  • The synthesis of semiconductor nanoparticles is a growing research area due to the prospective applications for the development of novel technologies. In this paper we have reported the biosynthesis of Cadmium sulfide nanoparticles (CdSNPs) by reduction of cadmium sulphate solution, using the bacteria of Serratia nematodiphila. The process for the synthesis of CdS nanoparticles is fast, novel and ecofriently. Formation of the CdS nanoparticles was confirmed by surface Plasmon spectra using UV-Vis spectrophotometer and absorbance strong peak at 420 nm. The morphology of crystalline phase of nanoparticles was determined from Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Energy Dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction (XRD) spectra. The average size of CdS nanoparticles was in the range of 12 nm and the observed morphology was spherical. The results indicated that the proteins, which contain amine groups, played a reducing and controlling responsibility during the formation of CdS nanoparticles in the colloidal solution. Antibacterial activity against some bacteria such as Bacillus subtilis, Klebsiella planticola. CdS nanoparticles exhibiting good bactericidal activity.

  • The crystallization and morphology change of amorphous titanias by hydrothermal treatment have been investigated. The amorphous titanias were prepared by pure water hydrolysis of two different precursors, titanium tetraisopropoxide (TTIP) and TTIP modified with acetic acid (HOAc) and characterized prior to hydrothermal treatment. In order to avoid complicate situation, the hydrothermal treatment was performed in a single solvent water with and without strong acids at various temperatures. The effects of strong acid, temperature and time were systematically investigated on the transformation of amorphous titania to crystalline TiO2 under simple hydrothermal condition. Without strong acid the titanias were transformed into only anatase phase nanoparticle regardless of precursor type, temperature and time herein used (up to 250 ℃ and 48 hours). The treatment temperature and time effected only on the crystalline size, not on the crystal phase et al. However, it was clearly revealed that the strong acids such as HNO3 and HCl catalyzed the formation of rutile phase depending on temperature. HCl was slightly better than HNO3 in this catalytic activity. The morphology of rutile TiO2 formed was also a little affected by the type of acid. The precursor modifier, HOAc slightly reduced the catalytic activity of the strong acids in rutile phase formation.

  • This review paper evaluates different kinds of synthesis methods for calcite precipitated calcium carbonates by using different materials. The various processing routes of calcite with different compositions are reported and the possible optimum conditions required to synthesize a desired particle sizes of calcite are predicted. This paper mainly focuses on that the calcite morphology and size of the particles by carbonation process using loop reactors. In this regard, we have investigated various parameters such as $CO_2$ flow rate, Ca $(OH)_2$ concentration, temperature, pH effect, reaction time and loop reactor mechanism with orifice diameter. The research results illustrate the formation of well-defined and pure calcite crystals with controlled crystal growth and particle size, without additives or organic solvents. The crystal growth and particle size can be controlled, and smaller sizes are obtained by decreasing the Ca $(OH)_2$ concentration and increasing the $CO_2$ flow rate at lower temperatures with suitable pH. The crystal structure of obtained calcite was characterized by using X-ray diffraction method and the morphology by scanning electron microscope (SEM). The result of x-ray diffraction recognized that the calcite phase of calcium carbonate was the dominating crystalline structure.

  • High Power and high dose ion implantation is essentially needed to make power MOSFET devices based on SiC wafers, because the diffusivities of the impurities such as Al, N, p, B in SiC crystal are very low. In addition, it is needed high temperature annealing for electrical activation of the implanted species. Due to the very high annealing temperature, the surface morphology after electrical activation annealing becomes very rough. We have found the different surface morphologies between implanted and unimplanted region. The unimplanted region showed smoother surface morphology It implies that the damage induced by high energy ion implantation affects the roughening mechanism. Some parts of Si-C bonding are broken in the damaged layer, s\ulcorner the surface migration and sublimation become easy. Therefore the macrostep formation will be promoted. N-type 4H-SiC wafers, which were Al ion implanted at acceleration energy ranged from 30kev to 360kev, were activated at 1600$^{\circ}C$ for 30min. The pre-activation annealing for damage relaxation was performed at 1100-1500$^{\circ}C$ for 30min. The surface morphologies of pre-activation annealed and activation annealed were characterized by atomic force microscopy(AFM).

