physical machines for cost reduction and energy saving; 2) control the processing delay of media services to improve response time; and 3) achieve load balancing or overall utilization of physical resources. The proposed VM allocation is mapped into the multidimensional bin-packing problem, which is NP-complete. To solve this problem, we have designed a Mixed Integer Linear Programming (MILP) model, as well as heuristics for quantitatively optimizing the VM allocation. The simulation results show that our scheme outperforms the existing VM allocation schemes in a media cloud environment, in terms of cost reduction, response time reduction and QoS guarantee.

차량 내부 네트워크에서 메세지 인증을 이용한 사이버 공격 탐지 (Cyber Attack Detection Using Message Authentication for Controller Area Networks)

  • 본 논문은 차량 내부 네트워크에서 메시지 인증을 사용하여 사이버 공격을 탐지할 수 있는 보안 시스템을 제안한다. 자동차 내부 네트워크는 브로드캐스트 방식으로 메시지를 전송하고 노드의 식별자를 사용하지 않으므로 송신자를 식별할 수 없다. 송신 노드는 제어 데이터를 암호화 해시함수를 사용하여 메시지인증코드를 생성하여 제어 데이터와 같이 전송한다. 메시지인증코드 생성 시, 결과의 임의성을 증가시키기 위해서 다차원 카오틱 맵을 적용하였다. 수신 노드는 수신한 메시지의 제어 데이터에 대해 생성된 메시지인증코드를 수신 메시지에 존재하는 메시지인증코드 값과 비교하여 전송된 메시지의 위조 여부를 탐지한다. CANoe와 CAPL(Communication Access Programming Language)을 사용하여 차량 내부 네트워크 환경을 구성하고 사이버 공격을 수행하여 성능을 평가하였으며 탐지율 100%의 성능을 보였다.

얼굴 표정공간의 계층적 가시화 (Hierarchical Visualization of the Space of Facial Expressions)

  • 본 논문은 애니메이터로 하여금 계층적 가시화 기법에 의한 표정들의 공간으로부터 일련의 표정을 실시간적으로 선택하게 함으로써 얼굴 표정 애니메이션을 생성하는 기법을 기술한다 본 시스템에서는 약 2400여개의 표정 프레임을 이용하여 2차원 표정공간을 구성하였으며, 이를 위해서는 한 표정을 표시하는 상태표현으로 얼굴 특징 점들 간의 상호거리를 표시하는 거리 행렬을 사용한다. 또한 두 표정 간의 최단거리를 구하기 위해 다이내믹 프로그래밍 기법을 사용한다. 그리고 다차원 공간인 표정공간을 항해하기 위해서 다차원 스케일링 기법을 이용하여 2차원 공간으로 가시화한다. 그러나 표정의 수가 너무 많아 애니메이터가 항해를 하는데 어려움이 많기 때문에 계층적 가시화 기법이 필요하다. 표정공간을 계층적으로 분할하기 위해, 퍼지 클러스터링을 이용한다. 초기 단계에서는 약 10개의 클러스터 센터(후보 키 프레임)를, 단계가 증가될 때마다 후보 키 프레임의 수를 두 배로 하여 클러스터링하고 2차원 평면에 표시한다. 애니메이터는 초기 단계의 후보 키 프레임들 중에서 특정 키 프레임들을 선택하여 항해경로를 생성한다. 특정 단계에서는 그전 단계의 항해경로를 따라 새로운 키 프레임들을 선택하여 항해경로를 갱신하고, 마지막 단계에서 항해경로를 갱신하면 애니메이션 설정이 끝난다. 본 논문은 본 시스템이 어떤 효과가 있는지를 알기 위해 애니메이터들로 하여금 본 시스템을 사용하여 얼굴 애니메이션을 생성하게 하였으며, 그 결과를 평가한다.

AIDS의 학교 보건교육 도입에 관한 연구 (A Study for the Development of a School-based Health Education of AIDS)

  • AIDS and the spectrum of Human Immunodeficiency Virus(HIV) infections present a monumental challenge to the health of the Korean public. In response to this special challenge, I think public education and voluntary behavior changes are the most effective measures to fight the spread of the disease. Adolescents represent a critical risk group for prevention and intervention programming. Research indicates sexually active adolescents, homosexual contact, illicit drug use are an gradually increasing. These characteristically adolescent risk-taking behaviors suggest the need for schools and communities to mobilize intervention strategies. Schools are highly efficient ways to reach a majority of young people in Korea with HIV prevention programs. These programs include substantial attention to sexual and drug use behaviors with the long term objective of a multidimensional school health program. Information resulting from risk behavior surveillance activities and guidance on school health curricula is particularly useful. What is needed for adolescents is a revamping of education to give students the critical thinking and analytic skills that allow them to apply knowledge, make decisions, and think independently. The best HIV preventive education provides young people with opportunities to learn and practice just those skills. In the early stages of HIV education were focused solely on information. Providing information is easy but unfortunately, behavior change is not that simple to activate. Information must be combined with values exploration and skilly building, including responsible decision making, negotiation, refusal, and critical thinking skills. The same knowledge, attitudes and skills needed for effective HIV prevention also prevent or reduce other risks, including other sexually transmitted diseases, unwanted pregnancies, and alcohol or other drug use. The role of other youth serving organizations in HIV prevention is also important: parental and youth involvement is needed; it's important to presidential and governament leadership is essential to prevention education; promote integrated adolescent programs, to enhance health and education sector collaboration; and of course, we need to expand research on adolescent health and engage the media in health promotion. Among these changes, a school-based systematic health education of AIDS is certainly one of the essentials.
