Purpose : This study aims to investigate social welfare and students' image of social workers and determine the relevance of these factors to the academic system, gender, and their motivations when selecting a major. Methods : For this study, social welfare students from two two-year colleges and two four-year universities were randomly selected, and 320 students from social welfare departments who understood and agreed to participate in the research took the survey. The data analysis of this study was conducted using SPSS 23.0. Results : The Social Welfare Department students' perception of a social worker's image was shown to be positive. In the social worker image based on academic background, the first grade was found to be more positive than the second, third, and fourth grades. The professional image was more positive than the traditional, social, and vocational images. The gender-based social worker image showed that females were more positive than males. Females were more positive for the professional image, and males were more positive for the traditional image. Regarding the image of social workers based on students' motivation when choosing their major, it was found that volunteer jobs were more positive in terms of traditional images, social images through recommendations, and professional images with aptitude and interest. Conclusion : In sum, most of the students in the social welfare departments had a positive perception of the social worker position. They had a more positive image at the time of admission. Finally, students who entered the school with an expert awareness of social welfare were more positive.
Objectives: The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of gender role identity on major choice, and preference and choice of job for applicants of dental hygiene department. Methods: The subjects were 202 high school girl students visiting K university in October, 2014 and in January, 2015 for the interview of early and regular admission to the university. The questionnaire consisted of 3 questions of general characteristics of the subjects, 40 questions of gender role identity, and 6 questions of career choice factors. Gender role identity included 15 questions of masculinity, 15 questions of feminity, and 10 questions of neutral gender using instrument of Kim by Likert scale. Cronbach's alpha of masculinity, feminity, and neutral gender was 0.810, 0.762, and 0.801 respectively. The data were analyzed using ${\chi}^2$-test with SPSS Win 12.0. Results: The effects of gender role identity on major choice and professionalism were as follows. In major choice motivation, psychological type, feminity type and masculinity types selected aptitude, professional sustainability and recommendation by acquaintance in order, but undifferentiated type selected aptitude, recommendation by acquaintance and professional sustainability in order. There was a statistically significant difference(p<0.05). In major choice information, psychological, feminity and undifferentiated types prefer indirect experience but masculinity type prefers direct experience. There was a statistically significant difference(p<0.05) In job selection, psychological, feminity and undifferentiated types want to do assistant works rather than oral health prevention and education. Masculinity type want to do oral health prevention and education rather than assistant work. There was a statistically significant difference(p<0.001). Conclusions: The gender role identity affected the factors related to choice of major and job in dental hygiene major applicants. It is necessary to provide the career choice program for the high school students by personality types and gender role identity types.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the awareness towards academic misconduct in nursing students. A descriptive survey was performed from November to December in 2015 with self-reporting questionnaires for awareness toward academic misconduct. Participants were 355 nursing students who was in attendance at department of nursing in three university. Data were analyzed using SPSS 22.0. As a result of the study, nursing students' average point of awareness towards academic misconduct is about 1.71 out of 4. The study showed that irresponsibility on the class was the lowest level, on the other hand, disrespectful behavior in patient care was the highest among awareness towards academic misconduct. This has significant differences according to the their interpersonal relationship and motivation of admission. This study may provide basic data for enhancement of nursing students' recognition of academic improvement in academic integrity. Further studies should be needed to assess academic integrity policies, violations, and the results of the measures in nursing students.