  • Optimizing the conditions for stem cell culture is an essential prerequisite for the efficient utilization of stem cells. In the culture of fish embryonic stem cells (ESCs) or ESC-like cells, embryo extracts are important for stable growth, but there is no rule for determining the developmental stage of the embryos used to obtain extracts. Therefore, this study investigated the effects of the developmental stage of extract donor embryos on the culture of Oryzias dancena ESC-like cells. O. dancena ESC-like cells were cultured in different media containing each of four types of embryo extract depending on the developmental stage of the extract donor embryos. Growth, morphology, colony-forming ability, alkaline phosphatase (AP) activity, and embryoid body (EB) formation of the cells were investigated. While the developmental stage of the extract donor embryos did not influence the growth, morphology, AP activity, or EB formation of ESC-like cells, colony-forming ability was affected and the pattern of the effects differed completely between the two ESC-like cells investigated. These results suggest that the developmental stage of extract donor embryos should be selected carefully for the culture of ESC-like cells, according to the research purpose and type of cell line.

  • A formation of aluminum hydroxide by hydrolysis reaction in the water has been studied by using nano aluminum powder fabricated by pulsed wire evaporation(PWE) method. The hydroxide type and morphology depending on temperature and pH were examined by structural analysis. The Boehmite($Al_2O_3$.$H_2O$ or AIO(OH)) was predominantly formed in high temperature region over 4$0^{\circ}C$, while the Bayerite($Al_2O_3$.$H_2O$ or $Al(OH)_3$) below $30^{\circ}C$ of hydrolysis temperature. The Boehmite formation was preferred to the Bayerite in acidic solution in the same hydrolysis temperature. The slowly formed Bayerite phase showed facet crystalline structure, while the fast formed Boehmite was fine fiber with a large aspect ratio of several nm in diameter and several hundred nm in length, and with much larger specific surface area(SSA) than that of Bayerite. The highest SSA was about $420m^2$/g.

  • Morphology and ultrastructure of protoplast fusion mode in Streptomyces lavendulae were studied by scanning and transmission electron microscopy. The isolated protoplasts were stable in some degree in hypertonic solution except that several protoplasts showed irregular morphology. Fusion events were occurred as follows; contact zone, fusion zone and separation zone were appeared sequentially. After formation of the separation zone, cytoplasm and DNA from both parents were mixed eventually. In the contact zone, two menbranes were still separated by electron transparent space. The contact zone changed to fusion zone by formation of fusion membrane that phospholipid molecules of two membranes were rearranged. Thereafter, nonmembraneous separation zone was formed by disappearance of fusion membrane. These changes were characterized by successive changes in typical membrane structure in fusion areas and by a progressive loss of bispherical shape.

  • The formation of silicon-on-nothing (SON) structure during an annealing process from the silicon substrate including the trench structures has been considered as an effective technique to construct the structure that has an empty space under the closed flat surface. Previous studies have demonstrated the mechanism of the formation of SON structure, which is based on the surface diffusion driven by the minimization of their surface energy. Also, it has been fragmentarily shown that the morphology of SON structure can be affected by the initial design of trench (e.g., size, number) and the annealing conditions (e.g., temperature, pressure). Based on the previous studies, here, we report a comprehensive study for the design of the cavity-embedded structure (i.e., SON structure). To do this, a dynamic model has been developed with the phase field approach. The simulation results represent that the morphology of SON structures could be detailedly designed, for example the position and thickness of cavity, the thickness of top and bottom layer, according to the design parameters. This study will give us an advantage in the effective design of SON structures.

  • In this study, we investigated morphology of nanotube and micropore on the Ti-25Nb-xHf alloys with Hf contents after anodization. Ti-25Nb-xHf ternary alloys contained from (0~15) wt.% Hf contents were manufactured by vacuum arc-melting furnace. The obtained ingots were homogenized in an argon atmosphere at $1000^{\circ}C$ for 12h and then water quenching. The specimens were cut from ingots to 3mm thickness and first ground and polished using SiC paper (grades from 100 to 2000). 2steps anodization treatments on Ti-25Nb-xHf alloys were carried out at room temperature for experiments. Micro-pore formation was performed in Ca+P mixed solution at 265V for 3min. After that, nanotube formation was in 1M $H_3PO_4$ electrolytes containing 0.8wt.% NaF solutionat 10V for 120min. Morphologies of micropore and nanotube depended on the Hf content in Ti-25Nb-xZr ternary system.
