  • A lot of rotating machinery are generally used in industrial field and the electrical machinery such as the motor and generator account for the most of the part. Generally motor and generator have electrical loss because of eddy current. So silicon steel sheets are used in order to reduce the electrical loss and furthermore laminated rotor is used for motor and generator to eliminate the electrical loss and heat generation. However, the more high speed, large scale and high precision of the system, the more important to estimate the critical speed. In this paper verifies the variation of the critical speeds in accordance with the variation of the pressing force of lamination plate for the rotor which is supported by ball bearing with the experimental data as well.

  • This paper presents motor speed and revolution angle detection method using a sinusoidal AC tacho-generator. The 2-phase or 3-phase output tacho-generator can be adopted, and its' output voltages must have sinusoidal waveforms. Because the detection algorithm is simple, the proosed method can be implemented with analog devices or microprocessor conveniently. And the proposed method has a very short detection delay time. Especially in the analog implementation, there is no delay time without the settling time of analog devices. With the experimental results, it is verified that the proposed method can acculately detect the instantaneous motor speed and revolution angle over the wide ranges.

  • This case study presents a practical method to reduce resonant vibration of generator-motor set. The generator is driven at 1800rpm by induction integral motor. The vibration is below alarm limits, but the dominant frequency of vibration is sub-synchronous and close to that of bearing fault signal in spite of new bearings. To find an mechanism of abnormal vibration, ODS and Modal analysis is carried out. The measured modal characteristics were compared with those of FE Analysis. The ODS mode at rated speed is consistent with system natural frequency mode that is excited by bearings. To reduce vibration level, the isolation mount at system base is changed with new rubber mount for lower natural frequency.

  • In this paper, a controller for a non-contact bearing-based motor-generator system is designed. The levitation control method is a digital PID control. The plant dynamics consisting of actuator and rigid rotor dynamics are described. And some experiments are conducted with each global control and local control concept. From the whirl test, the Motor-Generator System can be controlled within about ${\pm}10{\mu}m$ gap variation at the rotational speed of 600rpm and generate electric power of AC100V.

  • This paper describes development of hardware simulator for the PMSG(Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator) wind power system, which was designed using real wind data. The simulator consists of a realistic wind turbine model using anemometer, vector drive, induction motor. The turbine simulator generates torque and speed signals for a specific wind turbine with respect to given wind speed. This torque and speed signals are scaled down to fit the input of 3kW PMSG. The PMSG-side converter operates to track the maximum power point and the grid-side inverter controls the active and reactive power supplied to the grid. The operational feasibility was first verified by computer simulations with PSCAD/EMTDC. The feasibility of real system implementation was confirmed through experimental works with a hardware set-up.

  • A conventional motor in a crane has a taco generator to feed back the number of turns to a main controller. The taco generator is contacted to a motor shaft through the coupling. Errors in a crane have often occurred because the coupling has worn out while the motor is turning. In this paper, we design the device of the frequency to voltage transducer in a motor. The device is composed of a rotary encoder, a speed measurement using PIC16F84 controller, a display, and a direction-decision block. The rotation of a motor is recognized by the rotary encoder and microcontroller counts the number of turns of a motor. The emergency signal is generated if the frequency goes over or below the speed limit of a motor. And the device can acknowledge the rotation direction of the motor after 6。 rotation. The simulation results and the test for a implemented device have shown that the transducer of a frequency to a voltage can replace a taco generator in a crane.

  • This paper describe development of a hardware simulator for the DFIG wind power system, which was designed considering wind characteristic, blade characteristic, and blade inertia compensation. The simulator consists of three major parts, such as wind turbine model using induction motor, doubly-fed induction generator, converter-inverter set. and control system. The turbine simulator generates torque and speed signals for a specific wind turbine with respect to the given wind speed which is detected by Anemometer. This torque and speed signals are scaled down to fit the input of 3.5kW DFIG. The MSC operates to track the maximum power point, and the GSC controls the active and reactive power supplied to the grid. The operational feasibility was verified through computer simulations with PSCAD/EMTDC. And the implementation feasibility was confirmed through experimental works with a hardware set-up.

  • The dynamic performance analyses and tests for a 50kW turbo-generator (KIMM-TG50) were carried out. The operating concept of this machine is that it gets the initial driving force from the built-in motor-generator until it reaches its self-sustaining speed of 40,000 rpm, and then the driving mode is changed to self-operating mode by the combustor installed between the centrifugal compressor and the turbine. Due to winding mistake of motor-generator, the system could go only up to 22000 rpm by the motor so that high pressure air externally fed into the turbine was utilized to get the system to run up to 62,000 rpm thereafter. The vibration data collected during the tests revealed that the first bending critical speed is in near 5,600 rpm as predicted in the design stage of the rotor-bearing system, and that there were no other identifiable critical speeds up until 62,000 rpm due to high damping from the squeeze film damper-bearings supporting the rotor. This paper presented some of the experimental results along with dynamic performance predictions made in the design stage as a part of progress being made.
