This study proposes a new topology for the performance test of a valve consisting of a modular multilevel converter (MMC)-based static synchronous compensator (STATCOM). The conventional valve performance test equipment requires high-voltage AC source of several kV rating because the number of submodules to be tested in a valve should be at least six or eight. However, the power source of the proposed scheme is DC and not AC source. The DC power source voltage range of the proposed test circuit is from several volts to several tens of volts. Therefore, the size and cost for the performance test equipment can be reduced considerably compared with the conventional method. The proposed scheme satisfies the requirements of the IEC 62927 standard. Simulations are conducted for a valve of 50[MVA] MMC-based STATCOM. Experimental results with a scale-downed setup show the validity of the proposed performance test topology.

Purpose: This study evaluated the long term clinical and radiographic results and the survival rates of unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA). In addition, the factors affecting the survival of the procedure were analyzed and the survival curve was compared according to the affecting factors. Materials and Methods: Ninety-nine cases of UKA performed between December 1982 and January 1996 were involved: 10 cases with Modular II, 44 cases with Microloc, and 45 cases with Allegretto prostheses. The mean follow-up period was 16.5 years. Clinically, the hospital for special surgery (HSS) scoring system and the range of motion (ROM) were evaluated. Radiographically, the femorotibial angle (FTA) was measured. The survival rate was analyzed using the Kaplan-Meier method. Cox regression analysis was used to identify the factors affecting the survival according to age, sex, body mass index, preoperative diagnosis, and type of implant. The Kaplan-Meier survival curves were compared according to the factors affecting the survival of UKA. Results: The overall average HSS score and ROM was 57.7 and 134.3° preoperatively, 92.7 and 138.4° at 1 year postoperatively, and 79.1 and 138.4° at the last follow-up (p<0.001, respectively). The overall average FTA was varus 0.8° preoperatively, valgus 4.1° at postoperative 2 weeks, and valgus 3.0° at the last follow-up. The overall 5-, 10-, 15- and 20-year survival rates were 91.8%, 82.9%, 71.0%, and 67.0%, respectively. The factors affecting the survival were the age and type of implant. The risk of the failure decreased with age (hazard ratio=0.933). The Microloc group was more hazardous than the other prostheses (hazard ratio=0.202, 0.430, respectively). The survival curve in the patients below 60 years of age was significantly lower than those of the patients over 60 years of age (p=0.003); the survival curve of the Microloc group was lower compared to the Modular II and Allegretto groups (p=0.025). Conclusion: The long-term clinical and radiographic results and survival of UKA using old fixed bearing prostheses were satisfactory. The selection of appropriate patient and prosthesis will be important for the long term survival of the UKA procedure.

During the last decade, security models have been defined for two- and three-parity key exchange protocols. Currently there is a growing research interest in security models for group key management schemes. While various security models and provably secure protocols have been proposed for distributed group key exchange schemes, no results are hewn for centralized group key distribution schemes in spite of their theoretical and practical importance. We describe security requirements and a formal security model for centralized group key distribution scheme: we define the model on the channel controlled by adversaries with the ability of strong user corruption. In the security model, we propose a conversion module which can transform centralized tree-based group key distribution schemes in the literature to provably secure centralized tree-based group key distribution schemes.

Secure and reliable group communication is an increasingly active research area prompted by the growing popularity of many types of group-oriented and collaborative applications. The central challenge is secure and efficient group key management. While centralized methods are often appropriate for key distribution in large multicast-style groups, many collaborative group settings require distributed key agreement techniques. Most of prior group key agreement protocols have been focused on reducing the computational costs. One exception is STR protocol that optimizes communicational cost. On the other hand, it requires O(n) number of modular exponentiations. In this paper, we propose a new group key agreement protocol that modifies STR protocol by utilizing pairing based cryptography. The resulting protocol reduces computational cost of STR protocol while preserving the communication cost.
Recently, embedded systems such as aircraft and automobilie, are developed as modular architecture instead of federated architecture because of SWaP(Size, Weight and Power) issues. In addition, partition operating system that support multiple logical node based on partition concept were recently appeared. Distributed recovery block is fault tolerance design scheme that applicable to mission critical real-time system to support real-time take over via real-time synchronization between participated nodes. Because of real-time synchronization, single-core based computer is not suitable for partition based distributed recovery block design scheme. Multi-core and AMP(Asymmetric Multi-Processing) based partition architecture is required to apply distributed recovery block design scheme. In this paper, we proposed design scheme of distributed recovery block on the multi-core based supervised-AMP architecture partition operating system. This paper implements flight control simulator for avionics to check feasibility of our design scheme.

