  • In this paper, we describe study on the development or multi-path ultrasonic gas flowmeter using a transit time method. This system includes 5 pairs of ultrasonic transducers. ultrasonic signal processing unit using switch matrix method, computation algorithm of gas flow rate, spool piece type multi-path pipe unit. We have developed enhanced type of main ultrasonic signal processing unit using switch matrix method fer multi-path ultrasonic gas flowmeter. Also, we have developed the new transmitting & receiving method of ultrasonic waves and the new signal processing algorithm for the computation of ultrasonic transit time from received ultrasonic waves. In this study, we have designed more compact signal processing unit compared with the conventional hardware system of multi-path ultrasonic gas flowmeter. We have confirmed its reliability for multi-path ultrasonic gas flowmeter through the laboratory test using calibration system. In the future. we will perform the field test for the developed system in the POSCO gas line.

  • Five-path ultrasonic flowmeters (200 and 300 mm diameters) were tested to obtain it's characteristics in a water flow standard system. A five-path ultrasonic flowmeter was installed after various pipe fittings (elbow, valve, tee) or a pump. The distance between flow disturbance source and a flowmeter was main experimental parameter. Without a flow conditioner, a five-path ultrasonic flowmeter shows good characteristics as the distance between flow disturbance source and a flowmeter is longer than 10 diameter of a flowmeter.

  • As the fastest growing flowmeter technology, multi-path ultrasonic flow-meters are gaining wider range in petroleum industry for liquid hydrocarbon custody transfer measurement. This paper describes the mult-path ultrasonic flowmeter, URO-Ex1000 the requirements necessary to prove and test in Korea & China. URO-Ex1000 haver a good results with accuracy range, but a little exceed with repeatability.

  • A five path ultrasonic and/or magnetic flowmeter were installed after valve. Five path ultrasonic flowmeter were tested to obtain it's performance in a water flow standard system and magnetic flowmeter. It's varied with straight pipe length(nD), install direction and valve position. All the results are summerized. The multi-path flowmeters(MUF) showed up to $\pm0.5{\%}$ at a 2, 4, 8, 15D spacing : the MUF was significantly better than magnetic flowmeter at disturbed flow conditions.

  • Multi-path ultrasonic flowrate measuring technology is being received much attentions from a variety of industrial fields to exactly measure the flowmeter. Multi-path ultrasonic flowmeter has much advantage since it has no moving parts and not occurred pressure loss. It offers good accuracy, repeatability, linearity and Tum-down ratio can measure over 1:50. The present study investigates flowrate integration errors using weighting factors. A theoretical flow model uses power law to describe a fully developed velocity profiles and wall roughness changes. The methods of weighting factor simulate three configurations of measuring location of gaussian, chebyshev and tailor method. The obtained results show that many chord arrangements are not affected for wall roughness changes and can measure accurate flowrate.

The present study investigates flowrate integration errors using weighting factors. A theoretical flow model uses power law to describe a fully developed velocity profiles and wall roughness is changed. Gaussian, Chebyshev, and Tailor methods are used to integrate line-average velocities. The obtained results show that Chebyshev method in 2, 4-path arrangement and Gaussian method in 3, 5-path arrangement are not affected for wall roughness changes.

  • An experimental investigation has been carried out in order to evaluate characteristics of wetted-type multi-path ultrasonic flowmeters. The multi-path ultrasonic flowmeters were installed at various entrance and exit locations for several cases of pipe fitting(straight, $90^{\circ}$ double elbow) and valve(gate valve, butterfly valve). We measured the flow-rate at each location. The measurement data of test flowmeter were compared with the measured data of reference flowmeter. The uncertainties of reference flowmeter and test flowmeter are 0.3 %, 0.4 %, respectively. The results demonstrate the effects of flowmeter location as well as the measurement errors in flow rate. The distance between the flow disturbance factor and a flowmeter was an important element of the test.

  • Multi-path ultrasonic Sow measurement system uncertainty is determined by assigning an expected error of each component of flow measurement and then defining the total flow measurement uncertainty as square root of the sum of squared values of the individual error. Sources of uncertainty for flow measurement are geometry, transit time and velocity profile integration uncertainty. A theoretical uncertainty model for multi-path ultrasonic transit time flowmeter configured with parallel 5 chords, is derived from and calculated by dry calibration method.

  • Generally, the system of calculation for the multi-path ultrasonic flow meters can be divided into two methods by how to get the mean velocity, namely, weighting and direct method. Weighting-method derive the mean velocity through modeling in theoretical velocity profile. Direct-method derive the mean velocity though actual flow distribution. The system of calculation varies with maker's transducer configuration and integration method. Each system has merits and demerits. This paper describes the system of integration that calculates line velocity over cross-section of the circular pipe. Flow rate mr discussed in this paper is a difference between theoretical flow rate and integrated flow rate according to values of Reynolds number in symmetric flow field or theoretical flow rate and integrated flow rate according to rotated model in asymmetric flow field.
