  • Over the past decade, the improvement of communications technologies and the rapid spread of www (World Wide Web) have brought on the exponential growth of users using Internet and real time multimedia multicast services like video conferencing, tele-immersive virtual reality, and Internet games. The dense-wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) networks have been widely accepted as a promising approach to meet the ever-increasing bandwidth demands of Internet users, especially in next generation Internet backbone networks for nation-wide or global coverage. A major challenge in the next generation Internet backbone networks based on DWDM technologies is the resolution of the multicasting RWA (Routing and Wavelength Assignment) problem; given a set of wavelengths in the DWDM network, we set up light-paths by routing and assigning a wavelength for each connection so that the multicast connections are set-upped as many as possible. Finding such optimal multicast connections has been proven to be Non-deterministic Polynomial-time-complete. In this paper, we suggest a new heuristic multicast routing and wavelength assignment method for multicast sessions called DVS-PMIPMR (Differentiated Virtual Source-based Priority Minimum Interference Path Multicast Routing algorithm). We measured the performance of the proposed algorithm in terms of number of wavelength and wavelength channel. The simulation results demonstrate that DVS-PMIPMR algorithm is superior to previous multicast routing algorithms.

  • In this paper, we classify multicast methods into three categories, i.e., tree-based, path-based, and hybrid-based multicasts, for a multicomputer employing the bidirectional torus network and wormhole routing. We propose the dynamic partition multicast routing (DPMR) as a path-based algorithm. As a hybrid-based algorithm, we suggest the hybrid multicast routing (HMR), which employs the tree-based approach in the first phase of routing and the path-based approach in the second phase. Performance is measured in terms of the average latency for various message length to compare three multicast routing algorithms. We also compare the performance of wormhole routing having variable buffer size with virtual cut-through switching. The message latency for each switching method is compared using the DPMR algorithm to evaluate the buffer size trade-off on the performance.

  • A mobile ad-hoc network routing protocols for transmission of multimedia contents need to have low delay time and to maintain the established route because it should secure quality of service(QoS) of the network. In this paper, the proposed protocol, termed HODMRP (History-based On-Demand Multicast Routing Protocol), is enhanced On-Demand Multicast Routing Protocol (ODMRP) by adding the criterion which is the session history for establishing route. The characteristic of this protocol is that data can be transmitted using the redundant route which is already selected by session history, if it occurs that the route is broken, HODMRP have better Packet Delivery Ratio (PDR) value and lower delay time than ODMRP by the simulation results.

  • Multicast communication of mobile ad hoc networks is vulnerable to internal attacks due to its routing structure and high scalability of its participants. Though existing intrusion detection systems (IDSs) act smartly to defend against attack strategies, adversaries also accordingly update their attacking plans intelligently so as to intervene in successful defending schemes. In our work, we present a novel indirect internal stealthy attack on a tree-based multicast routing protocol. Such an indirect stealthy attack intelligently makes neighbor nodes drop their routing-layer unicast control packets instead of processing or forwarding them. The adversary targets the collision avoidance mechanism of the Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol to indirectly affect the routing layer process. Simulation results show the success of this attacking strategy over the existing "stealthy attack in wireless ad hoc networks: detection and countermeasure (SADEC)" detection system. We design a cross-layer automata-based stealthy attack on multicast routing protocols (SAMRP) attacker detection system to identify and isolate the proposed attacker. NS-2 simulation and analytical results show the efficient performance, against an indirect internal stealthy attack, of SAMRP over the existing SADEC and BLM attacker detection systems.

  • We present a new algorithm to minimize channel contention while sending multiple messages from multiple source to overlapped destination set on Multistage Interconnection Network (MIN) which supports wormhole routed turnaround routing. The multicast tree of the U-MIN(Unicast MIN) algorithm is useful in performing messages from one source to multiple destination but gives rise to a serious channel connection in performing multiple multicast because it has been designed for only single multicast. For multiple multicast communication on MIN, we address how to implement multiple multicast services efficiently. And a SPU-MIN(Source Partitioned Unicast MIN) algorithm is proposed and shown to be superior than the U-MIN algorithm for multiple multicast. The turnaround routing algorithm based on wormhole routing technique is employed as a message sending method.

  • The development of multicast communication services in the Internet is expected to lead a stable packet transfer even though On-Line Games generate heavy traffic. The Core Based Tree scheme among many multicast protocols is the most popular and suggested recently. However, CBT exhibits two major deficiencies traffic concentration or poor core placement problem. Thus, measuring the bottleneck link bandwidth along a path is important to understand the performance of multicast. We propose a method in which the core router's state is classified into SS(Steady State), NS(Normal State) and BS(Bottleneck State) according to the estimated link speed rate, and also the changeover of multicast routing scheme for traffic overload. In addition, we introduce Anycast routing tree, an efficient architecture for constructing shard multicast trees.

  • In this paper, we propose a multicast routing protocol for the seamless delivery of multicast data to mobile hosts through the optimal route in IPv6-Based mobile networks. The proposed multicast routing protocol reduces the tree reconstruction overhead by limiting the tunneling length according to the mobility of mobile hosts. In this way, our protocol satisfies the bound of the end-to-end delay and supports the seamless handoff. Analytical and simulation results show that the proposed protocol has better performance in terms of the tree reconstruction, tunneling service and multicast packet loss than the previous protocols does.

  • This paper describes Internet multicast routing protocols over MPLS (Multiprotocol Label Switching) networks. Internet multicast routing protocols are divided into 3 categories in terms of tree types and tree characteristics: a shortest path tree, a shared tree and hybrid tree types. MPLS should support various multicast mechanisms because of extremely different IP multicast architectures, such as uni-/bi-directional link, Flooding/prune tree maintenance mechanism, the existence of different tree types with the same group, etc. There are so many problems over MPLS multicast that the solutions can't be easily figured out. In this paper, we make a few assumptions on which the solutions of IP multicast routing protocols over MPLS networks are given. A broadcasting label is defined for the shortest path tree types. Cell interleaving problems of the shared tree types is solved by using block-based transmission mechanism. Finally, the existing hybrid-type multicast routing protocol is reasonably modified to support MPLS multicast.
