Objective : The main idea of this article is to investigate the specialization of Chinese traditional medicine. The ancient shaman played a bridge role between human beings and supernatural things like ghosts. Even though he didn't have the super power, the ancients believed that he could take care of all kinds of illness. Therefore, it can be said that the medicine of Zhou Dynasty was still under the shamanism although it had already started to be specialized and professionalized. And it was the important role of the ancient shaman of that period that gave patients the shamanistic treatment on the ground of the specialized medical knowledge, which was commonly activated during that time. Method : This article is going to look into the detailed aspects of the specialization of Chinese traditional medicine through the some kinds of written attestations of Zhou Dynasty. Result : The medical knowledge of that time stayed in the early stage, so it was simple and raw. Also it had scientific and unscientific characters in itself at the same time. That's why it could be included in the shamanism; the details can be offered through another article of mine entitled A Research of Shamanistic Medical Activities on Written Attestations in the Zhou Dynasty(兩周時期的醫療巫術), which is being written now. Conclusion : From beginning of the Eastern Zhou period, the medicine gradually got to be specialized. And then the specialized medical treatment and shamanistic medical activities began to be divided as the different two occupations. Searching for various written attestations of that period, we can see lots of records about the specialized medicine treatment such as acupuncture and moxibustion and the medical substances.

In this study, a hybrid multi-cup electric cupping system (HMECS) was proposed, based on the ancient cupping method. HMECS consisted of several cups that could be used simultaneously to treat different areas of the patient's body. Each cup was equipped with its own pump and pressure-monitoring system. Moreover, the vacuum pressure of the cups was controlled using fuzzy logic. Through automated control of the vacuum pressure, long-term relief of muscle tightness was achieved. To develop a scientific foundation for this alternative treatment, we compared the VAS(Visual Analog Scale) and ODI(Oswestry Disability Index) scores from conventional basic cupping to the VAS and ODI scores for our proposed HMECS. The improvement rate in the VAS and ODI scores using HMECS after three treatments was higher than that achieved by basic cupping. These results, combined with the convenience offered by enhanced IT capabilities, should increase the popularity of this device among an aging society, and facilitate the opportunity to further explore the potential of Oriental medical practices.

