  • Speed control without speed sensor is expected strongly to progress reliability, simplicity and cost performance of I.M and to expand its application part. This paper investigates a novel speed estimation method of I.M considering the secondary resistance identification based on the transientless torque control technique. Especially, this paper aimed at the identification of the secondary resistance simultaneously with speed estimation. For this, the secondary flux with some frequency is controlled independently on torque. The proposed speed estimation method is derived from a motor circuit equation theoretically and also it can be conducted easily by detecting primary motor currents and primary voltage commands at every sampling time. Some numerical simulations with the assumption of using a pulse width modulation(PWM) voltage source inverter and experimental results are performed to verify the proposed method.

  • A direct torque control(DTC) based sensorless speed control system which employs a new closed loop flux observer is proposed. The flux observer is an adaptive gain scheduling observer where motor speed is used as the scheduling variable. Adaptive nature comes from the fact that the estimates of stator resistance and speed are included as observer parameters. Simulation results show that the proposed flux observer gives better control and estimation results than conventional flux estimator specially in low speed region.

  • The purpose of power system design is, in a word, to provide a good quality of electric power. The design of reliable industrial and commercial power distribution system is important because of the high costs associated with power outage. Three major factors for realization of the purpose are: (1) To hold system frequency at or very close to a specified nominal value(e.g. 60Hz) by control of frequency-effective power. (2) To maintain the correct value of interchange power between power and local generators. (3) To hold system voltage at or very close to a specified nominal value by control of voltage-reactive power. Within the past decade, numbers of industrial and commercial facilities installed with local generation, large motors or both, are increasing. This means that system stability is of concern to a growing number of industrial plant electrical engineers and consultants.

  • In this paper, a new approach monitoring rotor vibrations in a squirrel-cage induction motor is proposed. The air-gap flux variation analysis was done using search coils inserted in stator slots when rotor vibration conditions occur. An accurate modelling and analysis of air-gap flux variation in the induction motor are developed using finite-element(FE) software packages, and measuring the flux are made using search coils. In the FE analysis, the three-phase squirrel-gage induction motor with 380 (V), 5 (HP), 4 Poles, 1,742 [rpm] ratings is used. The results of FE analysis can be useful for on-line vibration monitoring of the induction motors.

  • This paper deals with the comparison and analysis of brushless DC (BLDC) motor with radial and polar anisotropic plastic magnet. The open-circuit field distributions and back-emf for BLDC motor with polar plastic magnet are established analytically and the results are validated extensively by comparison with finite element (FE) analyses. On the basis of two dimensional (2-D) analytical solutions, this paper predicts open-circuit field characteristics according to design parameters and makes a comparison between BLDC motor with polar plastic magnet and it with radial plastic magnet in terms of required magnet volume and harmonic of air-gap flux density waveform.

  • In this paper, we proposes an adaptive flux observer to estimate initial values of rotor fluxes and unknown rotor resistance. The error system between the model of induction motor and a proposed observer is devided as a fast subsystem and a slow one by a singular perturbation system. The fast subsystem is exponentially convergent on a boundary-layer. And the overall error system is reduced to a quasi-steady-state system. The adaptive law for an unknown rotor resistance is designed to stabilize the approximate error system. As computer simulation results show, the proposed adaptive flux observer estimates fast initial values of rotor fluxes and unknown rotor resistance.

  • A robot manipulator is a nonlinear time varying MIMO system. Therefore, when a robot manipulator operates at high speeds, the performance of pursuing its trace becomes worse due to the increased nonlinearity of system. Several nonlinear control methods are introduced for solving this problem. But, these methods need a large amount of calculations, so it is necessary to use the controller equipped with a faster and more efficient processing ability. In this paper, we designed the Rhino XR-3 Robot Controller which controls five joints concurrently. To reduce the size of the controller and to control 6 dc-servo motors in real time, we use the TMS320c31, the high-speed digital signal processor.

  • This paper presents a mathod of reducing hunting size or steady state error occurred in the output signals via regulating the PID controllers gains. The PID controllers are widely used in industrial processes. Such processes have several inherent features like continuous operation, fixed set value, and difficulty in applyirty test signals. Thus, this paper suggests fuzzy rules of reducing hunting magnitude or steady state error using output signals only. Such an intelligent tuning technique utilizes both the experts, experience and control engineers' theortical background. For two kinds of systems such as temperature or DC motors speed control, we showed the validity of proposed method in this paper.

  • The relay protection engineers are sometimes faced with the difficulties in full protection of high-inertia drive motors during acceleration period. The problem results from lower permitted locked rotor time of the motor compared with motor starting time. Even though the various types of protection relay and other device (Speed switch, Distance relay) are used, the full protections against abnormal starting conditions may not be available. So, the development of a new speed-biased overcurrent relay is suggested in this paper. This paper also presents that speed-biased overcurrent relay can fully protect the high-inertia motor during abnormal starting condition by computer simulation.