Purpose : This study is a descriptive survey research that examines the effect of nursing students' satisfaction in major and consciousness of biomedical ethics on nursing professionalism. Methods : The research subjects consisted of junior and senior nursing students enrolled in four colleges located in City B, South Korea Structured questionnaires were distributed to the subject and a total of 262 copies of survey responses were analyzed. The collected data were analyzed by frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation, t-test, and analysis of variance (ANOVA) using SPSS/WIN 22.0 program. The correlation relationship was investigated based on the Pearson correlation coefficient. Multiple regression was used to capture the effect on the nursing professionalism. Results : A positive correlation was observed between the nursing students satisfaction in major and consciousness of biomedical ethics (r=.280, p<.001), between satisfaction in major and nursing professionalism (r=.581, p<.001), and between consciousness of biomedical ethics and nursing professionalism (r=.290, p<.001). General satisfaction (β=.227, p=.001), and relationship satisfaction (β=.248, p=.000) among major satisfaction had the strongest prediction power for the nursing professionalism of nursing students, followed by right to life of fetus (β=.190, p=.000) among consciousness of biomedical ethics and motivation for admission (β=.137, p=.006). These predictors explained 36.9 % of the variable of nursing professionalism. Conclusion : Based on this study result, repeated studies are required that can confirm diverse influential factors on the nursing professionalism of nursing students. Operation of curriculums and development of programs that increase the nursing students' satisfaction in major and foster their nursing professionalism are required in the future.

The purpose of this study is to explore the experience of graduates' career success who actively participated during their school days. The experience of participation in education has been explored from three perspectives: input, environment, and output. The first factor which is the input includes the admission process, motivation for application, and methods of appropriating tuition fees. The second factor which is the environment includes the interrelationships with both in and out of school activities, in-class activities, and in-college members. Lastly, the output factor of university education includes the results of university education and the perception of social advancement. The subjects of the study were 21 students who succeeded in entering society based on their goals. The interviews and surveys were conducted, and the factors affecting their career success were analyzed by dividing them into three upper categories and each category is to create implications for the future direction of university education.
This study is a descriptive study to investigate the effects of communication competence and compassionate competence on academic self-efficacy of nursing students. The subjects of this study were 131 nursing students and the data collection was from November 5 to 30, 2018. Data was analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, correlation analysis, and hierarchical regression analysis. Significant relationships were found among communication competence and compassionate competence and academic self-efficacy. Motivation for admission, adaptation of nursing, participation on practice and compassion competence were found to academic self-efficacy. Therefore, in order to increase the academic self-efficacy it is necessary to make efforts to increase the participation on practice and to improve compassion competence as a strategy to increase academic self-efficacy of nursing students.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of Problem-Based Learning on Academic Resilience, Learning Flow, and Academic Motivation in nursing students. Methods: Research design was a non-equivalent control group pretest-posttest design. The participants were 121 sophomore nursing students from two universities. They were divided into the Problem-Based Learning group (n=61) and Lecture-Based Learning group (n=60). The data were analyzed by Chi-square, paired t-test, and independent t-test. Results: In the PBL group, there was statistically significant improvement in Academic Resilience after intervention (pretest $3.88{\pm}.36$, posttest $4.00{\pm}.38$, p<.001). However, no statistically significant difference was found in the Lecture-Based Learning (LBL) group (pretest $3.86{\pm}.43$, posttest $3.93{\pm}.17$). In terms of Learning Flow, there was statistically significant improvement in the PBL group (pretest $3.31{\pm}.41$, posttest $3.51{\pm}.42$). However, no significant change was identified in the LBL group (pretest $3.45{\pm}.42$, posttest $3.48{\pm}.47$. Academic motivation was improved in the LBL group (pretest $3.32{\pm}.30$, posttest $3.46{\pm}.32$, p=.002) as well as in the PBL group (pretest $3.26{\pm}.23$, posttest $3.47{\pm}.21$, p<.001). Both results were statistically significant. Conclusion: These results suggest that Problem-Based Learning could be more effective for nursing students in improving their academic achievement. Further studies need to be investigated.

