  • During normal machine operation, partial discharge(PD) measurements were performed with turbine generator analyzer(TGA) in imitation stator winding of high voltage motors. The motor was energized to 4.47kV, 6.67, respectively. Applied voltage to Imitation winding was used two voltage level, 4.47[kV] and 6.67[kV]. Motors having imitation stator winding were installed with 80pF capacitive couplers at the terminal box. Case of PD Pattern regarding applied voltage phase angel, the PD patterns were displayed two dimensional and three dimensional. TGA summarizes each plot with two quantities such as the normalized quantity number(NQN) and the peak PD magnitude(Qm). As the result, we could discrimidate using TGA the difference of internal and surface discharge for imitation stator winding. We have used the other technique, in order to feature extraction of faulty signals on stator winding, Daubechies Discrete wavelet transform and Harmonics analysis(FFT) about faulty signals.

  • A structural weight estimation methodology for the multicopter design process is presented. In general, a multicopter is composed of an airframe, motors, propellers, battery and so on. Among these, the weight of motors, propellers and battery can be obtained from the weight trends with respect to design parameters. However, the structural weight is hard to be estimated due to the various configurations and design concepts of multicopters. Moreover, the airframe weights of most commercial multicopter products are not provided. Thus, an accurate airframe weight model is required for the reliable mutlcopter design process. Firstly, the standard configuration of multicopters is defined. Then, we proposed the structural weight estimation method using the number and diameter of propellers determined from the initial step of sizing process. Finally, we validated our suggested method using the commerical products.

  • There are a lot of methods available in designing PID(Proportional-Integral-Derivative) and Lead/Lag controllers in the industrial field of technology because of their useful advantages such as simplicity and robustness. In an early stage of development process, a computational simulation approach is a very efficient tool for the designs of the controllers. Thus, in this paper we propose a cost-effective, and practically efficient. The PID and Lead/Lag controllers. To show the effectiveness of the proposed Lead/Lag controller, we compare and contrast of the simulation results of each controller with the Matlab simulator. Although we have only considered the DC motors for the controllers, but it could be extended in future developments to more complex plants. As a result, the proposed frameworks could be used to solve industrial problems such as a reduction in development cycle time and minimizing system errors.

  • This paper presents a new rotor position estimation method for brushless DC motors. It is clear that the estimation error of the rotor position provokes the phase shift angle misaligned between the phase current and the back-EMF waveforms, which causes torque ripple in brushless DC motor drives. Such an estimation error can be reduced with the help of the proposed neutral voltage-based estimation method that is structured in the form of a closed loop observer. A neutral voltage appearing during the normal mode of the inverter operation is found to be an observable and controllable measure, which can be dealt with for estimating an exact rotor position. This neutral voltage is obtained from the DC-link current, the switching logic, and the motor speed values. The proposed algorithm, which can be implemented easily by using a single DC-link current and the motor terminal voltage sensors, is verified by simulation and experiment results.

  • Achieving high-level technology in fields such as IT-related industry, semiconductors, mobile phones, LCD, automobile, shipbuilding, etc., Korea has become an international market leader in those fields. In results, there are the increasing numbers of technology leakage attempts in various manners. Recently, technology leakages are not limited to illegal industrial espionage, but also occur during usual corporate proceedings such as technology transfer, joint research and M&A. In fact, there was a technology leakage issue in the M&A between Ssangyong Motors of Korea and Shanghai Motors of China. Current M&A regulations of Korea are not independent laws, but are spread over various laws, such as commercial law, Capital Markets and the Financial Investment Services Act, Foreign Trade Act, etc. This paper focuses on whether the current Korean regulations regarding M&A are able to effectively restrict the leakage of major information of corporate during M&A and seeks the complements.

  • The movement of vesicles from the neuronal cell body to specific destinations requires molecular motors. The squid giant axon represents a powerful model for studies of the axonal transport mechanism because the axoplasm can readily be separated from the sheath by simple extrusion. In a previous study, vesicular movements in the axoplasm of the squid giant axon were inhibited by the kinesin antibody. In the present study, we cloned and sequenced the cDNAs for squid brain KIFs. Amplification of the conserved nucleotide sequences of the motor domain by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) using first-strand cDNAs of the squid optic lobe identified six new KIF proteins. Motif analysis of the motor domains revealed that the squid KIFs are homologous to the consensus sequences of the mouse KIFs. The phylogenetic tree generated by using the maximum parsimony (MP) method, the neighbor-joining (NJ) method, the minimum evolution (ME) method, and the maximum likelihood (ML) method showed that squid KIFs are closest to mouse KIFs. These data prove the phylogenetic relationships between squid KIFs and mouse ones.

