Material nonlinear analyses of RC(Reinforced Concrete) beams considering the tension stiffening effect and plastic hinge length have been conducted. Instead of taking the sophisticated layer approach which has some limitations in application to the large structures with many degrees of freedom. the moment-curvature relationships of RC sections previously constructed through the section analysis have been used. To reduce the numerical instability in nonlinear analysis and to remove the imprecision in calculation of ultimate resisting capacity, according to the used finite element mesh size, the tension stiffening effect and plastic hinge length have been taken into consideration. Finally, correlation studies between analytical and experimental results have been conducted with the objective to establish the validity of the proposed algorithms.

A 2-bay 2-story moment-resisting reinforced concrete plane frame with seismic detail was designed. One 1/2.5-scale and one 1/10th model subassemblages were manufactured accoring to the required similitude law. Then the reversed load tests under the displacement control were performed statically to these subassemblages. The results of these tests were compared regarding to the similitude in the characteristics of structural behaviors such as strength., stiffness, energy dissipation, failure modes and local deformations. Based on these results, the following conclussions were drawn : (1) The strength of 1/10 model was very similar to that of 1/2.5 specimen. (2) The initial stiffness of 1/10 model appers to be approximately 2/3 of that of 1/2.5 specimen. (3) 1/10 model has therefore smaller energy dissipation capacity than 1/2.5 specimen. (4) Inelastic excursion mechanisms of 1/2.5 specimen and 1/10 model apper to be a little different.

Three building structures haying piloti frames in the lower two stories were selected as prototypes and were analyzed using nonlinear static analysis to investigate the seismic capacity of these buildings. The first one has a symmetrical moment resisting frame (Model 1), the second has an infilled shear wall in the central frame (Model 2), and the third has an infilled shear wall only in one of exterior frames (Model 3), The analytical results were compared with those of shaking table tests with regards to the overstrength and ductility of the irregular buildings. Infilled shear wall in Model 2 and Model 3 induced large overstrength factors, 6.8 and 6.0, respectively, which are about two times larger than that of Model 1, 3.5. The displacement ductility ratio in Model 2 was only 2.5, due to the shear failure of wall in the piloti stories, whereas those of Model 1 and Model 3 reached 3.2.
Successive ground motions having short time intervals have occurred in many earthquakes so far. It is necessary to investigate the effects of this phenomenon on different types of structures and to take these effects into consideration while designing or retrofitting structures. The effects of seismic sequences on the structures with combined reinforced concrete shear wall and moment resisting frame system have not been investigated in details yet. This paper has tried to analyse the seismic performance of structures with such structural systems subjected to mainshock-aftershock sequences. The effects of the seismic sequences on the investigated models are evaluated by strong measures such as IDA capacity and fragility and vulnerability curves. The results of this study show that the seismic sequences have a significant effect on the investigated models, which necessitates considering this effect on designing, retrofitting, decision making, and taking precautions.
Energy dissipation systems increase the energy dissipation capacity of buildings considerably. In this study, the effect of dampers on a typical 10-storey reinforced concrete structure with a ductile moment-resisting frame was investigated. In this context, 5 different models were created according to the calculation of the slip load and the positions of the dampers in the structure. Nonlinear time-history analyzes using 11 different earthquake acceleration records were performed on the models using the ETABS program. As a result of the analyses, storey displacements, energy dissipation ratios, drift ratios, storey accelerations, storey shears, and hysteretic curves of the dampers on the first and last storey and overturning moments are presented. In the study, it was determined that friction dampers increased the energy dissipation capacities of all models. In addition, it has been determined that positioning the dampers in the outer region of the structures and taking the base shear as a basis in the slip load calculation will be more effective.
This paper presented the results of cyclic loading tests of 7 full-scale beams to column subassemblages with improved connection detail i.e., fillets of the stiffening plates at the column corners and ends of the stiffener-to-beam flange weld. Major findings from the test results were: (1) Fillets reduced the stress concentrations that may cause early brittle fractures and considerably improved the cyclic performance compared to the detail without fillets. (2) As the width of the stiffening plate increased, the stiffness and peak strength increased and energy dissipation capacity decreased. (3) While all specimens failed by a fracture, they could develop a total rotation of 0.04 radian required for special moment resisting frames.
This paper presents a new strength method of underground box structures under additional surface load. An L-bracing using pre-flexed steel member threads called the "Pre-flex strength method" is used to improve capacity of the RC box structure under earth pressure due to additional surface load. The pre-flexed steel member is fixed the top and bottom of the structure after chemical anchor was installed by drilling hole on the box structure. The structural performance was evaluated analytically. 3 types of underground RC box structure were used; $2.0m{\times}2.0m$, $3.0m{\times}3.0m$ and $4.0m{\times}4.0m$. For the performance evaluation, structure analysis were performed on moment and shear resisting structures with and without pre-flex strength method. Numerical results confirmed that the proposed strength member system installed on underground RC box structures enhanced the strength capacity. The feasible region of the proposed pre-flex strength method in accordance with the earth pressure due to additional surface depth was evaluated.
Plastic deformation of link beams in eccentrically braced frames is the primary dissipating source of seismic energy. Despite the excellent compatibility with the architectural designs, previous researches indicate the deficiency of flexural yielding links compared to the shear yielding ones because of their localized plastic deformation. Previous investigations have shown that implementing web openings in beams could be an efficient method to improve the seismic performance of moment-resisting connections. Accordingly, this research investigates the use of flexural links with stiffened and un-stiffened web openings to eliminate localized plasticity at the ends of the link. For this purpose, the numerical models are generated in finite element software "Abaqus" and verified against experimental data gathered from other studies. Models are subjected to cyclic displacement history to evaluate their behavior. Failure of the numerical models under cyclic loading is simulated using a micromechanical based damage model known as Cyclic Void Growth Model (CVGM). The elastic stiffness and the strength-based and CVGM-based inelastic rotation capacity of the links are compared to evaluate the studied models' seismic response. The results of this investigation indicate that some of the flexural links with edge stiffened web openings show increased inelastic rotation capacity compared to an un-perforated link.

Progressive collapse is defined as a collapse caused by sectional destruction of a structural member which links to other surrounding structures. Currently the design guidelines for the prevention of progressive collapse is not available in Korea. So, structural engineers have a difficulty in evaluating progressive collapse. In this study, the static and dynamic analysis to evaluate the methods and procedures are conducted using commercial analysis program for RC moment resisting frames. According to the study, DCR value of RC moment resisting frame system based on code in Korea is over 2 and it shows that it can't provide alternate load paths due to the progressive collapse. And additional reinforcement should be considered for the progressive collapse resistance. As a result of vertical deflection and DCR value of linear static analysis and linear dynamic analysis, the results of dynamic analysis were underestimated more than the result of static analysis. Thus, the dynamic coefficient value of 2 provides conservative estimation.
