Colloidal systems or colloids consist of microparticles or nanoparticles (solute) uniformly suspended in a liquid (solvent), also called colloidal suspensions. They can mimic and exhibit microscopic or atomic aspects of molecular and atomic systems. They have been increasingly studied because of their similarity with atomic systems. They can be microscopically observed by optical microscopes because they are large enough in size and slow in motion to be monitored; microscopic methods are very useful and powerful in research on colloidal systems. Recently, confocal laser microscopy has been known as a powerful tool to obtain information of real-space and real-time behaviors of colloidal suspensions. In particular, it is possible to exactly track individual colloids in three dimensions with confocal microscopy. In this article, we briefly discuss the usefulness of confocal microscopy in colloidal systems that are currently used as model systems to resolve important questions in materials science.
The analysis of distribution line faults is essential to the proper protection of power system. A high impedance fault(HIF) dose not make enough current to cause conventional protective device operating, so it is well known that undesirable operating conditions and certain types of faults on electric distribution feeders cannot be detected by using conventional protection system. In this paper, we prove that the nature of the high impedance faults is indeed a deterministic chaos, not a random motion. Algorithms for estimating Lyapunov spectrum and the largest Lyapunov exponent are applied to various fault currents detections in order to evaluate the orbital instability peculiar to deterministic chaos dynamically, and fractal dimensions of fault currents which represent geometrical self-similarity are calculated. Wavelet transform analysis is applied the time-scale information to fault signal. Time-scale representation of high impedance faults can detect easily and localize correctly the fault waveform.

Previous studies on high impedance faults assumed that the erratic behavior of fault current would be random. In this paper we prove that the nature of the high impedance faults is indeed a deterministic chaos not a random motion. Algorithms for estimating Lyapunov spectrum and the largest Lyapunov exponent are applied to various fault currents in order to evaluate the orbital instability peculiar to deterministic chaos dynamically and fractal dimensions of fault currents which represent geometrical self-similarity are calculated. In addition qualitative analysis such a s phase planes Poincare maps obtained from fault currents indicate that the irregular behavior is described by strange attractor.

This paper proposes an algorithm to speed up block structure partition of quad tree plus binary tree (QTBT) in Joint Exploration Test Model (JEM) encoder. The proposed fast encoding of QTBT block partition employs three spatially neighbor coded blocks, such as left, top-left, and top of current block, to early terminate QTBT block structure pruning. The propose algorithm is organized based on statistical similarity of those spatially neighboring blocks, such as block depths and coded block types, which are coded with overlapped block motion compensation (OBMC) and adaptive multi transform (AMT). The experimental results demonstrate about 30% encoding time reduction with 1.3% BD-rate loss on average compared to the anchor JEM-7.1 software under random access configuration.

The basic purpose of the current study is to compute the numerical analysis of heat source/sink for Darcy-Forchheimer three dimensional nanofluid flow with gyrotactic microorganism by rotatable disk via porous media under the slip conditions. Due to nanoparticles, random and thermophoretic motion phenomenon occurs. The governing mathematical model is handled numerically by shooting method. Additionally, the characteristics of velocities, mass, heat, motile microorganisms and associated parameters are thoroughly analyzed via plots and tables. Different physical parameters like Forchheimer number, slip parameters like velocity, porosity parameter, Prandtl number, Brownian number, thermophoresis parameter, heat sink/source parameter, bioconvected Rayleigh number, buoyancy parameteron dimensionless velocities, temperature. Approximate values of Sherwood microorganism are analyzed.
Objectives : In this study, we quantitatively evaluated the needle forces using needle insertion-measurement system and compared the needle sensation of each acupuncture practical model. Methods : After inserting acupuncture with a sensor to six models, a lifting-thrusting motion was implemented using the needle insertion-measurement system. The needle force was measured repeatedly, and the measurement was analyzed based on the modified Karnopp friction model for a comparison of friction coefficients. After the insertion, practitioners did lifting-thrusting manipulations. They quantified the similarity of needle sensation with VAS (Visual Analogue Scale). Results : When friction force and coefficients of friction in five different models were compared with a porcine shank model, all five models were significantly different from a porcine shank model, cotton and apple showing the closest frictional values to that of a porcine shank model. In the Cp and Cn values of cotton and in the Cp values of IM injection pad, there was no statistically significant difference. The similarity of the needle sensation between the porcine shank and five models was the highest in the apple, and overlapping papers was the lowest. Conclusions : This study quantitatively compared the physical forces in the practical model when implementing lifting-thrusting manipulations, using a needle insertion-measurement system. We suggest that a reproducible exercise model that reflects the characteristics of various human tissues, such as viscoelasticity or strength, needs to be further developed. This will contribute to establishing standardized acupuncture practice training.