Objective : This is clinical report about the Wei syndrome(?證)-patient diagnosed as Guillian-Barre syndrome. Guillain-Barre syndrome(GBS), what is called acute inflammatory polyneuritis, is a disorder in which the body's immune system attacks parts of peripheral nervous system. GBS is subclassified into acute inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy(AIDP), acute motor or motor-sensory axonal neuropathy(AMAN, AMSAN), and the other variants. The cause and mechanism of this syndrome are unknown yet. The typical Guillain-Barre syndrome could be diagnosed by the patient's syndroms and physical exams as the rapid onset of weakness, paralysis and loss of reflexes. The analysis of CSF and electrical test of nerve and muscle function can be performed to confirm the diagnosis. Most of the cases usually occur shortly after a viral infection. Method & Result : This is the clinical report about the one patient daignosed as Guillain-Barre syndrome. The patient, 9-year-old girl had the hemiparesis after upper respiratory infection. We characterized her as Wei syndrom(?證). The patient was treated by acupunture, indirect moxibustion, herb medication(通竅湯 加味方, 四物湯合檳蘇散 加味方) and had significant improvement in the Wei syndrome(?證). Conclusion : We report that we had good effects of oriental medical treatment on Guillain-Barre syndrome.
Objectives : This study was executed in order to examine relationship between Sasang constitution and serum lipids in CVA patients. Method and Results : This study was done with 104 cases of stroke patients who admitted to department of the internal medicine Wonkwang university oriental hospital from September in 2004 to August in 2005. A study on the relationship among serum lipids : In T-cholesterol and triglyceride, T-cholesterol and HDL-cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol and HDL-cholesterol. T-cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol, they had positive correlation each other. Between triglyceride and HDL-cholesterol, they had negative correlation each other. Distribution of serum lipids which it follows in stroke type : T-cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol average of cerebral hemorrhage is higher than cerebral infarction. Distribution of serum lipids which it follows in Sasang constitution : T-cholesterol, triglyceride and LDL-cholesterol average of Taeyumin was higher than different types of Sasang constitution But it didn't have no statistically consideration Conclusions : The relationship between Sasang constitution and Serum lipids was not proven.
Objective: The ECG which used for this paper, is analysis result from alogrisms of arrythmia, and we have studied that how we could certain Cold(寒)type or Heat(熱) type and that Deficiency(虛) type or Excess(實)type of organs from various special diseases, and we obtained like these results. Method & Conclusion: 1. we depend on our examination about Pulse(脈) because we can't discriminate arrythmia using ECG analysis instruments. 2. We obtained that Cold(寒) type diseases had wave that prolonged above normal baseline and ST wave which had downward aptitude. 3. We obtained that Heat(熱) type diseases had the fibrillation which had shortend wave that compare to normal and had downward aptitude or negative aptitude. 4. We obtained that Respiratory system (肺) diseases had wave that is within normal or is short of normal range and had much fluctuation in potential difference or trans on P wave. 5. The character of EKG which presented about diseases of gastric systems is prolonged above narmal range of wave, and the ECG had represented mixed wave with Heat(熱) type when accompany inflammatory in gastric system. 6. The wave of Blood Stasis(瘀血) type had upward aptitude of QRS wave, and the wave of anemia or blood loss type(少血) had downward aptitude of QRS wave, the wave which had both Cold(寒)) and Heat (熱) represented mixed waves. 7. The Knotted Pulse(結脈) and Intermittent Pulse(代脈)is corresponded with sinus brady cardia, and the Swift Pulsle(疾脈) is corresponded with fibrillation. 8. We pay attention to the relations of formations about pressures pulse from formations of EMD( electromechanical dissociation ). Result : From these results, we will have to study about ECG which using in tests of change of Parkinsons disease.
Objectives: Anaphylactic shock can be fatal to people who become hypersensitive when bee venom pharmacopuncture (BVP) is used. Thus, sweet bee venom (SBV) was developed to reduce these allergic responses. SBV is almost pure melittin, and SBV has been reported to have fewer allergic responses than BVP. BVP has been administered only into acupoints or intramuscularly, but we thought that intravenous injection might be possible if SBV were shown to be a safe medium. The aim of this study is to evaluate the intravenous injection toxicity of SBV through a single-dose test in Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats. Methods: Male and female 6-week-old SD rats were injected intravenously with SBV (high dosage: 1.0 mL/animal; medium dosage: 0.5 mL/animal; low dosage: 0.1 mL/animal). Normal saline was injected into the control group in a similar method. We conducted clinical observations, body weight measurements, and hematology, biochemistry, and histological observations. Results: No death was observed in any of the experimental groups. Hyperemia was observed in the high and the medium dosage groups on the injection day, but from next day, no general symptoms were observed in any of the experimental groups. No significant changes due to intravenous SBV injection were observed in the weights, in the hematology, biochemistry, and histological observations, and in the local tolerance tests. Conclusion: The results of this study confirm that the lethal dose of SBV is over 1.0 mL/animal in SD rats and that the intravenous injection of SBV is safe in SD rats.

Objectives : The aim of the present study is to observe effects of acupuncture related with the nerve system, Inferior mesenteric nerve activity(IMNA) was examined on BL60 acupuncture closely connected with the bladder and HT8 with little tied. Materials and methods : Acupunctures were performed during 100 seconds after stabilization. IMNA was measured by micromanipulator, preamplifier, mean arterial pressure(MAP) and heart rate were observed by blood pressure transducer, 4-channel transducer amplifier in anesthetized rat. Results : On BL60 acupuncture, the heart rate was not significantly decreased but IMNA, MAP were significantly decreased and Maximum peak of IMNA was increased during inserted acupuncture, decreased after ejected acupuncture respectively. On HT8 acupuncture, IMNA was decreased during acupuncture than before acupuncture but the others did not showed signigicant difference. Conclusions : Our results demonstrated a meridian interaction between BL60 acupoint in the bladder channel and Inferior mesenteric sympathetic nerve related to the bladder. This fact suggest that BL60 acupuncture have effect on the bladder through the nerve system. Meanwhile, IMNA was decreased during HT8 acupuncture. This result is supposed HT8 to have not meridian function but acupoint function by another mechanism. It needs to be closely examined other meridians and nerve by the optimal approaching method.

