  • A high peak power demand at substations will result under Moving Block Signalling (MBS) when a dense queue of trains begins to start from a complete stop at the same time in an electrified railway system. This may cause the power supply interruption and in turn affect the train service substantially. In a recent study, measures of Starting Time Delay (STD) and Acceleration Rate Limit (ARL) are the possible approaches to reduce the peak power demand on the supply system under MBS. Nevertheless, there is no well-defined relationship between the two measures and peak power demand reduction (PDR). In order to attain a lower peak demand at substations on different traffic conditions and system requirements, an expert system is one of the possible approaches to procure the appropriate use of peak demand reduction measures ...

  • In this paper, a robust correlation-based video tracking is proposed to track a moving object in correlated image sequences. A correlation-based video tracking algorithm seeks to align the incoming target image with the reference target block image, but has critical problems, so called a false-peak problem and a drift phenomenon (correlator walk-off. The false-peak problem is generally caused by highly correlated background pixels with similar intensity of a moving target and the drift phenomenon occurs when tracking errors accumulate from frame to frame because of the nature of the correlation process. At first, the false-peaks problem for the ordinary correlation-based video tracking is investigated using a simple mathematical analysis. And, we will suggest a robust selective-attention correlation measure with a gradient preprocessor combined by a drift removal compensator to overcome the walk-off problem. The drift compensator adaptively controls the template block size according to the target size of interest. The robustness of the proposed method for practical application is demonstrated by simulating two real-image sequences.

  • In this paper, a hagwon-bus boarding danger warning system based on computer vision is proposed to protect children from an accident causing injuries or death. Three zones are defined and different algorithms are applied to detect moving objects. In zone 1, a block-based entropy value is calculated using the absolute difference image generated by the absolute differential estimation between background image and incoming video frame. In zone 2, an effective and robust motion object tracking algorithm is performed based on the particle filter. Experimental results demonstrate the efficient and effectively of the algorithm for moving object inspection in each zone.

  • For moving image coding, the variable size of region coding based on local motion is more efficient than fixed size of region coding. It can be applied well to complex motions and is more stable for wide motions because images are segmented according to local motions. In this paper, new image coding method using the segmentation of motion vectors is proposed. First, motion vector field is smoothed by filtering and segmented by smoothed motion vectors. The region growing method is used for decomposition of regions, and merging of regions is decided by motion vector and prediction errors of the region. Edge of regions is excluded because of the correlation of image, and neighbor motion vectors are used evaluation of current block and construction of region. The results of computer simulation show the proposed method is superior than the existing methods in aspect of coding efficiency.

  • This paper presents a method that automatically recognizes products into model type, which it flows with the conveyor belt. The specific interlaced image are occurred by moving image when we use the NTSC based camera. It is impossible to process interlaced images, so a suitable post-processing is required. For the purpose of this processing, after it remove interlaced images using de-interlacing method, it leads rectangle region of object by thresholding. And then, after rectangle region is separated into several blocks through edge detection, we calculate pixel numbers per each block, re-classify using its average, and classify products into model type. Through experiments, we know that the proposed method represent high classification ratio.

  • This paper presents the motion detection algorithm that can run robustly about recusive motion. The existing motion detection algorithm that uses difference image is robustly in some degree brightness or noise, but it frequently causes false alarms to temporal clutter, at the repetitive motion within a certain area. We developed a motion detection algorithm using mean absoulte error(MAE) which calculates the set of Moving regions and performs block matching. The experimental results revealed that our approach is superior to existing methodologies to handling various temporal clutter.

  • Among the previous searching methods, there are the typical methods such as full search and three-step search, etc. Block motion estimation using exhaustive search is too computationally intensive. To apply in practice, recently proposed fast algorithms have been focused on reducing the computational complexity by limiting the number of searching points. According to the reduction of searching points, the quality performance is aggravated in those algorithms. In this paper, We present a fast and efficient search algorithm for block motion estimation that produces better quality performance and less computational time compared with a three-step search (TSS). Previously the proposed Two Step Search Algorithm (TWSS) by Fang-Hsuan Cheng and San-Nan sun is based on the ideas of dithering pattern for pixel decimation using a part of a block pixels for BMA (Block Matching Algorithm) and multi-candidate to compensate quality performance with several locations. This method has good quality performance at slow moving images, but has bad quality performance at fast moving images. To resolve this problem, the proposed algorithm in this paper considers spatial and temporal correlation using neighbor and previous blocks to improve quality performance. This performance uses neighbor motion vectors and previous motion vectors in addition, thus it needs more searching points. To compensate this weakness, the proposed algorithm uses statistical character of dithering matrix. The proposed algorithm is superior to TWSS in quality performance and has similar computational complexity

  • The method of Content-based Triangular Mesh Image representation in moving pictures makes better performance in prediction error ratio and visual efficiency than that of classical block matching. Specially if background and objects can be separated from image, the objects are designed by Irregular mesh. In this case this irregular mesh design has an advantage of increasing video coding efficiency. This paper presents the techniques of mesh generation, motion estimation using these mesh, uses image warping transform such as Affine transform for image reconstruction, and evaluates the content based mesh design through computer simulation.

  • For an complete image composition to be stitched on several mosaic images, tracing displacement of direction and distance between successive images are important parameters. The input image is modeled by using a general second order two-dimensional Taylor-series and then converting it to a $3{\times}3$ correlation block and storing the data. A moving factor and coordinate is calculated by comparing the continuous correlation blocks. The experimentation result has a success rate of 85% for moving path tracing as continuous images are moved to 10% of image central position.

  • Most real image sequences contain multiple moving objects or multiple motions. In this paper, we segmented the moving objects with optical flow. Motion estimation by this method can estimate and compress the image sequences better than other methods such as block matching method. And, especially, we can make new image sequences by synthesizing the segmented objects. But, it takes too much time for motion estimation. And, it is not easy for a hardware implementation.
