Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of a discharge education program on maternal role confidence and parenting stress of mothers who delivered premature infants. The program provided them with information on childrearing and supportive educational nursing care. Method: This study was based on pretest-posttest nonequivalent nonsynchronized quasi-experimental design. The participants in this study were 30 mothers who delivered premature infants at a general hospital in G city. The instruments used in this study were Maternity Confidence Inventory, Parenting Stress Index(PSI). Results: The first hypothesis that the mothers in the experimental group would undergo changes in maternal role confidence after the intervention was accepted, as there was a statistically significant gap between the two groups(F=9.386, P=.000). The second hypothesis that mothers in the experimental group would undergo change in parenting stress after the intervention was accepted, as there was a statistically significant gap between the two groups(F=4.425, P=.380). Conclusion: The findings suggest that the Discharge Education Program was an efficient intervention method to boost the maternal confidence of mothers with premature infants and to decrease their parenting stress.
The objective of this research is to investigate the relation between the parenting stress, recognized by the working mothers, and associated variables systematically. For the purpose, I analyzed the demographic of the working mothers and surrounding variables at the levels of microsystem, mesosystem, and macrosystems, to relate with respect to the parenting stress problem. The research composes the sample space of working mothers having children less than 6 years old. The data were analyzed by the statistical method based on frequency, percentile, Pearson's correlation, hierachical and multiple regression. The main results of the research can be summarized as follows: According to the independent effects of diverse ecological systematic variables, there are shown that 11 independent variables can describe about 55.6% of the parenting stress of the working mothers. Among these variables, 'satisfaction about the child care' is the most significant factor, which covers about 34.5%. Additionally, the next significances are observed from such variables as 'temperament of children' (8.2%), 'satisfaction of marriage' (5.1%), 'support of spouse' (1.5%), 'level of education' (1.9%) and so on. In conclusion, it is strongly recommended to compensate and restructure the child care systems more systematically, to afford more reliable parenting environment to the dual earner mothers and fathers and children simultaneously.
This study investigated the pathways of factors affecting 173 employed mothers' second childbirth plans. Participants were all employed working mothers with an infant under 10 months old. The hypothetical model used in this research proposed that workplace childcare support, social support, value of children and parenting stress of employed mothers will directly affect second childbirth plans. Additionally, workplace childcare support, social support, value of children, marital satisfaction and job satisfaction will indirectly influence second childbirth plans as a result of parenting stress. The results of this research demonstrated that value of children and parenting stress were the factors which directly affected second childbirth plans of employed mothers. In addition, workplace childcare support, social support, marital satisfaction and job satisfaction indirectly influenced second childbirth plans as a result of parenting stress. This study suggests the need for the establishment and development of workplace childcare support and the need for enhancing the value of children. This research further suggests the need for policies aimed at increasing psychological well-being and decreasing parenting stress for working mothers who are contemplating second childbirth plans.

Objectives : We investigated the parenting stress and depressive mood of mothers with developmentally-delayed children and the effects of participation in a mother-child development promotion program on same. Methods : Subjects were the mothers of 20 developmentally-delayed children. The severity of the mothers' parenting stress was evaluated via the Korean version of the Parenting Stress Index, Short Form (K-PSI-SF) and the severity of their depressive symptoms were evalueted by the Korean version of the Beck Depression Inventory (K-BDI). Results : The mean K-PSI-SF score and mean K-BDI score for these mothers were 93.35 (SD=10.47) and 23.25 (SD=10.42), respectively. These scores correspond to high parenting stress and moderate depression. The mothers who participated in a mother-child attachment- promotion program showed significant decreases in their K-PSI-SF and KBDI scores. Conclusion : Our data suggest that a mother-child attachment promotion program with emphasis on child development is effective in reducing parenting stress and depressive mood in mothers of developmentally-delayed children.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to explore the mediating effects of executive function and emotion regulation of preschoolers on the relationships between mothers' affective parenting and preschoolers' peer competence. Methods: The participants were 3 to 5 year old preschoolers and their mothers (N = 241) living in Busan and Kyungnam province. Data analysis methods included descriptive statistics, Cronbach ${\alpha}$, Pearson's correlation analysis, and SEM. Data were analyzed using the SPSS Statistics 23.0 program and Amos 23.0 program. Results: The major findings of this study are as follows. First, mothers' affective parenting, preschoolers' executive function, emotion regulation, and peer competence correlated positively. Second, the relationship between mothers' affective parenting and preschoolers' peer competence was mediated by preschoolers' executive function and emotion regulation. Conclusion: These findings suggest the importance of mediating effects of preschoolers' executive function and emotion regulation on the relationship between mothers' affective parenting and preschoolers' peer competence.