Objectives The purpose of this review was to analyze the research trends in clinical research related to pelvic malposition published in Korean medicine journals. Methods We searched articles in Korean databases (OASIS, NDSL, RISS, and KTKP), and sorted the articles by publishing date, pelvic malposition type, field of study, and measurement index. Results 1. 25 original articles and 9 case report articles were reviewed. 2. In recent years, this topic has been studied more frequently, with an increasing number of original articles published. 3. 16 articles analyzed pelvic malposition type. And half of the articles focused on ilium. 4. The original articles have figured out the correlation between pelvic malposition measurement indices and other measurement indices or diseases. 5. Treatment tools, such as chuna therapy, the mckenzie method, devices for correcting malposition, acupuncture were used in the case report articles. 6. 29 measurement indices, such as Ferguson's angle, Ilium shadow measurement, and Iliac height difference were used. Conclusions According to the literature, pelvic malposition is related to other diseases and measurement indices, and manual medicine on pelvic malposition can be effective. However, due to the lack of sufficient empirical evidence from medical articles to support this, further clinical research should be conducted.

Objectives : The purpose of this study was to research the antibiotic, antioxidant and whitening effects of Jwa Kum-Whan(JKW) and Soo Ryeon-Whan(SRW). Both Jwa Kum-Whan and Soo Ryeon-Whan are composed of Coptidis rhizoma and Evodiae fructus, but the ratios of the two species are different. JKW is composed of Coptidis rhizoma and Evodiae fructus by ratio of 6:1 and SRW's ratio is 1:1. Methods : Antibiotic activities of JKW and SRW's water extracts were studied by paper disc diffusion method. Four kinds of bacteria were applied in paper disc, and each extract was dropped, individually. The diameter of inhibition zone was measured. DPPH assay was used for studying free radical scavenging activity. DPPH is quantitatively decolorized from purple color by antioxidant material. Change of color was measured by spectrophotometer. Whitening activity was analyzed by tyrosinase inhibition assay. Tyrosinase is major enzyme for control process of making eumelanin. Optical Density was measured by spectrophotometer. Results : Candida albicans and Staphylococcus aureus's inhibition zone were made large available by Both prescriptions. Inhibition zone's diameter of JKW was preferable to SRW's. Radical scavenging activity was better at SRW, but JKW's activity was available, too. Tyrosinase inhibition activity was found out available only for JKW, not for SRW. Conclusions : JKW had antibiotic effects for Candida albicans, Staphylococcus aureus. And had antioxidant, whitening effects. SRW had antibiotic, antioxidant activities but not whitening effect.
Objectives : This study was purposed to investigate the antioxidative effects of Paeoniae radix aqua-acupuncture solution(PR) on culture liver cell system, lipid peroxidation and antioxidative enzyme activities in tert-butyl hydroperoxide(t-BHP) treatmented conditions. Methods : Cultured normal rat liver cell(Ac2F) were prepared and incubated with or without PR(at 2% volume in culture medium). After 16~18hr, cells placed in DMEM medium without serum, and then incubated with 1mM t-BHP for 2hr. Viable cells were detected by MTT assay, and the levels of lipid peroxide(LPO) were measured by TBA method. And catalase activity was measured as the decrease in hydrogen peroxide absorbance at 240nm on spectrophotometer using 30mM hydrogen peroxide. Superoxide dismutase(SOD) were assayed by recording the inhibition of nitro blue tetrazolium reduction with xanthine and xanthine oxidase. Glutathione peroxidase(GPX) activity was determined by the modified coupled assay developed by Paglia and Lawrence. The reaction was started by addition of 2.2mM hydrogen peroxide as substrate. The change in absorbance at 340nm was measured for 1min on spectrophotometer. Glutathione-S-transferase(GST) activity was assayed with CDNB as substrate and enzyme activity of GST towards the glutathione conjugation of CDNB. Results : Cell killing was significantly enhanced by addition of t-BHP compared to those of untreated group. PR pretreated cell resisted the toxic effects of t-BHP. LPO levels of t-BHP treatment group were significantly higher than other groups. This increased level was significandy reduced by PR pretreatment. The t-BHP treatment resulted in a decrease of catalase, GPX and GST activities. By contrast, PR pretreatment markedly increased compare to those of untreated groups. Conclusions : T-BHP which can produce intracellular free radical was used for inducer of the peroxidation of cellular lipids. PR protected the cell death induced by t-BHP and significantly increased cell viabiliry in the normal rat liver cell, and showed effective inhibition of lipid peroxidation, and elevations of catalase, GPX and GST activities. These results suggested that PR might play a protective role in lipid peroxidation by free radicals.
