Scaling-Translation Parameter Estimation using Genetic Hough Transform for Background Compensation

  • Background compensation plays an important role in detecting and isolating object motion in visual tracking. Here, we propose a Genetic Hough Transform, which combines the Hough Transform and Genetic Algorithm, as a method for eliminating background motion. Our method can handle cases in which the background may contain only a few, if any, feature points. These points can be used to estimate the motion between two successive frames. In addition to dealing with featureless backgrounds, our method can successfully handle motion blur. Experimental comparisons of the results obtained using the proposed method with other methods show that the proposed approach yields a satisfactory estimate of background motion.

  • Motion blur in PET (Positron emission tomography) images induced by respiratory motion will reduce the quality of imaging. Although exiting methods have positive performance for respiratory motion correction in medical practice, there are still many aspects that can be improved. In this paper, an improved 3D unsupervised framework, Res-Voxel based on U-Net network was proposed for the motion correction. The Res-Voxel with multiple residual structure may improve the ability of predicting deformation field, and use a smaller convolution kernel to reduce the parameters of the model and decrease the amount of computation required. The proposed is tested on the simulated PET imaging data and the clinical data. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed achieved Dice indices 93.81%, 81.75% and 75.10% on the simulated geometric phantom data, voxel phantom data and the clinical data respectively. It is demonstrated that the proposed method can improve the registration and correction performance of PET image.

  • 현재 사용하고 있는 LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) Backlight용 램프는 주로 CCFL(Cold Cathod Fluorescent Lamp)과 EEFL(External Electrode Fluorescent Lamp)이 사용되고 있다. 하지만 이 램프는 수은을 사용하여 RoHS(the Restriction of the use of certain Hazardous Substances in electrical and electronic equipment)규제가 점점 강화되면서 사용이 제한되고 있으며, 이에 따라 수은을 사용하지 않는 램프의 제작이 불가피해지고 있다. 또한 LCD TV는 CRT와 PDP와는 다른 LCD만의 Hold-type 특성과 LC(Liquid Crystal)의 응답속도로 인하여 Motion Blur현상이 나타나는 단점이 있다. 본 논문에서는 RoHS 규제를 만족시키는 무수은 면광원 램프를 구동하기 위한 인버터를 제안한다. 제안한 인버터는 포워드 방식을 사용하여 반도체 소자 및 자기 소자의 수를 줄여서 구동회로가 간단하다. 또한 면광원 램프를 세로방향으로 6블록으로 나누어 스캔구동을 하여 Motion Blur현상을 저감 시켰다. 끝으로 실험을 통하여 제안한 인버터의 유용성을 입증하였다.

  • Field emission-back light unit (FE-BLU) was fabricated using carbon nanotube (CNT) emitter. Local dimming and local brightening techniques were achieved, which results in very high contrast ratio. In addition, the motion blur phenomenon, one of the serious problems of liquid crystal display (LCD) with cold cathode fluorescent lamp (CCFL)-BLU, was removed from LCD-TV by using FE-BLU.

  • In applying LCD to TV application, one of the most significant factors to be improved is image sticking on the moving picture. LCD is different from CRT in the sense that it's continuous passive device, which holds images in entire frame period, while impulse type device generate image in very short time. To reduce image sticking problem related to hold type display mode, we made an experiment to drive TN-LCD like CRT. We made articulate images by turn on-off backlight, and we realized the ratio of Back Light on-off time by counting between on time and off time for video signal input during 1 frame (16.7 ms). Conventional CCFL (cold cathode fluorescent lamp) cannot follow fast on-off speed, so we evaluated new fluorescent substances of light source to improve residual light characteristic of CCFL. We realized articulate image generation similar to CRT by CCFL blinking drive and TN-LCD overdriving. As a result, reduced image sticking phenomenon was validated by naked eye and response time measurement.