The pikromycin biosynthetic system in Streptomyces venezuleae is unique for its ability to produce two groups of antibiotics that include the 12-membered ring macrolides methymycin and neomethymycin, and the 14-membered ring macrolides narbomycin and pikromycin. The metabolic pathway also contains two post polyketide-modification enzymes, a glycosyltransferase and P450 hydroxylase that have unusually broad substrate specificities. In order to explore further the substrate flexibility of these enzymes a series of hybrid polyketide synthases were constructed and their metabolic products characterized. The plasmid-based replacement of the multifunctional protein subunits of the pikromycin PKS in S. venezuelae by the corresponding subunits from heterologous modular PKSs resulted in recombinant strains that produce both 12- and 14-membered ring macrolactones with predicted structural alterations. In all cases, novel macrolactones were produced and further modified by the DesVII glycosyltransferase and PikC hydroxylase leading to biologically active macrolide structures. These results demonstrate that hybrid PKSs in S. venezuelae can produce a multiplicity of new macrolactones that are modified further by the highly flexible DesVII glycosyltransferase and PikC hydroxylase tailoring enzymes. This work demonstrates the unique capacity of the S. venezuelae pikromycin pathway to expand the toolbox of combinatorial biosynthesis and to accelerate the creation of novel biologically active natural products. The polyketide backbone of rifamycin B is assembled through successive condensation and ${\beta}$-carbonyl processing of the extender units by the modular rifamycin PKS. The eighth module, in the RifD protein, contains nonfunctional DH domain and functional KR domain, which specify the reduction of the ${\beta}$-carbonyl group resulting in the C-21 bydroxyl of rifamycin B. A four amino acid substitution and one amino acid deletion were introduced in the putative NADPH binding motif in the proposed KR domain encoded by rifD. This strategy of mutation was based on the amino acid sequences of the corresponding motif of the KR domain of module 3 in the RifA protein, which is believed dysfunctional, so as to introduce a minimum alteration and retain the reading frame intact, yet ensure loss of function. The resulting strain produces linear polyketides, from tetraketide to octaketide, which are also produced by a rifD disrupted mutant as a consequence of premature termination of polyketide assembly. Much of the structural diversity within the polyketide superfamily of natural products is due to the ability of PKSs to vary the reduction level of every other alternate carbon atom in the backbone. Thus, the ability to introduce heterologous reductive segments such as ketoreductase (KR), dehydratase (DH), and enoylreductase (ER) into modules that naturally lack these activities would increase the power of the combinatorial biosynthetic toolbox. The dehydratase domain of module 7 of the rifamycin PKS, which is predicted to be nonfunctional in view of the sequence of the apparent active site, was replaced with its functional homolog from module 7 of rapamycin-producing polyketide synthase. The resulting mutant strain behaved like a rifC disrupted mutant, i.e., it accumulated the heptaketide intermediate and its precursors. This result points out a major difficulty we have encountered with all the Amycolatopsis mediterranei strain containing hybrid polyketide synthases: all the engineered strains prepared so far accumulate a plethora of products derived from the polyketide chain assembly intermediates as major products instead of just analogs of rifamycin B or its ansamycin precursors.
Objectives : The purposes of this preliminary study was to examine the feasibility of recruiting women into a clinical trial designed to examine the effects of acupuncture in treating urinary incontinence (UI) in premenopausal women with delivery history and the feasibility of performing the study procedures. We also tried to determine if there was preliminary evidence to suggest that acupuncture may be effective in reducing UI and improving disease-specific quality of life. Methods : This study was a pragmatic randomized clinical trial. Subjects between the ages of 20 and 49 years were randomly assigned to a treatment(n=11) or control group(n=11) and analyzed. Both groups were supposed to do Kegel exercise at home during 4 weeks and acupuncture was applied to the treatment group twice a week(8 sessions) additionally. Subjects performed 1 hour pad test and completed a 3-day urination diary, international consultation on incontinence modular questionnaire(ICIQ), and incontinence - quality of life(I-QOL) at base line and 5 weeks. Results : Both group showed improvement in 1 hour pad test and the reducing amount of UI was significantly larger in treatment group(p=0.0182). The significant improvements in ICIQ and I-QOL were also observed in treatment group and sustained until the follow-up measurement at 16 weeks. Any adverse reaction related to acupuncture did not happen. Conclusions : It was feasible to recruit subjects and perform the study procedures. The positive results of this study support the requirement for additional research investigating the efficacy of acupuncture in the treatment of UI in women.

