  • A FORTRAN program was developed to determine the optimal locations of multiple recharge wells in an aquifer with different arrangements of pumping wells. The simulated annealing algorithm was used to find optimal locations of two recharge wells which satisfied three objective functions. The model results show that locating two injection wells inside the cluster of pumping wells is efficient if the recovery rate only was taken into account. In contrast, placing injection wells to the side of the cluster is desirable if the simulation considers aggregate objective function. Therefore, installing an injection well on each side of the cluster seems to yield the maximum recovery rates for the existing pumping wells, and it yields similar increases in pumping rate for all wells in the cluster. The locations of recharge wells can be arranged in numerous configurations, because there are multiple near-optimal local minima or maxima. These results indicate that the simulated annealing can yield effective evaluations of the optimal locations of multiple recharge wells. In addition, the suggested aggregate objective function can be utilized as an appropriate multi-objective optimization.

  • The self-employment can provide work time flexibility. Work time flexibility would be a critical factor for married females' labor supply considering allocation of their time to market work and household work. This study used the 1998 and 2000 Korea Labor and Income Panel Survey for the empirical analyses. Applying the bivariate probit model with partial observability, this study analyzed factors related to the choice of participation in labor market and choice of self-employment. Also, this study examined the effects of marriage and the presence of younger children on changes in decisions related to labor supply using the multinomial logit model: exit from the labor market, increasing and decreasing work hours. The presence of the younger children showed a significantly negative effect on the participation in labor market while positive, but insignificant, effect on self-employment. Compared with females working for others, self-employers without employees and unpaid family workers are less likely to exit labor market rather than increasing work hours. The self-employment would be a good alternative to evade females' career interruption and therefore to enhance the potential human resources.

  • This study was conducted to evaluate effects of dietary multi-carbohydrases (MCS) in a lactating sow diet on productive performance and immune responses of sows and their piglets. A total of 12 sows (218.37 ± 5.5 kg BW; 2 parity) were randomly assigned to 2 dietary treatments: a diet based on corn-soybean meal (CON) and CON with 0.01% MCS. The MCS contained xylanase (2,700 units/g), β-glucanase (700 units/g), and cellulase (800 units/g). Sows were fed the dietary treatments for 28 days (weaning) after farrowing. Blood samples were collected from sows on d 0, 3, and 7 after farrowing and randomly selected 2 nursing piglets in each sow on d 3, 7, and 14 after birth. Measurements were productive performance of sows, frequency of diarrhea of piglets, and immune responses of sows and their piglets. Sows fed MCS had lower (p < 0.05) their body weight change than those fed CON. Piglets from sows fed MCS had higher (p < 0.05) average weight gain and body weight at weaning day and lower (p < 0.10) frequency of diarrhea than those from sows fed CON. Sows fed MCS had lower number of white blood cells (WBC) on d 3 (p < 0.05) and TGF-β1 on d 7 (p < 0.10) during lactation than those fed CON. Similarly, piglets from sows fed MCS had also lower (p < 0.05) number of WBC on d 3 and d 7 and TGF-β1 and C-reactive protein on d 7 during lactation than those from sows fed CON. In addition, piglets from sows fed MCS had higher (p < 0.10) immunoglobulin G and M on d 7 during lactation those from sows fed CON. In conclusion, addition of dietary MCS in the lactating sow diet based on corn and soybean meal improved productive performance of sows and their litters and modulated their immune responses.

  • Purpose - Prior researches have empirically focused on the effect of management consulting quality and consultant capability on entrepreneurial firms' performance. This study, however, focused on investigating the moderating role of absorptive capacity and resource capability between management consulting and entrepreneurial firms' performance. So, this study investigated the relationship among consulting quality, consultant capability, absorptive capacity, resource capability, and entrepreneurial firms' performance from the resource based view (RBV). Especially, this study focused on the mediating role of absorptive and resource capability in relational structure of entrepreneurial firms' dimensions. Research design, data, and methodology - In this study, research hypotheses and model are established by the prior researches from the fields of strategic management and entrepreneurial behavior. Concretely, H1~H4 are the relationship between consulting (consulting quality, consultant capability) and innovation (absorptive capacity, resource capability); H5 is the relationship between absorptive capacity and resource capability; and H6~H7 are the relationship between innovation (absorptive capacity, resource capability) and management performance. The data was collected 207 copies from entrepreneurial firms in South Korea. These firms were established in January 2014 and maintained by November 2015 in high-tech industry. The questionnaire was consisted of five dimensions; consulting quality, consultant capability, absorptive capacity, resource capability, and management performance. Each dimension measured multi items on a 5-point Likert scale. The hypotheses and research model are analyzed using structural equation modeling (SEM) with AMOS 22. Results - The results of this study are as follows. 1) Consulting quality significantly influenced on the absorptive capacity of entrepreneurial firms. 2) But, consultant capability did not influence on the absorptive capacity of entrepreneurial firms. 3) Consulting quality and consultant capability significantly influenced on the resource capability of entrepreneurial firms. 4) Absorptive capacity significantly influenced on the resource capability of entrepreneurial firms; 5) Absorptive capacity did not significantly influence on the management performance of entrepreneurial firms. 6) Resource capability, however, significantly influenced on the management performance of entrepreneurial firms. By these results, absorptive capacity of entrepreneurial firms had a mediating role partly among consulting quality, consultant capability, and management capability. The resource capability of entrepreneurial firms had a mediating role among consulting quality, consultant capability, and management capability, perfectly. Conclusions - According to this study, the high level of consulting quality and consultant capability may enforce the resource capability of entrepreneurial firms. It means, practically, that external knowledge is a driver for innovation, and then the innovation effects on the management performance of entrepreneurial firms. So, at the initial stage, the management consulting programs are very important to entrepreneurial firms and should be conceived as an essential element. This study may contribute to the advancement of academic in field of new start business, small business, or venture business based on resources, especially the role of absorptive capacity and resource capability between consulting programs and management performance. • Human resources are one of the most essential elements of an organization. In particular, the more closed a group is, the higher the value each member has. Previous studies have focused on personal attributes of individual, such as medical history, and have depended upon self-diagnosis to manage structures. However, this method has weak points, such as the timeconsuming process required, the potential for concealment, and non-disclosure of participants' mental states, as this method depends on self-diagnosis through extensive questionnaires or interviews, which is solved in an interactive way. It also suffers from another problem in that relations among people are difficult to express. In this paper, we propose a multi-faced diagnosis model based on social network analysis which overcomes former weaknesses. Our approach has the following steps : First, we reveal the states of those in a social network through 9 questions. Next, we diagnose the social network to find out specific individuals such as victims or leaders using the proposed algorithm. Experimental results demonstrated our model achieved 0.62 precision rate and identified specific people who are not revealed by the existing methods.

