  • The widening pClformnnce gap between processor and memory causes an emergence of the promising architecture, processor-memory (PM) integration In this paper, various design issues for P-M integration are studied, First, an analytical model of the DRAM access time is constructed considering both the bank conflict ratio and the DRAM page hit ratio. Then the points of both the performance improvement and the perfonnance bottle neck are found by the proposed model as designing on-chip DRAM architectures. This paper proposes the new architecture, called the delayed precharge bank architecture, to improve the perfonnance of memory system as increasing the DRAM page hit ratio. This paper also adapts an efficient bank interleaving mechanism to the proposed architecture. This architecture is verified !II he better than the hierarchical multi-bank architecture as well as the conventional bank architecture by executiun driven simulation. Eight SPEC95 benchmarks are used for simulation as changing parameters for the cache architecture, the number of DRAM banks, and the delayed time quantum.

  • The Korean fenestration energy consumption efficiency rating system only considers thermal performance of the heat transfer coefficient (U-value) and airtightness excluding optical characteristics of the solar heat gain coefficient (SHGC). This study analyzed annual heating and cooling energy requirements on the middle floor of apartment by optical and thermal performance of windows to evaluate the suitability of the rating system. One hundred and twenty-eight windows were analyzed using THERM and WINDOW 7.4, and energy simulation for a reference model of an apartment house facing south was performed using TRNSYS 17. The results showed that window performance was the main factor in the heating and cooling load. The heating load of the reference model was 539 kWh to 2,022 kW, and the cooling load was 376 kWh to 1,443 kWh. The coefficient of determination ($R^2$) of the heating and cooling loads driven from the SHGC were 0.7437 and 0.9869, which are more compatible than those from the U-value, 0.0558 and 0.4781. Therefore, it is not reasonable to evaluate the energy performance of windows using only the U-value, and the Korean fenestration energy consumption efficiency rating system requires a new evaluation standard, including SHGC.

  • With the development of the big data environment, public institutions also have been providing big data infrastructures. Public data is one of the typical examples, and numerous applications using public data have been provided. One of the cases is related to the employment insurance. All employers have to make contracts for the employment insurance for all employees to protect the rights. However, there are abundant cases where employers avoid to buy insurances. To overcome these challenges, a data-driven approach is needed; however, there are lacks of methodologies to integrate, manage, and analyze the public data. In this paper, we propose a methodology to build a predictive model for identifying whether employers have made the contracts of employment insurance based on public data. The methodology includes collection, integration, pre-processing, analysis of data and generating prediction models based on process mining and data mining techniques. Also, we verify the methodology with case studies.

  • During the global financial turmoil in 2007-2008, deviation from the covered interest parity (CIP) between the Korean won and US dollar through the foreign exchange swap has escalated in its magnitude beyond 1,000bp in November 2008, and it still persists around 100bp level. In this paper, we examine a newly developed margin based asset pricing model using Kalman filter approach and show that the escalation of the CIP deviation is found to be significantly related to the global dollar funding illiquidity and country-specific funding conditions. Furthermore, we find evidence that the poor funding conditions (or higher margins) are driven by the general money market illiquidity and may lead to higher funding illiquidity, which suggests the reinforcing effects of the liquidity spiral. We also show that the supply of dollar liquidity and improved funding conditions help alleviate the deviations from the parity, however the persistent anomaly is found to be related to the high level of volatility in the FX swap market.

  • The timing characteristics of an ASIC are analyzed based on the propagation delays of each gate and interconnect wire. The gate delay can be modeled using the two-dimensional delay table whose index variables are the input transition time and the output load capacitance. The AWE technique can be adopted as an algorithm to compute the interconnect delay. Since these delays are affected by the interaction to the two-dimensional delay table and the AWE technique. A method to model this effect has been proposed through the effective capacitance and the gate driver model under the assumption of single driving gate. This paper presents a new technique to handle the multiple CMOS gates driving interconnect wire by extending previous approach. This technique has been implemented in C language and applied to several interconnect circuits driven by multiple CMOS gates. In most cases, we found a few tens of speed-up and only a few percents of errors in computing both of gate and interconnect delays, compared to SPICE.

