  • In order to compute the radiated sound from a vibrating structure, the Rayleigh's integral equation has to be derived from the Helmholtz equation using Green's function. Generally, the surface velocity in the Rayleigh's integral equation uses the root mean square(rms) velocity. The calculation value is too large, because it's not considered cancelation. On the other hand. using the complex velocity, the sound pressure is calculated too small, because it considers that sound is perfectly canceled out. Therefore, this thesis proposes a correction factor(CF) which considers vibration modes and the method by which to calculate the radiating sound pressure. The theoretical results are compared with the experimental values, and the proposed method can be verified with confluence.

  • This paper present as experimental demonstratio of DSP and a sensory actuator that is used to actively control sound transmission/radiation through a vibrating plate. A plane acoustic wave incident on a clamped, thin circular plate was used as a noise source, and a sensory actuator bounded to the plate was used to control and sense vibration of the plate. The sound transmission reduction problem was tranformed as a structural vibration control problem that actively control the structural vibration modes coupled to acoustic modes. The results show that the first structural vibration mode is controlled with a reduction of 78 percent in the displacement and velocity of the plate. This corresponds to a 13dB reduction in the acoustic response. These experimental results indicate that a sensory actuator bounded to the plate can be employed to attenuate the sound transmitted to radiated from the plate.

  • Inerter-based damping devices (IBBDs), which consist of inerter, spring and viscous damper, have been extensively investigated in vehicle suspension systems and demonstrated to be more effective than the traditional control devices with spring and viscous damper only. In the present study, the control performance on cable vibration reduction was studied for four different inerter-based damping devices, namely the parallel-connected viscous mass damper (PVMD), series-connected viscous mass damper (SVMD), tuned inerter dampers (TID) and tuned viscous mass damper (TVMD). Firstly the mechanism of the ball screw inerter is introduced. Then the state-space formulation of the cable-TID system is derived as an example for the cable-IBBDs system. Based on the complex modal analysis, single-mode cable vibration control analysis is conducted for PVMD, SVMD, TID and TVMD, and their optimal parameters and the maximum attainable damping ratios of the cable/damper system are obtained for several specified damper locations and modes in combination by the Nelder-Mead simplex algorithm. Lastly, optimal design of PVMD is developed for multi-mode vibration control of cable, and the results of damping ratio analysis are validated through the forced vibration analysis in a case study by numerical simulation. The results show that all the four inerter-based damping devices significantly outperform the viscous damper for single-mode vibration control. In the case of multi-mode vibration control, PVMD can provide more damping to the first four modes of cable than the viscous damper does, and their maximum control forces under resonant frequency of harmonic forced vibration are nearly the same. The results of this study clearly demonstrate the effectiveness and advantages of PVMD in cable vibration control.

  • The paper describes a theoretical study on the flexural vibration of an elastic rectangular plate with periodically nonuniform material properties. The approximate solution of the natural frequency and mode shape has been obtained using the perturbation technique for sinusoidal modulation of the flexural rigidity and mass density. It has been shown that distributed modes exist in the plate which Is a two-dimensional model of the flat panel speaker.

  • Radiation efficiency of a cylindrical shell whose surface vibrates under harmonic distribution is investigated by theoretical solutions and Boundary Element Method. The vibration modes of a cylindrical shell is determined from experiment and is compared with the result of Finite Element Method. Harmonic vibration response of the cylindrical shell under the point excitation and the radiation phenomena from its response is analyzed by Finite Element Method and Boundary Element Method.

  • In this paper, the vibration for a pickup actuator is described by mathematically analyzing its suspension configuration and motion, confined to lateral and torsional directions of suspensions. In order to prove the accuracy of this result, it is compared to a finite element analysis. Also it is shown that modal frequencies can be modified by changing design parameters in mathematical motion expressions.

  • When the crankshaft of Diesel engine has more than 3 throws which are arranged in a different plane its vibration induces coupled motions especially the coupled torsional and axial vibration. Nowadays the torsional vibration which is influenced rather weak than axial one can be theoretically calculated fairly accurately but theoretical calculation results of the axial vibration which is influenced strongly from torsional vibration is not so good. To get accurate calculation results of axial vibration coupled axial-torsional vibration must be treated. in this investigation coupled effects of vibration of Diesel engine propulsion shafting are analyzed theoretically and some more simple calculation methods are also studied. On this first report effects of coupling on natural frequencies and their modes are mainly studied setting the each mass in 4 degrees of freedom. later this problem may be studied again by setting each mass as 6 degrees of freedom.

  • An electronic initiation system that can support various types of field blasting works has been developed and put into practice. The newly developed equipment called Hanwha Electronic Blasting System (HEBS) II has three basic operation modes of scanning, logging, and tagging, among which the blaster can choose the most suitable one for the specific site conditions. In the present study, the work efficiency of the system in the scanning, logging and tagging modes was compared with that of the previous non-electric detonator. The results were estimated based on the aspects of the ground vibration, fragmentation, and digging time. It was found that the ground vibration, fragmentation, and digging time of the new system were decreased by about 45%, 31%, and 13%, respectively, with respect to the previous system. This result confirms that the new system is very efficient in the scanning, logging and tagging modes under the field conditions.

  • Vortex-induced vibration (VIV) occurs owing to the vortex generated from the back side of the appendages of ships and submarines during operation. Recently, the importance of high-order modes (HOMs) vibration and fatigue failure has become increasingly emphasized by increasing the speed of ships and the size of structures. In addition, predicting the vibration of HOMs is significantly necessary as the VIV becomes stronger in the fast flow speed condition than in the low flow speed condition. This study introduces a methodology according to HOMs hybrid Fluid Structure Interaction (FSI) for predicting the HOMs VIV on the hydrofoils. The HOMs FSI system is verified by comparing the VIV results from the FSI simulation with the experimental results. Finally, the effectiveness of the HOMs FSI is determined by applying the maximum von-Mises stress obtained from the VIV on the hydrofoil to the S-N curve released from Det Norske Veritas (DNV). VIV results from the HOMs FSI include the lock-in characteristics as well as a significant increase of more than 10 times compared with that of low-order modes (LOMs) FSI. In the future works, advanced studies will be required for improving cantilever boundary conditions and the shape of hydrofoils.