In this study, the researcher tried to find out the effect of using a computer interface in teaching speed concept in the elementary school. The 4th and 5th pupils were sampled for this study. The school is located in a sub-urban agricultural area in Korea. In the study, the subjects were divided into two groups: experimental and comparison group. From the pretest, two groups did not show any difference in the understanding of speed concept. The computer interface and the programs to operate the interface and data analysis were developed by researcher. The interface is a modular type and designed ready to connect to microcomputer. The test items were consisted of (1) comparison of speed, (2) change of motion, (3) acceleration, and (4) deceleration. As the result, the researcher found the following results: 1. In case of speed comparison, no significant difference was found between experimental and comparison group. 2. In case of change of motion, acceleration, and deceleration, the experimental groups showed higher achievement both in 4th grade and 5th grade. However, the 4th graders showed more learning than the 5th graders. In conclusion, this study showed that the use of computer interface seemed to be very effective in teaching and learning speed concept in elementary school.
The method of conductor wiring is that a messenger wire is installed, the end of the wire is connected to the conductor and a engine puller pulls the conductor. The length of one section of wiring is $3{\sim}5km$ and one group messenger wire pulls simultaneously $2{\sim}4$ group conductor, while a tensioner maintains wiring tension to prevent the deflection of the conductor. However, there are many obstacles such as roads, power lines, communication lines, buildings, farms and crops. Therefore to prevent damage from conductor deflection a staging is used. The currently used staging is scaffolding lumber which is difficult to secure and it's construction efficiency is very low because it requires a lot of time and manpower. So this study developed a insulating defense tube and pipe connecting device, and a truss structure fabrication module using steel pipe which reduces construction time and cost through a compressive and dielectric strength test.
This paper presents a high performance burnable absorber named as CIMBA (Cylindrically Inserted and Mechanically Separated Burnable Absorber) for the soluble-boron-free SMR. The CIMBA is the cylindrical gadolinia inserted into the annular fuel pellets. Although the CIMBA utilizes the spatial self-shielding effect of the fuel material, a large reactivity upswing occurs when the gadolinia is depleted. To minimize the reactivity swing of the CIMBA-loaded FA, two approaches were investigated. One is controlling the spatial self-shielding effect of the CIMBA as burnup proceeds by a multi-layered structure of the CIMBA (ML-CIMBA) and the other is the mixed-loading of two different types of CIMBA (MIX-CIMBA). Both approaches show promising performances to minimize the reactivity swing, where the MIX-CIMBA is more preferable due to its simpler fabrication process. In conclusion, the MIX-CIMBA is expected to accelerate the commercialization of the CIMBA and can be used to achieve an optimal soluble-boron-free SMR core design.