It has been about 30 years since women students entered the Maritime College at Mokpo National Maritime University (MMU) and Korea Maritime & Ocean University to train as maritime seafarers. The women have been choosing a maritime college regardless of the Boarding Service Reserve System. Therefore, it is necessary to continuously study the motivation for admission, preferences for boarding, and desired career paths to guide the distinction and vision of maritime colleges. Accordingly, this study conducted a questionnaire survey on 93 women students attending the Maritime College at MMU. Of the respondents, 35.5 % said that they enrolled to become maritime officials and 30.1 % to become maritime seafarers. In addition to the current training for maritime seafarers, additional courses are required to train maritime experts. The study found that 88.2 % of the respondents thought that women's embarkation was more difficult than usual. It is considered that a systematic education program is needed for the onboard life of women maritime seafarers in schools and shipping companies. It was found that 69.6 % of the respondents preferred to embark as seafarers after graduation. After graduating from university, 32.3 % of the respondents said that they preferred to become navigation officers or engineers. It was also found that 24.7 % preferred to become marine-related civil servants / professionals, and 18.3 % preferred to become marine police. From the total, 83.9 % hoped for careers in marine-related fields. It is, therefore, necessary to organize courses and further education according to the motives for admission and preferred occupations of women students.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to examine the stressors and stress-adaptation patterns of students preparing for the national dental hygiene certification examination. Methods : The subjects in this study were dental hygiene juniors in four selected colleges located in the metropolitan area. After a survey was conducted, the collected data were analyzed. Results : 1. Concerning motivation of choosing the department of dental hygiene, the largest group that accounted for 72.2 percent chose it due to employment prospects. As to satisfaction level with the department, 40.4 percent were satisfied. In relation to employment prospects, 54.1 percent thought the prospects were bright. 2. They got a mean of 3.23 in stressors. To be specific, they felt the most stress due to test anxiety(3.70), followed by leisure insufficiency (3.21), the uncertainty of the future(3.18) and parental pressure(2.64). 3. They got a mean of 2.02 in stress-adaptation method. They got 2.31 and 1.72 in long-term and short-term adaptation respectively, which showed that long-term stress adaptation method were more prevailing than short-term ones. 4. As for the relationship of the stressors, there was positive correlation among all the test anxiety, future uncertainty, leisure insufficiency and parental pressure, and their correlation was statistically significant(p<0.000). 5. Regarding connections between general characteristics and the stressors, whether they spent two years or more for college admission, satisfaction level with the dental hygiene department, employment prospects and health status made significant differences to the stressors (p<0.05), and there were significant gaps in adaptation patterns according to academic standing, satisfaction level with the department and health state(p<0.05). Conclusions : The dental hygiene students were under great pressure since they had to prepare for the national dental hygiene certification examination to become a certified dental hygienist, one of professional health care workers. Therefore stress counseling programs and stress-coping programs should be developed to relieve the stress of dental hygiene students who are going to take the national dental hygiene certification examination. And they should be assisted to stay away from stress and to handle their stress in a more active manner.
Background: Due to the declining number of students preparing for university entrance exams , the quota of universities has been decreasing continuously. This situation became increasingly diverse as new media used online, mobile, and PR tools to continuously invite students. This study is aimed at offering the helpful data to plan an effective PR strategy by analyzing the correlation between the major selection and satisfaction of the department's social media usage among freshmen majoring in dental hygiene. Methods: The collected data from the self-reported survey with freshmen were analyzed using the SPSS 22.0 program. The survey items were motive to select the major, social media platform that subjects used, reasons to use the media, time to visit the department's social media platform, and satisfaction level on the department's social media platform, using a 5-point Likert Scale. Results: The reasons for choosing a major were given by 32.2% and 15.9% respondents, respectively, as the vision after graduation and practice facilities. 39.9% and 31.4% used Instagram and YouTube for social media platforms, respectively, for using social media platform; 26.9% and 26.3% visited the department's social media before and after entering the university, respectively; 46.4% and 24.9% used Instagram and YouTube for department social media; and they generally satisfied with the contents of the department's social media. 40.9% of them said that information from the department's social media was useful. 33.8% of them said the information from the department's social media exceeded their expectations. 46.8% of them answered that the department's social media made the department's image positive. 33.4% got interested in the major more due to the department's social media. According to 32.1% of respondents, the department's social media was helpful in deciding on a major. With 35.4%, a positive correlation was discovered between the department's practice facilities and satisfaction on the department's social media. Conclusion: It is thought that the department's social media should try continuously by uploading the contents to meet the users' needs on a regular basis and seeking the plans to be able to collect various opinions using surveys through the related social media so that students can select the major and, moreover, lead the positive direction to adapt the university life under the unfamiliar environment after admission.