  • This paper addresses the design and implementation of an Android application for real-time precise motion control. To provide stable real-time performance, we implemented the application in two parts: Android service in the form of a daemon process, which periodically transfers a set of position commands for all motors through a real-time fieldbus, and Android UI application, which generates and delivers the set of position commands to the Android service. To support such a real-time motion control application, we use multi-core partitioning, which partitions the processor cores into a real-time partition to be used by the real-time motion control service and a non-real-time partition to be used by the Android application, and set up a shared buffer between them for communication. Our experiments show that we can obtain a motion control period of 2 ms with 99% task activation jitters less than ${\pm}55{\mu}s$ for a configuration where each of the four threads controls two motors in a group.

  • We developed an integrated design system for a solid rocket motors. We can do a conceptual design of a solid rocket motor easily and quickly with this system. It consists of four modules, or, size design, structure design, grain design and performance analysis module. Size design module determines the lengths and diameters of some major parts, which results in fixing the whole size of a motor. Structure design module has many master models, which enables a designer can do a conceptual design of almost parts of motor structures. Grain design module can design a solid fuel according to the result of structure design. Finally performance analysis module verifies the proposed design with the output from grain design module.

A convergence R&D workshop was performed by Fashion design majors and Engineering majors for the study. As a result, 5 functional smart fashion prototypes were developed and the outline of each prototype are as follows. The $1^{st}$ prototype, 'Hidden Camera Detecting Coat' focused on gender-related crimes. The coat uses infrared lighting and LED technologies to provide a function to detect hidden cameras in suspicious public spaces such as toilets. The $2^{nd}$ prototype, 'Heating-massage Suit' targeted patients with musculoskeletal system difficulties. The suit uses heating and vibration technologies to provide a heating massage treatment for patients with ongoing difficulties in their daily lives. The $3^{rd}$ prototype is an air-bag jacket to prevent sexual molestation on public transportation. The jacket extends its volume through pressure sensing, air compressing, motors and 3D-printing technology to secure the wearer's personal preventive space between the user's body and others. The $4^{th}$ prototype is a town wear for people suffering from synesthesia. People with synesthesia inadvertently see colors when exposed to certain sounds. This town wear uses sound sensing, air compressing, motors and 3D-printing technology to provide sound prevention and a comfortable sound playing function. The $5^{th}$ prototype is a set of a vest and a gloves for visually impaired people. The vest and gloves uses DMS, voice playing, vibration technology to provide distance measuring and warning functions.

  • Torque tubes in High Temperature Superconducting (HTS) motor transfer torque from superconducting field winding rotor to the room temperature shaft. It should have minimum heat conduction property for minimizing the load on cryo-refrigerator. Generally, these torque tubes are made with stainless steel material because of high strength, very low outgassing and low thermal contraction properties at cryogenic temperatures and vacuum conditions. With recent developments in composite materials, these torque tubes could be made of composites such as Kevlar and S-Glass, which have the required properties like high strength and low thermal conductivity at cryogenic temperatures, but with a reduced weight. Development and testing of torque tubes made of these composites for HTS motor are taken up at Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), Hyderabad in collaboration with Central Institute of Plastics and Engineering Technology (CIPET), Chennai and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur. As these materials are subjected to vacuum, it is important to measure their outgassing rates under vacuum conditions before manufacturing prototype torque tubes. The present study focusses on the outgassing characteristics of Kevlar and S-Glass, using an Outgassing Measurement System (OMS), developed at IIT Kharagpur. The OMS facility works under vacuum environment, in which the test samples are exposed to vacuum conditions over a sufficient period of time. The outgassing measurements for the composite samples were obtained using pressure-rise technique. These studies are useful to quantify the outgassing rate of composite materials under vacuum conditions and to suggest them for manufacturing composite torque tubes used in HTS motors.
