Purpose: The purpose of this study was to assess social support, mood, and commitment to a plan for exercise of Korean adults with chronic diseases. Further, the relationships between social support, mood, and commitment to a plan for exercise were assessed. Method: The participants in this study were 230 Korean adults over 18 years of age with chronic diseases who were recruited in hospitals or health centers. The instruments used in this study were Exercise Social Support Scale, POMS (Profile of Mood States), and Commitment to a Plan for Exercise Scale. Result: The results of descriptive analysis showed that Korean adults with chronic diseases were perceived with relatively low commitment to a plan for exercise while they were perceived with moderate social support and mood states. Pearson's correlation coefficient showed significant relationship between these three variables. Stepwise regression indicated that 37% of the variance in commitment to a plan for exercise was explained by social support and vigor factor of the POMS. Conclusion: Health professionals can use this information for planning a targeted strategy to increase regular exercise among Korean adults with chronic diseases in order to improve their quality of life and control disease-related symptoms.

Objectives : Non-cardiac chest pain (NCCP) can be divided into gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) related NCCP and non-GERD related NCCP. Our study was designed to examine the differences in clinical characteristics and psychological mood states between the two clinical syndromes. Methods : After some cardiologic evaluations such as treadmill exercise, coronary angiography, and echocardiography, 27 patients with NCCP were enrolled in this study. They were divided into patients with GERD related NCCP (12 patients) and those with non-GERD related NCCP (15 patients) using the upper gastrointestinal endoscopy and the ambulatory 24 hour esophageal pH monitoring. Clinical characteristics such as typical reflux symptoms and psychological mood states were measured. Patients who showed scores more than 10 on the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) or Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) were defined as depressed or anxious group. Anxiety sensitivity Index (ASI) was also measured in all patients. All parameters were compared between patients with GERD related NCCP and those with non-GERD related NCCP. Results : The two groups showed a difference in typical reflux symptoms. Patients with non-GERD related NCCP had higher scores on the BDI, BAI and ASI than those with GERD related NCCP. Among all NCCP patients, 14 patients (51.9%) were suggested to have possible depression or anxiety disorders. Conclusion : The non-GERD related NCCP was shown to be associated with psychological mood states such as anxiety and depression. Thus, we suggest that routine measurement of psychological mood states should be necessary in the evaluation and treatment of NCCP.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the mood states and concentration of students when they see the natural scenery indoors throughout the Free Semester Program (FSP) of middle school. The subjects were total 180 students comprised of 60 students in the group viewing natural scenery, 60 students in the group viewing urban scenery and 60 students in the control group from the first year of middle school located in Daejeon, and the experiment was carried out from September 3 to October 30, in 2018. The results showed that tension, depression, anger, fatigue and confusion were decreased and vigor was increased significantly in group viewing natural scenery compared to group viewing urban scenery and the control group. Ratings of 'pleasant,' 'natural,' and 'calm' were increased and concentration was also improved significantly in the group viewing natural scenery compared to the group viewing urban scenery and the control group. This indicates that positive effects can be anticipated on the improvement of mood states and concentration by developing indoor program viewing natural scenery for people who have difficulties in outdoor activities.

To create urban landscapes that take human emotion into consideration, the present study verified the psychological effects of artificial waterscape facilities on users, as these facilities significantly impact their psychological comfort. Data was collected using the SD scales and POMS of 60 male and 60 female participants after they watched a video of four waterscape facilities. Participants deemed the video clip of a fountain waterscape to be artificial and linked it with changeable images that increased their vigor. The video clip of waterfall stimulated various impressions (e.g., vital, liked, active, etc.) and changed participant' mood states by increasing their vigor and decreasing fatigue. The video clip of the pond yielded familiar impressions, produced less free images, and decreased tension among participants. Finally, the video clip of the stream stimulated quiet and comfortable images as well as reduced negative feelings of anger, confusion, and depression among participants. Furthermore, males experienced more positive effects than females, regardless of the type of waterscape facility. The study findings indicate that the four different waterscape facilities influenced participants' mood states. Additionally, the psychological effects differed by gender. The data suggest that landscape planners need to carefully consider their choice of waterscape facility when designing green spaces to ensure that the space is psychologically comforting to users.