  • 교통 신호등은 운전자 혹은 보행자들의 뚜렷한 시인성 확보를 위해 가능한 주위 배경과 구분되는 색상, 모양, 질감 등으로 구성하여 설치되어 있는 특징을 가지고 있다. 결국 기존 교통 신호등 검출 연구들에서는 대부분 교통 신호등의 색상과 모양을 기반으로 한 검출 연구가 주류를 이루고 있는 것이 사실이다. 하지만, 외부 날씨, 복잡한 시내, 다른 물체와의 겹침 등의 문제로 인해 색상 및 모양 기반의 교통 신호등, motion blur, 검출 오류가 증가 되고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 입력 영상에서 색상정보를 배제하고 motion blur나 밝기 변화에 덜 민감하고 먼 거리에서도 뛰어난 시인성을 가진 spot light 검출을 통해 입력 영상에서 가장 밝은 교통표지판 후보 영역들을 검출한다. 그리고 교통 신호등의 특징인 가능한 원형을 유지하고 있으며 원형 외부 색상과 내부 색상이 현저하게 두드러지는 영역을 maximally stable extremal regions (MSER) 알고리즘을 사용하여 입력 영상에서 후보 영역을 선택한다. 마지막으로, 검출된 영역들에서 교통 신호등 영역을 검출하기 위해 템플릿 매칭 방법을 적용한다. 제안한 방법을 도로 상에서 실험한 결과, 평균 94% 이상의 검출율을 제시하였고, 특히 야간 시간대에 검출율이 비교적 높게 제시되었다.

  • Text recognition in natural scene images is a challenging problem in computer vision. The accurate identification of ship number characters can effectively improve the level of ship traffic management. However, due to the blurring caused by motion and text occlusion, the accuracy of ship number recognition is difficult to meet the actual requirements. To solve these problems, this paper proposes a dual-branch network based on the CRNN identification network. The network couples image restoration and character recognition. The CycleGAN module is used for blur restoration branch, and the Pix2pix module is used for character occlusion branch. The two are coupled to reduce the impact of image blur and occlusion. Input the recovered image into the text recognition branch to improve the recognition accuracy. After a lot of experiments, the model is robust and easy to train. Experiments on CTW datasets and real ship maps illustrate that our method can get more accurate results.

  • Motion-induced artifacts on LCDs appear as blurred boundaries and/or color aberration between the moving objects and background. Perceived degree of the motion-induced artifacts depends on the blur width as well as color difference. This paper presents a quantitative measure for the motion-induced artifacts on LCDs. Performance of the proposed measure is verified by calculating correlation coefficients between the proposed measures and the results of human visual tests performed on the 240 Hz and 120 Hz scanning LCD TVs.

A Study on Image Resolution Increase According to Sequential Apply Detector Motion Method and Non-Blind Deconvolution for Nondestructive Inspection (비파괴검사를 위한 검출기 이동 방법과 논블라인드 디컨볼루션 순차 적용에 따른 이미지 해상도 증가 연구)

  • Non-destructive inspection using X-rays is used as a method to check the inside of products. In order to accurately inspect, a X-ray image requires a higher spatial resolution. However, the reduction in pixel size of the X-ray detector, which determines the spatial resolution, is time-consuming and expensive. In this regard, a DMM has been proposed to obtain an improved spatial resolution using the same X-ray detector. However, this has a limitation that the motion blur phenomenon, which is a decrease in spatial resolution. In this paper, motion blur was removed by applying Non-Blind Deconvolution to the DMM image, and the increase in spatial resolution was confirmed. DMM and Non-Blind Deconvolution were sequentially applied to X-ray images, confirming 62 % MTF value by an additional 29 % over 33 % of DMM only. In addition, SSIM and PSNR were compared to confirm the similarity to the 1/2 pixel detector image through 0.68 and 33.21 dB, respectively.

  • The degradation of image due to the finite size of sensing devices has been one of the problems in all digital imaging systems. The basic study on the improvement of the spatial resolution was carried out in both spatial and frequency domains by the resolution recovery techniques which have been used in optics. Here, the techniques were applied to CT (Computerized Tomography) system, and image with finer resolution was obtained by these techniques. The basic theory is described and the results of the simulation are shown.