  • This study quantitatively analyzes the effects of emission inventory choices on the simulated particulate matter (PM) concentrations and the domestic/foreign contributions in the Seoul Metropolitan Area (SMA) with an air quality forecasting system. The forecasting system is composed of Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF)-Sparse Matrix Operator Kernel Emissions (SMOKE)-Community Multi-Scale Air Quality (CMAQ). Different domestic and foreign emission inventories were selectively adopted to set up four sets of emissions inputs for air quality simulations in this study. All modeling cases showed that model performance statistics satisfied the criteria levels (correlation coefficient >0.7, fractional error <50%) suggested by previous studies. Notwithstanding the apparently good model performance of total PM concentrations by all emission cases, annual average concentrations of simulated total PM concentrations varied up to $20{\mu}g/m^3$ (160%) depending on the combination of emission inventories. In detail, the difference in simulated annual average concentrations of the primary PM coarse (PMC) was up to $25.2{\mu}g/m^3$ (6.5 times) compared with other cases. Furthermore, model performance analyses on PM species showed that the difference in the simulated primary PMC led to gross model overestimation in general, which indicates that the primary PMC emissions need to be improved. The contribution analysis using model direct outputs indicated that the domestic contributions to the annual average PM concentrations in the SMA vary from 44% to 67%. To account for the uncertainty of the simulated concentration, the contribution correction factor method proposed by Bae et al. (2017) was applied, which resulted in converged contributions(from 48% to 57%). We believe this study shows that it is necessary to improve the simulated concentrations of PM components in order to enhance the accuracy of the forecasting model. It is deemed that these improvements will provide more accurate contribution results.

  • This study evaluated the effect of ultrasonic irradiation on reducing membrane fouling for the treatment of chemically treated leachate and biologically treated leachate. The experiments on improvement of membrane flux according to the membrane types(MF and UF) and membrane materials were performed with changing frequency(40 kHz and 120 kHz) and intensity(200 W and 400 W) of ultrasound in ultrasonic membrane separation apparatus which ultrasound can be periodically irradiated. Additionally, the effect of dual frequency ultrasound which 40 kHz md 120 kHz are irradiated simultaneously was evaluated. The improvement of membrane flux by periodical ultrasound irradiation was higher in microfiltration(MF) membrane than in ultrafiltration(UF) membrane. It was sustained more in the MF membrane of polyvinylidene fluoride(PVDF) than in that of polysulfon(PS). Ultrasonic improvement of membrane flux was different depending on the characteristics of target wastewater. It was sustainably maintained without reclogging using dual frequency ultrasound although the improvement of membrane flux was lower.

  • Geographic features are reflected in satellite images, which contain characteristic elements. Information on changes can be obtained through a comparison of images taken at different times. If multi-temporal images can be classified through the use of an unsupervised method, this is likely to improve the accuracy of image classification and contribute to various applications. A rule-based image classification algorithm for automatic processing without human involvement has been developed, but it must be verified that its results are not affected by imperfect elements. In this study, Landsat images of Jeju Island were used to carry out a rule-based image classification. The application results were examined for complex cases, including the presence of clouds in the images, different photographed times, and the type of target area, such as city, mountain, or field. The presence of clouds did not affect calculations, and appropriate classification rules were applied, depending on the different photographed times. The expansion of the urban areas of Jeju and the increase of facilities such as vinyl greenhouses in Seoguipo were identified. Furthermore, space information changes and accurate classifications for Jeju Island were obtained. With the goal of performing high-quality unsupervised classifications, measures to generalize and improve the methods employed were searched for. The findings of this study could be used in time-series analyses of images for various applications, including urban development and environmental change monitoring.
