NUMERICAL ANALYSIS OF FLOW AROUND RECTANGULAR CYLINDERS WITH VARIOUS SIDE RATIOS

  • Three-dimensional numerical analysis of the flow around rectangular cylinders with various side ratios, D/H, from 0.2 to 2.0, was carried out for Reynolds number of 10³ by using a multi-directional finite difference method on a regular-arranged multi-grid. The predicted results are in good agreement with the experimental data. It is found that fluid dynamic characteristics of rectangular cylinders alternate between the high-pressure mode and the low-pressure mode of the base pressure for D/H=0.2-0.6. We show that this phenomenon is induced by the change of the flow pattern around rectangular cylinders.

  • This paper presents a simulation study on the description of the motion and the control of an active catheter actuator with multi-link structure actuated by Shape Memory Alloy(SMA). The model of an active catheter adopted in this paper has 3 links, and the individual links are composed of 3 micro coils of SMA for the omni-directional motion. In order to analyze the motions of multi-link structure, 3-dimensional kinematics description is presented. Also, the motion control of the end point of an active catheter using simple Neural Network is shown based on GUI(Graphic User Interface) system.

  • 최근에 로봇에서 다축 모션 제어를 위한 노력이 계속되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 로봇에서 다축 모션 제어를 쉽게 할 수 있는 AC 서보 드라이버를 구현 기법을 제안한다. 제안한 방법은 먼저 상위의 제어기 단과 드라이버단 사이의 통신을 위해 WDM 방식을 적용한 싱글 광 코어 기반의 양방향 광 EtherCAT 통신 기술을 적용하여 구현한다.

  • In this study, multi-level hi-direction pile load tests for drilled shaft pile socketed into the gravel were performed. The lower and upper hi-direction load test assemblies were located on tip of pile and 15m above the tip of pile. Based on the results of pile load test, it was analyzed bearing capacity of gravel, skin firction of upper soils and skin friction of lower soils. It was confirmed that drilled shaft socketed into the gravel had enough bearing capacity.

  • Numerical analysis has been conducted to simulate pedestrian flow in the model of two-storied subway station. Because almost all the subway stations are two or three storied structure, simulations are conducted for the passengers those who get off the train and pass the wicket. Passenger flow analysis is very important factor to design the station and also to manage the operation of subway system. In the subway station, pedestrians move to the horizontal directions as well as vertical ones. Therefore, to consider the movement of pedestrians is necessary for the guarantee of safety and conveniency. As the up and down floors are connected with step, escalator and elevator, the entire movements in the multi-storied station should be simulated as like a 3-dimensional flow. Numerical schemes for the directional sweeping are developed to prevent the dependency on physical structure of station and to determine primary direction and secondary one. By using the developed program, we compared the simulation results of the effects of the location and size of exit and elapsed time.

움직임 방향 연관 및 예측치 적용 기반 적응적 고속 H.264 움직임 추정 알고리즘의 설계 (An Adaptive Fast Motion Estimation Based on Directional Correlation and Predictive Values in H.264)

  • This research presents an adaptive fast motion estimation (ME) computation on the stage of uneven multi-hexagon grid search (UMHGS) algorithm included in an unsymmetrical-cross multi-hexagon-grid search (UMHexagonS) in H.264 standard. The proposed adaptive method is based on statistical analysis and previously obtained motion vectors to reduce the computational complexity of ME. For this purpose, the algorithm is decomposed into three processes: skipping, terminating, and reducing search areas. Skipping and terminating are determined by the statistical analysis of the collected minimum SAD (sum of absolute difference) and the search area is constrained by the slope of previously obtained motion vectors. Simulation results show that 13%-23% of ME time can be reduced compared with UMHexagonS, while still maintaining a reasonable PSNR (peak signal-to-noise ratio) and average bitrates.

Multi-modality image fusion via generalized Riesz-wavelet transformation

  • To preserve the spatial consistency of low-level features, generalized Riesz-wavelet transform (GRWT) is adopted for fusing multi-modality images. The proposed method can capture the directional image structure arbitrarily by exploiting a suitable parameterization fusion model and additional structural information. Its fusion patterns are controlled by a heuristic fusion model based on image phase and coherence features. It can explore and keep the structural information efficiently and consistently. A performance analysis of the proposed method applied to real-world images demonstrates that it is competitive with the state-of-art fusion methods, especially in combining structural information.

Modeling of Anisotropic Creep Behavior of Coated Textile Membranes

  • The present study aims at characterizing and modeling the anisotropic creep behavior of coated textile membrane, a class of flexible textile composites that are used for moderate span enclosures (roofs and air-halls). The objective is to develop a creep model for predicting the lifetime of coated textile membrane. Uniaxial creep tests were conducted on three off-axis coupon specimens to obtain the directional creep compliance. A potential with three parameters is shown to be adequate for modeling the anisotropic creep behavior of coated textile membrane. Furthermore, a possibility of predicting the creep deformation of coated textile membrane in a multi-axial stress state is discussed using the three-parameter potential.

단일 루프-단일 차량형 Multi-load AGV 시스템 설계에 관한 연구

  • 현재 무인 운반 차량(AGV: Automated Guide Vehicle)은 자동화된 생산 및 저장 시스템에서 시스템간의 원활한 전달 및 회수를 위한 도구로 중요한 역할을 하고 있다. 하지만 시스템의 규모가 커짐에 따라 기존의 AGV 시스템의 운영 및 통제에 많은 어려움이 발생하게 되었고, 새로운 형태의 AGV 시스템의 설계를 통해 운영의 어려움을 해결하기 위한 연구들이 진행되고 있다. Tandem AGV 시스템, Divided AGV 시스템, SBSL(Segmented Bi-directional Single Loop) AGV 시스템 등이 대표적인 예이다. 이들 시스템들은 기존의 AGV 시스템과는 달리 전체 시스템을 몇 개의 지역으로 나누고, 각 지역에 한 대의 차량을 할당하는 방식으로 차량의 혼잡이나 충돌에 관한 운영의 어려움을 해결하려 하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 시스템들을 단일루프-단일차량형 AGV 시스템이라 정의하였다. 그리고 Multi-load AGV를 사용하는 단일루프-단일차량형 AGV 시스템을 설계하기 위한 방법론을 제시하고, 시뮬레이션을 통해 nit-load AGV를 사용하는 시스템과의 효율성을 비교, 분석하고자 한다.

Design and Implementation of a Multi Level Three-Phase Inverter with Less Switches and Low Output Voltage Distortion

  • This paper proposes and describes the design and operational principles of a three-phase three-level nine switch voltage source inverter. The proposed topology consists of three bi-directional switches inserted between the source and the full-bridge power switches of the classical three-phase inverter. As a result, a three-level output voltage waveform and a significant suppression of load harmonics contents are obtained at the inverter output. The harmonics content of the proposed multilevel inverter can be reduced by half compared with two-level inverters. A Fourier analysis of the output waveform is performed and the design is optimized to obtain the minimum total harmonic distortion. The full-bridge power switches of the classical three-phase inverter operate at the line frequency of 50Hz, while the auxiliary circuit switches operate at twice the line frequency. To validate the proposed topology, both simulation and analysis have been performed. In addition, a prototype has been designed, implemented and tested. Selected simulation and experimental results have been provided.
