  • Operation deflection shapes(ODS) is defined as a motion of structure at particular frequency. The ODS is eligible to show any types of structural motions while the modes supply solutions only to linear and stationary motion. The principal vibration source of an auto teller machine(ATM) case was occurred due to resonance which was found by modal analysis. To reduce the vibration of ATM case, the motion of the case was visualized using ODS analysis, which can suggest how to modify the structure. As a result the vibration of the ATM case was greatly reduced with a stiffening bar between the opposite plates.

  • The identification of modal damping of a segmented hull model with torsional response is difficult task due to the coupling of modal response. This is because the 1st and 2nd torsional vibration modes are closely spaced in frequency domain leading to the situation that the modal decomposition is difficult to achieve by simple band-pass filter. Present study applied several different modal decomposition methods to derive the damping ratio of different modes. The modal decomposition methods considered in this study are simple band-pass filter, Hilbert vibration decomposition, Wavelet transform and proper orthogonal decomposition. Coupled free decay signal obtained from the torsional hammering test on a segmented hull model was processed with four different methods and the derived damping ratios were compared with each other. Discussions also have been made on the pros and cons of the different methodologies.

  • The ceramic filters were developed using technology similar to that of quartz crystal and electromechanical filter. However, the key to this development involved the theoretical analysis of vibration modes and material improvements of piezoelectric ceramics. The primary application of ceramic filters has been for consumer-market use. Accordingly, a major emhpasis has involved mass production technology, leading to low-priced devices. A typical ceramic filter includes monolithic resonators and capacitors packaged in unique configurations. Nakazawa developed a double-mode resonator as two acoustically coupled single resonators. And he developed 10.7MHz crystal filters using multi-energy trapping mode of thickness shear vibration. He succeeded in realizing a two-pole band pass filter response without external inductance by splitting a dot electrode to creat coupled symmetric and antisymmetric vibration modes. Accordingly, the simulation for ceramic filter were important. So that, this paper were investigated the pass frequency of filter on the electrode length and thickness of ceramic.

  • An existing Damage Index Method is verified to demonstrate its feasibility for detecting structural damage in truss bridges (1) for which modal parameters are available for a few modes of vibration and (2) for which baseline modal information is not available from its as-built state. The theory of approach to detect locations of damage and to identify baseline modal model is summarized on the basis of system identification theory and modal sensitivity theory. The feasibility of the Damage Index Method is demonstrated using a numerical example of a truss bridge with 11 subsystems of 211 members and for which only two modes of vibration were recorded for post-damaged state.

  • Active vibration control of laminated composite plates has been carried out to design structure with maximum possible damping capacity, using piezoceramic sensor/actuators and passive constrained-layer damping treatment. The equations of motion are derived for symmetrical, multi-layer laminated plates. The damping ratio(ζ) and modal damping(2ζ$\omega$) of the first bending and torsional modes are calculated by means of iterative complex eigensolution method for both passive and active vibration control. This paper addresses a design strategy of laminated composite plate under structural vibrations.

  • In this paper, a sensitivity analysis technique is presented for performing effective structural optimization of bus system. Design sensitivities are analyzed on natural frequency of bus substructures using super-element. Vibration modes of substructure, which large affect on the global vibration mode of bus B.I.W., are found through the sensitivity analysis using the chain rule. And design variables, which are determined from the sensitivity analysis, are changed through optimum design.

  • Distributed piezoelectric sensor and actuator system has been designed for the active vibration control of shell structure. PVDF is used for the materials of sensor/actuator. To prevent the adverse effect of spillover, distributed modal sensor/actuator system is established. Although shell structure is three-dimensional structure, the PVDF sensor/actuator system can be treated as two-dimensional Finite element programs are developed to consider curved structures having PVDF modal sensor/actuator. The nine-node Mindlin shell element with five nodal degree of freedoms is used for finite element discretization. The electrode patterns and lamination angle of PVDF sensor/actuator are optimized to design the modal sensor/actuator system Genetic algorithm is used for optimization. Sensor is designed to minimize the observation spillover, and actuator is designed to minimize the system energy of the control modes under a given initial condition. Modal sensor/actuator for the first and second modes of singly curved cantilevered shell structure are designed using mentioned methods. Discrete LQG method is used as a control law. Experimental demonstrations of the active vibration control with designed sensor/actuator system have been performed successfully.

  • Nonlinear normal modes(NNMs) is a branch of periodic solution of nonlinear dynamic systems. Determination of stable periodic solution is very important in many engineering applications since the stable periodic solution can be an attractor of such nonlinear systems. Periodic solutions of nonlinear system are usually calculated by perturbation methods and numerical methods. In this study, numerical method is used in order to calculate the NNMs. Iteration of the solution is presented by multiple shooting method and continuation of solution is presented by pseudo-arclength continuation method. The stability of the NNMs is analyzed using Floquet multipliers, and bifurcation points are calculated using indirect method. Proposed analyses are applied to two nonlinear numerical models. In the first numerical model nonlinear spring-mass system is analyzed. In the second numerical model Jeffcott rotor system which has unstable equilibria is analyzed. Numerical simulation results show that the multiple shooting method can be applied to self excited system as well as the typical nonlinear system with stable equilibria.
