Despite the abundance of research on alcoholic-beverage consumption in the food and beverage marketing literature, research directly assessing and comparing consumers' psychological motives for drinking different types of alcoholic beverages is relatively limited. There is also a paucity of research comparing drink-type specific consumption motivations in an Asian market. Paying attention to some recent new changes in the alcoholic-beverages market of South Korea, this study investigated South Korean young adult female consumers' alcoholic-beverage type-specific drinking motives. A self-administered online survey of 340 young adult female drinkers about their alcohol-consumption patterns, alcoholic-drink preferences, involvement with alcohol, and four types of drinking motives (coping, social, conformity, and enhancement motives) revealed differences in: (1) the association between the consumer's alcohol involvement level, alcohol consumption frequency/amount, and preferences for alcoholic beverages across different types of alcoholic drinks; (2) the underlying psychological motives for drinking different types of alcoholic beverages; (3) the association between consumption contexts and alcoholic drink types; and (4) the consumption patterns and drinking motives across different consumer groups that are segmented in terms of their most preferred type of alcoholic beverages. These findings point to the importance of investigating drink-type-specific consumption motivations in alcoholic-beverage consumption research. Limitations and implications for future research are also discussed.
Purpose: Previous studies show that perceived CSR motives have a significant impact on company evaluations. However, consumer responses to CSR motives vary depending on CSR motives. From this perspective, this study investigates the impact of CSR motives on consumers' responses in the context of food and beverage franchise companies using a scenario. Research design, data, and methodology: For achieving the purposes of the study, an example of a domestic food and beverage franchise company actively carrying out CSR activities was presented. Data was collected from 304 respondents aged 20 or older who were aware of CSR activities. The respondents answered the questionnaire after reading the scenario. The data was analyzed with SPSS 28.0 and SmartPLS 4.0 program. Result: Values-driven motive and strategic motive influence authenticity, while stakeholder-driven motive and egoistic motive did not influence authenticity. Values-driven motive influences on attitude, while stakeholder-driven motive, strategic motive and egoistic motive didn't. Lastly, authenticity influences attitude. Conclusions: Companies need to be aware that consumers may infer different motives for their CSR activities, and pay close attention to consumers' perceived motives from the planning stage of CSR activities. In particular, companies should focus on the values-driven motive and the strategic motive when planning CSR activities.

This experimental study aimed to investigate the determinants of fashion products donation intentions built on two consumer attributions: strategic and value-driven motives. While consumers may perceive that the underlying motivations of a firm's CSR initiatives are to sincerely help society, they may also believe that such initiatives are strategically motivated and that the firm only engages in CSR to improve its corporate image. Therefore, this study tested how extrinsic factors (consumer monetary and non-monetary- benefits for participating in a donation campaign) and intrinsic factors (i.e., altruistic attitudes) influenced perceived value- and strategic-driven motives, which in turn promote donation intentions. An analysis of 268 responses revealed that monetary benefits, such as offering discount coupons, increased consumers'perception of strategic motives, while non-monetary benefits, such as offering a ring and acertificate, enhanced their perception of value-driven motives. In addition, consumers who tended to have a positive altruistic attitude were more likely to perceive value-driven motives, and this orientation also directly increased donation intentions. These findings also confirmed that only value-driven motives promoted donation intentions. However, consumer benefits did not directly affect donation intentions. The findings of this study suggest valuable managerial implications as well as academic contributions.

This study investigated the influence of audience type (mother or close friend) age, and gender on children's goals and strategies for emotional regulation in angry and in sad situations. Hypothetical vignette methodology was used with 314 children in grades 5 and 7. In angry situations, all boys and all 5th grade children regulated anger more with instrumental motives while 7th grade girls showed more prosocial motives. Children showed more prosocial and rule oriented motives with peers and relational motives with mothers. In angry situations, children used aggression regulation strategies more toward peers and activity regulation strategies more toward mothers. Children's age and sex explained sadness regulation motives better than audience type with peers, but children used more activity regulation strategies with mothers in sad situations. When sad, fifth graders used more verbal and facial expression strategies than 7th graders while boys used more activity regulation strategies than girls.

This study was designed (1) to examine the results of previous qualitative research on clothing-wearing motives by quantitative approach, (2) to explore the concept of clothing utility, utility-reduction and discard, and (3) to investigate the impact of clothing-wearing motives on consumer attitudes and consuming-behaviors. Date were collected by questionnaire from 443 collegiate students between August and September of 2000, and 396 questionnaires were analyzed. 3 groups were identified on the basis of clothing-wearing motives and named by extroversion group, introversion group, and least clothing-congnizing group respectively. This supported the qualitative results in part, especially in the direction of motives. Clothing utility-reduction factors were identified as appearance demage, social-psychological damage, and abandonment-causing damage. The 3 groups were responded on utility-reduction differently, thus clothing-wearing motive variable was determined as useful in fashion marketing.
This study aimed to identify the effects of sports participation motives, the involvement in choosing sportswear, and the satisfaction with/perceived importance of sportswear functionality, on customers' repurchase intentions. A total of 185 survey questionnaires were analyzed after surveying 200 female undergraduates in their 20s. The research results are as follows. First, the participation motives for sports were categorized as follows. A factor analysis conducted on 13 questions yielded 4 factors. Factor 1 included consideration about socializing and pleasure, factor 2 privileged ostentation, factor 3 was concerned with enhancing health, and factor 4 was about maintaining appearance. Second, the various effects of different sports participation motives, of the satisfaction with functionality, and of the involvement in buying sportswear on customers' repurchase intentions were analyzed. The intention to repurchase sportswear was considered as a dependent variable, while the motives for participating in sports, the satisfaction with functionality, and the level of involvement were treated as independent variables. A multiple regression analysis using these variables showed that the satisfaction with functionality and involvement in choosing sportswear had a significant impact on the intention to repurchase sportswear. Third, looking at how different participation motives for sports affected the importance of sportswear functionality, the motives related to socializing and pleasure and ostentation, the sub-factors in sports participation motives, significantly increased the importance of comfort. Motives related to enhancing health and maintaining appearance, on the other hand, were found to affect the importance of sports performance. Fourth, a MANOVA was performed to examine the difference in the importance of functionality between those consumers highly involved in sportswear-buying and those less involved. Those with a high level of involvement were found to prioritize sports performance over comfort. Those with a low level of involvement were shown to place a greater emphasis on comfort.

The purpose of this study is to examine how social motivation, functional motivation, playful motivation, and psychological motivation affect SNS user satisfaction in order to find out what factors are important to Korean high school students in using SNS. As a result, playful motives, functional motives, and psychological motives except social motives have an effect on SNS user satisfaction, and this satisfaction has a positive effect on students' value formation. These results suggest that the reason why Korean high school students use SNS is that they need it and enjoy it, that is, they use SNS from a personal point of view, and are not related to social phenomena. However, social motives were found to have a positive effect on functional and playful motives. In other words, various social phenomena, which are social motives, provide an opportunity and theme for the use of SNS, and functional motives have positive effects on playful and psychological motives. In other words, the various functions provided by SNS have a positive effect on the selection and use of SNS.
