In this paper, we propose a new method of indexing and searching based on object-specific features at different semantic levels for video retrieval. A moving trajectory model is used as an indexing key for accessing the individual object in the semantic level. By tracking individual objects with segmented data, we can generate motion trajectories and set model parameters using polynomial curve fitting. The proposed searching scheme supports various types of queries including query by example, query by sketch, and query on weighting parameters for event-based video retrieval. When retrieving the interested video clip, the system returns the best matching event in the similarity order.

In this paper, stable and robust dynamic walking for a biped motion is proposed. To success this objective, the following structures are processed. In this paper, the proposed control method is one that adjusts actual zero moment position to move to the closest possible point in the stable area instead of following desired zero moment position. This minimizes energy consumption with the smallest joint movements. The proposed control method makes mechanical energy that drives lower limb of the bipedal robot efficient. In this paper, walking experiment is carried out with the three control structures mentioned above. The trajectory generated by off-line is illustrated by performing to walking on flat ground. experiment with an obstacle whose height is lower than that of trajectory is executed to validate dynamic motion.

The initial trajectory of a spheroid configuration bobbin for precision guidance has been investigated by analyzing its aerodynamic load and six-degree-of-freedom motion. The effects of changes in the spheroidal head configuration, flow angle and lateral center-of-gravity offset are numerically studied using the commercial software "FLUENT". A wind tunnel test is also conducted to validate the numerical scheme and to examine effect of the Reynolds number on the flow around the bobbin. It is shown that the size of the separation bubble formed on the surface decreases significantly when the Reynolds number is varied between 110,000 and 140,000. At a zero flow angle, an oblate spheroidal head shows relatively moderate rotation while a prolate spheroidal head shows rapid rotation. The bobbin with a spherical head shape has little effect on the flow direction; however, the oblate bobbin is sensitive to the flow angle. The roll motion of the bobbin is greatly influenced by the lateral center-of-gravity offset and maximum dispersion is observed at half of the radius.

This paper presents a reduction method for a straight-line path error of a flexible beam deploying from a rotating rigid hub. Previous studies discussed about only vibration phenomena of flexible beams deploying from rotating hubs; however, this study investigates a vibration reduction of a rotating beam with variable length. The equation of motion and associated boundary conditions are derived for a flexible beam deploying from a rotating rigid hub, and then they are transformed to a variational equation. By applying the Galerkin method, the discretized equations are obtained from the variational equation. Based on the discretized equations, the dynamic responses of a rotating/deploying beam are analyzed when the beam end has a straight line motion. A reduction method for the trajectory error is proposed, using the average length of a rotating/deploying beam. It is shown that the proposed method is able to reduce the residual vibration of a rotating/deploying beam.
In the signal processing of synthetic aperture sonar, it is subject that the platform in which the sensor array is installed moves along the straight line path. In practical operation in underwater, however, the sensor platform will have trajectory disturbances, diverting from the line path. It causes phase errors in measured signals and then produces deteriorated SAS images. In this study, in order to develop towed SAS, as tools to remove the phase errors associated with the trajectory disturbances of the towfish, motion compensation technique using Redundant Phase Center (RPC) and also Phase Gradient Autofocus (PGA) method is investigated. The performances of these two approaches are examined by means of a simulation for SAS system having a sway disturbance.

Small-scale ground mobile robots can access confined spaces where people or larger robots are unable. As the scale of the robot decreases, the relative size of the environment increases; therefore, maintaining the mobility of the small-scale robot is required. However, small-scale robots have limitations in using a large number of high-performance actuators, powerful computational devices, and a power source. Insects can effectively navigate various terrains in nature with their legged motion. Discrete contact with the ground and the foot enables creatures to traverse irregular surfaces. Inspired by the leg motion of the insect, researchers have developed small-scale robots and they implemented swing and lifting motions of the leg by designing leg linkages that can be adapted to small-scale robots. In this paper, we propose a leg linkage design for insect-inspired small-scale ground mobile robots. To use minimal actuation and reduce the control complexity, we designed a 1-DOF 3-dimensional leg linkage that can generate a proper leg trajectory using one continuous rotational input. We analyzed the kinematics of the proposed leg linkage to investigate the effect of link parameters on the foot trajectory.

This paper focuses on the problem of local obstacle avoidance of mobile robots. To solve this problem, the safety direction section search algorithm is suggested. This concept is mainly composed with non-collision section and collision section from the detecting area of laser scanning sensor. Then, we will search for the most suitable direction in these sections. The proposed local motion planning method is simple and requires less computation than others. An environment model is developed using the vector space concept to determine robot motion direction taking the target direction, obstacle configuration, and robot trajectory into account. Since the motion command is obtained considering motion dynamics, it results in smooth and fast as well as safe movement. Using the mobile base, the proposed obstacle avoidance method is tested, especially in the environment with pillar, wall and some doors. Also, the proposed autonomous motion planning and control algorithm are tested extensively. The experimental results show the proposed method yields safe and stable robot motion through the motion speed is not so fast.
The performance of a vertical type centrifugal distributor of granular materials was studied by means of mathematical models and experimental investigations. To develop the mathematical description of particle motion, some assumptions were made. The distribution process consisted of three stages: the entrance of a particle to the blade, the motion of the particle on the blade, and the motion of the particle in the air. The physical properties of fertilizer, which affected the particle motion, were investigated: bluk density, coefficient of friction, coefficient of restitution, and particle size distribution. The particle motion were simulated by using a computer. A prototype distributor was designed and constructed for experimental tests. The following conclusions were drawn from the computer simulation and experiment results. 1. The fertilizer may slide or roll at the point of contact when they impact on the blade and move along the blade. 2. The interaction among fertilizers may prevent them from bouncing. 3. When fertilizers roll on the blade, rolling resistance is one of the factors affecting the particle's motion. 4. The trajectory angle and position of fertilizers from a disc depend on the blade position and particle shape, but the rotating speed of the disc affected them only slightly.
In this study, a motion planning method based on the integer representation of contact status between wheels and the ground is proposed for planning swing motion of a 6×6 wheel-legged robot to cross large obstacles and gaps. Wheel-legged robots can drive on a flat road by wheels and overcome large obstacles by legs. Autonomously crossing large obstacles requires the robot to perform complex motion planning of multi-contacts and wheel-rolling at the same time. The lift-off and touch-down status of wheels and the trajectories of legs should be carefully planned to avoid collision between the robot body and the obstacle. To address this issue, we propose a planning method for swing motion of robot legs. It combines an integer representation of discrete contact status and a trajectory optimization based on the direct collocation method, which results in a mixed-integer nonlinear programming (MINLP) problem. The planned motion is used to control the joint angles of the articulated legs. The proposed method is verified by the MuJoCo simulation and shows that over 95% and 83% success rate when the height of vertical obstacles and the length of gaps are equal to or less than 1.68 times of the wheel radius and 1.44 times of the wheel diameter, respectively.
Motion capture system is widely used nowadays in the entertainment industry like movies, computer games and broadcasting. This system consist of several high resolution and high speed CCD cameras and expensive frame grabbing hardware for image acquisition. KAIST VR laboratory focused on low cost system for a few years and have been developed a LAN based optical motion capture system. But, by using low cost system some problems like occlusion, noise and swapping of markers' trajectory can be occurred. And more labor intensive work is needed for post-processing process. In this thesis, we propose a trajectory rectification algorithm by confidence model of markers attached on actor. Confidence model is based on graph structure and consist of linkage, marker and frame confidence. To reduce the manual work in post-processing, we have to reconstruct the marker graph by maximizing the frame confidence.
