  • In this paper, we construct two families $C^*_m$ and ${\~{C}}^*_m$ of ternary ($2^m$, $3^m$, $2^{m-1}$ ) and ($2^m$, $3^{m+1}$, $2^{m-1}$ ) codes, for m = 1, 2, 3, ${\cdots}$, derived from the corresponding families of modified ternary Jacket matrices. These codes are close to the Plotkin bound and have a very easy decoding procedure.

  • This study is to investigate the engineering properties of low heat concrete incorporating improved ternary blended cement by combining OPC(original portland cement), blast furnace slag and fly ash. The results were summarized as following ; For ITB(Improved Ternary Blend)mixture was that setting time proved to be accelerated, and adiabatic temperature rises were low. The use of ITB resulted in an increase of initial compressive strength.

  • Flash points ire used to classify flammable liquids according to their relative flammability. Such a classification is important for the safe handling of flammable liquids which constitute the solvent mixtures. MRSM(modified response surface methodology)-1 and MRSM-2 models we suggested for the prediction of the flash points in the flammable ternary system. By means of this methodology, it is possible to predict the flash points of the flammable mixtures system using computer graphics in the triangular coordinate for the ternary system. The proposed methodology(MRSM) has been tested and compared successfully with previously reported flash points in journal for the ternary system.

  • In this paper, we propose a multiple access scheme using MHP(Modified Hermite Polynomial) pulse and ternary code for high-data and low-data rate for Out-body WBAN(Wireless Body Area Network). To satisfy the requirement of WBAN system, UWB-IR has been considered as a promising candidate for Out-body WBAN. The proposed multiple access scheme, using orthogonal MHP pulse and ternary code sets, reduces multi-user interference and distinguishes user signal from multi-user signals. We propose two algorithms for synchronous and asynchronous WBAN system. The symbol is constructed by MHP pulses and time hopping duration to reduce multi-user interference in the synchronous WBAN system. The symbol also is constructed by ternary code to avoid collision between pulse trains in the asynchronous WBAN system. The results of the proposed multiple access scheme show a clear improvement of BER.

  • For the efficient recognition of Korean characters, a modified ternary phase-only synthetic discriminanty function filter(MTPOF-SDF) is proposed. MTPOF-SDF can not only discriminate the true class patterns and the similar, symmetric, or patially included false ones but also recognize the diverse variations in true class patterns due to combinatorial form as the same ones. And scale and rotation-invariant recognition is achieved. To preserve the features of the characters, phase information should be used. And to contsrol phase information easily, ternary quantization of the phase is preferred. Also low resolution requirement is achieved for compatibility with low resulution devices such as spatial light modulators.

  • PURPOSES : This study is to evaluate ASR(alkali silica reactivity) resistance of ternary blended binder adding ultra fine mineral admixture. METHODS : This study analyzes ASR expansion using ASTM C 1260 and 1567. RESULTS : This study showed that the fineness of mineral admixture had no effect on ASR expansion. The expansion of ternary blended binder(UFFA 20%+FGGBS 10%) were below 0.1%, and this binder met the ASR standard. Also when adding the CSA expansion agent, ASR expansion slightly decreased. The expansion of latex modified mixture increased by 80% comparing plain mixture. CONCLUSIONS : Ternary blended binder met the ASR standard, and this binder is available in concrete bridge deck overlay.

  • Reactive Powder Concrete (RPC) is an ultra high strength and high ductility cement-based composite material and has shown some promise as a new generation concrete in construction field. It is characterized by a silica fume-cement mixture with very low water-binder (w/b) ratio and very dense microstructure, which is formed using various powders such as cement, silica fume and very fine quartz sand (0.15~0.4mm) instead of ordinary coarse aggregate. However, the unit weight of cement in RPC is as high as 900~1,000 kg/㎥ due to the use of very fine sand instead of coarse aggregate, and a large volume of relatively expensive silica fume as a high reactivity pozzolan is also used, which is not produced in Korea and thus must be imported. Since the density of RPC has a heavy weight at 2.5~3.0 g/㎤. In this study, the modified RPC was made by the combination of ternary pozzolanic materials such as blast furnace slag and fly ash, silica fume in order to economically and practically feasible for Korea's situation. The fire resistance and structural behavior of the modified RPC exposed to high temperature were investigated.

  • A frequency selective surface (FSS), whose unit cell consists of a ternary tree loop loaded with a modified tripole, is proposed to block multiple frequency bands. Target frequency bands correspond to Korean personal communication services, cellular mobile communication, and 2.4 GHz industrial, scientific, and medical bands. Through the adjustment of inter-element and inter-unit cell gaps, and adjustment of the length of elements, we present an FSS design method that makes the precise tuning of multiple resonance frequencies possible. Additionally, to verify the validity of our approach, simulation results obtained from a commercial software tool and experimental data are also presented.

  • In the present scenario to fulfill the demands of sustainable construction, concrete made with multi-blended cement system of OPC and different mineral admixtures, is the judicious choice for the construction industry. Silica fume (SF) and fly ash (FA) are the most commonly used mineral admixtures in ternary blend cement systems. Synergy between the contributions of both on the mechanical properties of the concrete is an important factor. This study reports the effect of replacement of OPC by fly ash (20, 30, 40 and 50 % replacement of OPC) and/or silica fume (7 and 10 %) on the mechanical properties of concrete like compressive strength and split tensile strength, with three different w/b ratio of 0.3, 0.4 and 0.45. The results indicate that, as the total replacement level of OPC in concrete using ternary blend of OPC + FA + SF increases, the strength with respect to control mix increases up to certain replacement level and thereafter decreases. If the cement content of control mixes at each w/b ratio is kept constant, then as w/b ratio decreases, higher percentage of OPC can be replaced with FA + SF to get 28 days strength comparable to the control mix. A new method was proposed to find the efficiency factor of SF and FA individually in ternary blend cement system, based on principle of modified Bolomey's equation for predicting compressive strength of concrete using binary blend cement system. Efficiency factor for SF and FA were always higher in ternary blend cement system than their respective binary blend cement system. Split tensile strength of concrete using binary and ternary cement system were higher than OPC for a given compressive strength level.