This study was aimed at (1) investigating expectant mothers' prenatal attachment according to variables (age, gestational weeks, perceived health condition, anticipating the gender of the fetus, marriage duration, and parity), (2) analyzing correlations among their prenatal attachment, spousal support, and parenting efficacy, and (3) examining the role of prenatal attachment as a mediator between spousal support and parenting efficacy. For this purpose, 221 expectant mothers living in Seoul completed a 55-item survey. The collected data were analyzed by t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and regression analyses. The findings of this study were as follows. First, among the variables, gestational weeks, perceived health condition, marriage duration, and parity showed significant differences in the scores for the overall prenatal attachment and subordinate factors. Second, there were positive correlations between the expectant mothers' prenatal attachment and spousal support and between their prenatal attachment and parenting efficacy. Third, the expectant mothers' prenatal attachment proved to mediate between spousal support and parenting efficacy. These findings shed light on the significance of prenatal attachment and spousal support during the pregnancy period; therefore, it is essential to develop education programs for expecting parents to enhance prenatal attachment and spousal support and to conduct follow-up studies to verify the effectiveness of the programs.
A total of 227 children and their mothers participated in this study of the relationships between mother's thinking style and parenting self-efficacy and between parenting self-efficacy and children's social competence. Data were gathered with Thinking Style Scale Questionnaire, Parenting Self-efficacy Scale, and Social Competency Scale: Preschool. Correlation and multiple regressions were used for data analyses. A statistically significant correlation between mother's thinking styles and parenting self-efficacy and between mother's parenting self-efficacy and children's social competence emerged. That is, mothers whose thinking styles were legislative, hierarchical, and liberal had more parenting self-efficacy, and children whose mothers felt more confidence in their parenting had a higher degree of social competence.
This study investigated parenting knowledge, interactions between mother and infant, and relationship between mother's parenting knowledge and mother-infant interaction by mothers' demographic variables. Subjects were 311 mothers. Instruments were the Knowledge of Child Development Inventory (Larsen & Juhasz, 1986) and the Assessment Profile for Early Childhood programs (Abbott-Shim & Sibely, 1987). Data were analyzed by t-test and ANOVA. Results showed (1) differences about parenting knowledge by mothers' employment status, age and education level, (2) differences in mother-infant interaction by mothers' age and education level, (3) parenting knowledge about physical development correlated positively with positive interaction, linguistic modeling, and sensitive response knowledge about linguistic and cognitive development had a large effect on positive mother-infant interaction and linguistic modeling.
This study examined mothers′ confidence in parenting practices for dealing with children′s emotional and behavioral problems, as well as the relationships between different confident parenting practices and their application to children′s behavioral problems. A total of 337 mothers of 4- and 5-year-old children responded to the Mother′s Questionnaire of Children′s Behaviors, with the following study results. First, the mothers showed high confidence in applying their own parenting practices to their children′s behavioral problems without outside help. Second, the parenting practice of "asking for help from family members" was related to children′s withdrawn behaviors, anxious behaviors, aggressive behaviors, social relationship problems, moral problems, and rule and courtesy problems.
The purpose of this study was to examine the relations among mother's self-differentiation intimate. relationship parental role satisfaction and parenting stress. The subjects were 144 middle class mothers who have a first-born child aged from 6 to 36 months in Seoul. Data were gathered via questionnaire distributed to the mothers. The major results were as follows; (1) Mothers who achieved higher self-differentiation perceived lower parenting stress. (2) Mothers who highly satisfied with both their husbands' support and marital relations perceived lower parenting stress. (3) Mother's parental role satisfaction was not related to mother's parenting stress. (4) The variables predicting parenting stress were mother's self-differentiatin mother's satisfaction with intimate relationship and husband's support. However the predictive powers of these variables were different depending on mother's employment status.