This thesis suggests a new algorithm to detects multiple moving objects using a CMODE(Correct Multiple Object DEtection) method in the color images acquired in real-time and to track the interested pedestrian using motion and hue information. The multiple objects are detected, and then shaking trees or moving cars are removed using structural characteristics and shape information of the man , the interested pedestrian can be detected, The first similarity judgment for tracking an interested pedestrian is to use the distance between the previous interested pedestrian's centroid and the present pedestrian's centroid. For the area where the first similarity is detected, three feature points are calculated using k-mean algorithm, and the second similarity is judged and tracked using the average hue value for the $3{\times}3$ area of each feature point. The zooming of camera is adjusted to track an interested pedestrian at a long distance easily and the FOV(Field of View) of camera is adjusted in case the pedestrian is not situated in the fixed range of the screen. As a experiment results, comparing the suggested CMODE method with the labeling method, an average approach rate is one fourth of labeling method, and an average detecting time is faster three times than labeling method. Even in a complex background, such as the areas where trees are shaking or cars are moving, or the area of shadows, interested pedestrian detection is showed a high detection rate of average 96.5%. The tracking of an interested pedestrian is showed high tracking rate of average 95% using the information of situation and hue, and interested pedestrian can be tracked successively through a camera FOV and zooming adjustment.
This paper proposed the face tracking method which can be effectively applied to the robot's vision system. The proposed algorithm tracks the facial areas after detecting the area of video motion. Movement detection of video images is done by using median filter and erosion and dilation operation as a method for removing noise, after getting the different images using two continual frames. To extract the skin color from the moving area, the color information of sample images is used. The skin color region and the background area are separated by evaluating the similarity by generating membership functions by using MIN-MAX values as fuzzy data. For the face candidate region, the eyes are detected from C channel of color space CMY, and the mouth from Q channel of color space YIQ. The face region is tracked seeking the features of the eyes and the mouth detected from knowledge-base. Experiment includes 1,500 frames of the video images from 10 subjects, 150 frames per subject. The result shows 95.7% of detection rate (the motion areas of 1,435 frames are detected) and 97.6% of good face tracking result (1,401 faces are tracked).
In these days, researches about underwater robots have been actively in progress for the purposes of ocean detection and resource exploration. Unlike general underwater robots such as ROV(Remotely Operated Vehicle) and AUV(Autonomous Underwater Vehicle) which have propellers, an articulated underwater robot which is called Crabster has been being developed in KORDI(Korea Ocean Research & Development Institute) with many cooperation organizations since 2010. The robot is expected to be able to walk and swim under the sea with its legs. Among many researching fields of this project, we are focusing on a swimming section. In order to find effective swimming locomotion for the robot, we approached this subject in terms of Biomimetics. As a model of optimized swimming organism in nature, diving beetles were chosen. In the paper, swimming motions of diving beetles were analyzed in viewpoint of robotics for applying them into the swimming motion of the robot. After modeling the kinematics of diving beetle through robotics engineering technique, we obtained swimming patterns of the one of living diving beetles, and then compared them with calculated optimal swimming patterns of a robot leg. As the first trial to compare the locomotion data of legs of the diving beetle with a robot leg, we have sorted two representative swimming patterns such as forwarding and turning. Experimental environment has been set up to get the motion data of diving beetles. The experimental equipment consists of a transparent aquarium and a high speed camera. Various swimming motions of diving beetles were recorded with the camera. After classifying swimming patterns of the diving beetle, we can get angular data of each joint on hind legs by image processing software, Image J. The data were applied to an optimized algorithm for swimming of a robot leg which was designed by robotics engineering technique. Through this procedure, simulated results which show trajectories of a robot leg were compared with trajectories of a leg of a diving beetle in desired directions. As a result, we confirmed considerable similarity in the result of trajectory and joint angles comparison.