  • Uninterrupted power supply has become indispensable during the maintenance task of active electric power lines as a result of today's highly information-oriented society and increasing demand of electric utilities. This maintenance task has the risk of electric shock and the danger of falling from high place. Therefore it is necessary to realize an autonomous robot system using electro-hydraulic manipulators because hydraulic manipulators have the advantage of electric insulation and power/mass density. Meanwhile an electro-hydraulic manipulator using hydraulic actuators has many nonlinear elements, and its parameter fluctuations are greater than those of an electrically driven manipulator. So it is relatively difficult to realize not only stable contact work but also accurate force control for the autonomous assembly tasks using hydraulic manipulators. In this paper, the robust force control of a 6-link electro-hydraulic manipulator system used in the real maintenance task of active electric lines is examined in detail. A nominal model for the system is obtained from experimental frequency responses of the system, and the deviation of the manipulator system from the nominal model is derived by a multiplicative uncertainty. Robust disturbance observers for force control are designed using this information in an H$\_$$\infty$/ framework, and implemented on the two different setups. Experimental results show that highly robust force tracking by a 6-link electro-hydraulic manipulator could be achieved even if the stiffness of environment and the shape of wall change.

  • In this paper, a hybrid seismic response control (HSRC) system was developed to control bridge behavior caused by the seismic load. It was aimed at optimum vibration control, composed of a rubber bearing of passive type and MR-damper of semi-active type. Its mathematical modeling was driven and applied to a bridge model so as to prove its validity. The bridge model was built for the experiment, a two-span bridge of 8.3 meters in length with the HSRC system put up on it. Then, inflicting the EI Centro seismic load on it, shaking table tests were carried out to confirm the system's validity. The experiments were conducted under the basic structure state (without an MR-damper applied) first, and then under the state with an MR-damper applied. It was also done under the basic structure state with a reinforced rubber bearing applied, then the passive on/off state of the HSRC system, and finally the semi-active state where the control algorithm was applied to the system. From the experiments, it was observed that pounding rather increased when the MR-damper alone was applied, and also that the application of the HSRC system effectively prevented it from occurring. That is, the experiments showed that the system successfully mitigated structural behavior by 70% against the basic structure state, and, further, when control algorithm is applied for the operation of the MR-damper, relative displacement was found to be effectively mitigated by 80%. As a result, the HSRC system was proven to be effective in mitigating responses of the two-span bridge under seismic load.

  • The present study is a basic investigation for systematically proceeding disaster prevention studying the effect of platform screen door in case of fire at the subway station. In the paper, the characteristics of screen door were surveyed and described. The fully closed platform screen door and the island type of subway station were employed for simulation-study. Numerical simulations of fire driven flow at the subway station with platform screen door were performed with commercial fire CFD code. For analyzing of the effect of platform screen door, the fire simulations with and without the platform screen door were compared. For the fire location, the one is located on the platform and the other case on the railway. The Ultrafast model was taken as fire growth scenario. The maximum heat release rate was 10MW. The propagated time of the heat and smoke to stairs was within 4 minute when the fire is located on the platform. However the heat and smoke propagation was block off by screen door when the fire is located on the railway.

  • Background: Ginsenosides have been reported to have many health benefits, including anti-inflammatory effects, and the resolution of inflammation is now considered to be an active process driven by M2-type macrophages. In order to determine whether ginsenosides modulate macrophage phenotypes to reduce inflammation, 11 ginsenosides were studied with respect to macrophage polarization and the resolution of inflammation. Methods: Mouse peritoneal macrophages were polarized into M1 or M2 phenotypes. Reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction, Western blotting, and measurement of nitric oxide (NO) and prostaglandin $E_2$ levels were performed in vitro and in a zymosan-induced peritonitis C57BL/6 mouse model. Results: Ginsenoside $Rg_3$ was identified as a proresolving ginseng compound based on the induction of M2 macrophage polarization. Ginsenoside $Rg_3$ not only induced the expression of arginase-1 (a representative M2 marker gene), but also suppressed M1 marker genes, such as inducible NO synthase, and NO levels. The proresolving activity of ginsenoside $Rg_3$ was also observed in vivo in a zymosan-induced peritonitis model. Ginsenoside $Rg_3$ accelerated the resolution process when administered at peak inflammatory response into the peritoneal cavity. Conclusion: These results suggest that ginsenoside $Rg_3$ induces the M2 polarization of macrophages and accelerates the resolution of inflammation. This finding opens a new avenue in ginseng pharmacology.

  • Most pier performance analysis results for ad-hoc routing protocols have been based upon the model which each node in the network moves independently without restriction. In most real environments, however, it is very common for a group or multiple groups to move under the direction of group leader or group leaders instead of each node's independent movement. This paper presents the performance analysis of routing protocols for mobile ad-hoc network under group mobility environment. The comparative simulations have been made between a table-driven protocol, DSDV, and two on-demand protocols, AODV and DSR, under a group mobility model, RPGM, which is suitable for the practical applications such as military tactical operation. Multiple group movements are also included. The results show that the protocol performances for single group movement are very similar to node independent movement case. However some differences have been observed by varying pause time and connectivity.
