THM analysis for an in situ experiment using FLAC3D-TOUGH2 and an artificial neural network

  • The evaluation of Thermo-Hydro-Mechanical (THM) coupling behavior is important for the development of underground space for various purposes. For a high-level radioactive waste repository excavated in a deep underground rock mass, the accurate prediction of the complex THM behavior is essential for the long-term safety and stability assessment. In order to develop reliable THM analysis techniques effectively, an international cooperation project, Development of Coupled models and their Validation against Experiments (DECOVALEX), was carried out. In DECOVALEX-2015 Task B2, the in situ THM experiment that was conducted at Horonobe Underground Research Laboratory(URL) by Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA), was modeled by the research teams from the participating countries. In this study, a THM coupling technique that combined TOUGH2 and FLAC3D was developed and applied to the THM analysis for the in situ experiment, in which rock, buffer, backfill, sand, and heater were installed. With the assistance of an artificial neural network, the boundary conditions for the experiment could be adequately implemented in the modeling. The thermal, hydraulic, and mechanical results from the modeling were compared with the measurements from the in situ THM experiment. The predicted buffer temperature from the THM modelling was about $10^{\circ}C$ higher than measurement near by the overpack. At the other locations far from the overpack, modelling predicted slightly lower temperature than measurement. Even though the magnitude of pressure from the modeling was different from the measurements, the general trends of the variation with time were found to be similar.

  • This paper presents the optimized approximation of finite element modeling for a complex tool holder spindle using both DOE (Design of Experiment) with Optimal Latin Hypercube (OLH) method and approximation modeling method with Radial Basis Function (RBF) neural network structure. The complex tool holder is used for holding a (milling/drilling) tool of a machine tool. The engineering problem of complex tool holder results from the twisting of spindle of tool holder.   • In this research. we developed Tire Roller Prototype which is operated hydraulic transmission system. For develop the theoretically computer aided system, we practiced the simulation of hydraulic system and dynamic modeling and will compare with the experiment results of Tire Roller Prototype. We conceptualize the new hydraulic system and derive the equations of motion for dynamic analysis. Finally, we will design the controller, which can manage the hydraulic circuit of servo mechanism system. We define new hydraulic system and integrate modeling of Tire Roller through simulation of h\ulcornerdraulic system and design of controller. From above procedure. Hydraulic transmission system characteristics and target performance can be investigated. To follow the required performance, we select the parts of Tire Roller. We manufactured the prototype of Tire Roller, and will install the equipment for experiment.

  • 고속 부하특성을 갖는 장비들이 일반화되면서 탑재형 발전기는 빠른 응답특성을 만족시켜야 한다. 본 논문은 고속 부하용으로 개발된 단극 발전기의 모델링, 시뮬레이션 및 실험 등을 기술한다. 입력 제한기가 있는 단극 발전기의 시뮬레이션 모델이 만들어졌고, 응답특성을 개선하는 최적 이득이 시뮬레이션 및 분석을 통해 결정된다. 최적 이득값을 적용하여 개발된 발전기의 향상된 대역폭 및 안정성이 시뮬레이션과 실험으로 입증되어졌다.

  • Combat Modeling and Simulation (M&S) is significant to decision makers who predict the next direction of wars. Classical methodologies for combat M&S aimed to describe the exact behaviors of combat entities from military doctrines, yet they had a limitation of describing reasonable behaviors of combat entities that did not appear in the doctrines. Hence, this paper proposed a synthesizing modeling methodology for combat entity models considering both 1) the exact behaviors using descriptive modeling and 2) the reasonable behaviors using prescriptive modeling. With the proposed methodology, combat entities can represent a reality for combat actions rather than the classical methodologies. Moreover, the experiment results using the proposed methodology were significantly different from the results using the classical methodologies. Through the analyses of the experiment results, we showed that the reasonable behaviors of combat entities, which are not specified in the doctrines, should be considered in combat M&S.

Modeling Approaches for Dynamic Robust Design Experiment

  • In general, there are three kinds of methods in analyzing dynamic robust design experiment: loss model approach, response function approach, and response model approach. In this talk, we review the three modeling approaches in terms of several criteria in comparison. This talk also generalizes the response model approach based on a generalized linear model. We develop a generalized two-step optimization procedure to substantially reduce the process variance by dampening the effect of both explicit and hidden noise variables. The proposed method provides more reliable results through iterative modeling of the residuals from the fitted response model. The method is compared with three existing approaches in practical examples.

  • 최근 COVID-19 등의 영향으로 온라인 교육에 대한 요구가 급증하고 있다. 공학계열의 온라인 교육에 있어 가장 큰 어려움 중의 하나는 실험관련 교과목을 어떻게 효율적으로 온라인상에서 수행할 수 있느냐는 것이다. 본 연구에서는 전기전자정보통신 분야 교육에서 필수적으로 요구되는 마이크로컨트롤러 응용 학습을 위해 사용할 수 있는 가상실험 시스템 구축을 위해 반드시 필요한 마이크로컨트롤러 기능 모델링에 대해 기술하고, 자바언어로 구현하여 가상 실험에 적용함으로써 그 유용성을 검증하였다.

  • 다공성 매질을 통한 방사성 핵종의 콜로이드에 의한 이동을 실험과 새로운 모델을 도입하여 살펴보았다. 본 실험에서는 기존의 컬럼 슬라이스 방법을 개선하기 위하여 비파괴 스캐닝 시스템을 개발하였다. 이 장치를 이용하여 기존의 방법보다 훨씬 많은 핵종이동에 관한 자료를 측정하였다. 중성자조사를 시킨 진흙 입자와 여기에 방사성 핵종을 흡착시켜 콜로이드 입자를 만들었다. 실험결과 콜로이드 입자의 크기 분포에도 불구하고 콜로이드 여과계수는 2개의 그룹으로 명백히 구분되었다. 이를 모사하기 위하여 2개의 파라미터를 이용한 새로운 모델식이 개발되었고, 모델식은 실험결과를 잘 모사하였다. 흡착된 핵종중 $^{137}$Cs은 주로 콜로이드 형태로 이동하였으나 $^{Sr}$ 은 그렇지 않았다.

  • NASA와 독일 DLR의 Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE)는 편대비행을 하는 두 개의 저궤도 위성을 이용하여 지구중력장을 측정하는 연구이다. 주요 관측 장비는 위성 사이의 거리를 측정하기 위한 초단파 거리측정기와 비중력 가속도를 측정하기 위한 정전기 방식의 3축 가속도계이다. 기본설계 및 허용오차 분석 등에 활용하기 위하여 정밀한 관측기 시뮬레이션 모델을 개발하였는데, 본 논문에서는 이러한 모델링 기법과 이를 적용한 궤도 및 중력장 추정기법에 관해 살펴보았다.

  • 3D modeling of the human body is an integral part of computer graphics. Among them, several studies have been conducted on hair modeling, but there are generally few studies that effectively implement hair and face modeling simultaneously. This study has the originality of providing users with customized face modeling and hair modeling that is different from previous studies. For realistic hair styling, We design and realize hair segmentation using FCN, and we select the most appropriate model through comparing PSPNet, DeepLab V3+, and MobileNet. In this study, we use the open dataset named Figaro1k. Through the analysis of iteration and epoch parameters, we reach the optimized values of them. In addition, we experiment external parameters about the location of the camera, the color of the lighting, and the presence or absence of accessories. And the environmental analysis factors of the avatar maker were set and solutions to problems derived during the analysis process were presented.
