  • A robust control for robot manipulators actuated by induction motors using neural networks(NNs) is considered. The control is designed to compensate for nonlinear dynamics associated with the mechanical subsystem and the electrical subsystems only with the measurements of link position, link velocity and stator winding currents. Two-layer NNs are used to approximate unknown functions occurring from parameter variation during backstepping design process. Specially, through the use of nonlinear observers for rotor flux, observed backstepping controller is designed to achieve uniform ultimately bounded link position tracking of the given reference signal ...

  • Spent nuclear fuel is highly radioactive and requires remote operation due to radiation exposure. Motors which have been used in the highly radioactive environments are a DC type because of their easy implementation on control system. However there are some problems such as mechanical maintenance of brush and commutator, high cost, and heavy material control. AC servo motors are applied and tested on fuzzy and conventional control algorithms. Fuzzy logic controls of AC servo give adequate control accuracy and power for spent fuel handling in radioactive environments.

  • Computerization of ultrasonic scanner is considered to achieve more quantitative and reliable ultrasonic testing. Testech LS-24 ultrasonic scanner is modified, and step motors in this modified ultrasonic scanner are driven by multiprogrammer controlled by computer. Two step motors can be controlled independently and simultaniously. The performance of computerized ultrasonic scanner is examined entloying modified C scan for a flat bottom hole ultrasonic reference block.

  • This study presents the structure and the gate control algorithm of KAMOBOT (KAIST Mobile Robot). The mobile robot has a six-legged, cylindrical configuration, each leg of which is equiped with a wheel at the bottom. The robot can go up and down stairs, go over obstacles, move along curvilinear paths and rotate around it's geometric center. Such maneuverability can be achieved by using only three electric motors.

  • For the position control of BL-DC motors, 2.phi.-3.phi. conversion unit, hysteresis band device, and PWM pulse generation are required. By utilizing a single-chip processor INTEL 8097BH, we cover all required functions. As a result, no analogue device is employed in this control scheme, so that it makes BL-DC motor controller simple and flexible. Furthermore, the single-chip processor is utilized for the nonlinear coordinate transformation which is necessary for the linearization of the motor system.

  • High voltage motors are the core equipment of electric generation facilities and need to guarantee stable operation. Therefore, keeping healthy state is of importance by means of insulation diagnosis periodically. However, if the diagnosis went through in the different circumstances such as temperature, humidity, and impedance applied to the test equipment, the trend analysis have no significance. This paper presents the experimental results supporting the importance of keeping the same conditions under insulation diagnosis.

  • This paper gives various load profiles of power transformers and motors in apartment housing. The load profile of power transformer shows that it is peaked in winter by heating system, and the maximum value of load profiles in power transformer is ranged 25%∼35%, which shows it is operated on over-capacity. The maximum value of demand factor in water supply system is about 60% and this of wastewater treatment system is about 50%.

  • An ultrasonic linear motor was composed of a slider and a stator vibrator including piezoelectric material and elastic material. The ultrasonic linear motors mainly consist of an ultrasonic oscillator which generates elliptical oscillations. Elliptical oscillations are generated by synthesizing two degenerated modes. The design of a stator for an Ultrasonic linear motor was optimized with respect to vibration mode and direction of vibratory displacement by employing the finite element method. The motors were designed by varying the width of stator vibrator and the thickness, the length and the position of piezoceramics.
