A novel rotor speed estimation method using model reference adaptive control(MRAC) is proposed to improve the performance of a sensorless vector controller. In the proposed method, the stator current is used as the model variable for estimating the speed. In conventional MRAC methods, the relation between the two model errors and the speed estimation error is unclear. In the proposed method, the stator current error is represented as a function of the first degree for the error value in the speed estimation. Therefore, the proposed method can produce a fast speed estimation. The robustness of the rotor flux-based MRAC, back EMF-based MRAC, and proposed MRAC is compared based on a sensitivity function about each error of stator resistance, rotor time constant, mutual inductance. Consequently, the proposed method is much more robust than the conventional methods as regards errors in the mutual inductance, stator resistance. Therefore, the proposed method offers a considerable improvement in the performance of a sensorless vector controller at a low speed. In addition, the superiority of the proposed method and the validity of sensitivity functions were verified by simulation and experiment.
This paper presents a novel switching voltage model and an offset-based pulse width modulation (PWM) scheme for multilevel inverters with unbalanced DC sources. The switching voltage model under a DC voltage imbalance will be formulated in general form for multilevel neutral-point-clamped topologies. Analysis of the reference switching voltages from active and non-active switching voltage components in abc coordinates can enable voltage implementation for an unbalanced DC-source condition. Offset voltage is introduced as an indispensable variable in the switching voltage model for multilevel voltage-source inverters. The PWM performance is controlled through the design of two offset components in a subsequence. One main offset may refer to the common mode voltage, and the other offset restricts its effect on the quality of PWM control in related DC levels. The PWM quality can be improved as the switching loss is reduced in a discontinuous PWM mode by setting the local offset, which is related to the load currents. The validity of the proposed algorithm is verified by experimental results.
Grid Connected inverter is produced current to deliver power to grid. To provide low THD current, LCL filters is effective to filter high frequency component of current output from inverter. To provide sinusoidal waveform, there are many researchers have been proposed several controllers for grid-connected inverter controllers. Synchronous Reference Frame (SRF)-based controller is the most popular methods. SRF-based controller is capable for reducing both of zero-steady state error and phase delay. But SRF based controller is contained cross-coupling components, which generate some difficulties to analyze. In this paper, SRF based controller is analyzed. By applying decoupling control, cross-coupling component is eliminated and single phase model of the system is obtained. Through this single phase model, gain controller is designed. To reduce steady state error, proportional gain is set as high as possible, but it may produce instability. To compromise between a minimum steady state error and stability, the single phase model is evaluate through Root Locus and Bode diagram. PSIM simulation is used to verify the analysis.
In this paper, a redesigned guidance and control system for a lunar lander is presented. In past studies, the authors developed a trajectory and attitude control system which achieves the vertical soft landing on the lunar surface. It is confirmed that the system has a good tracking ability to a predefined profile and good robustness against a thruster failure mode where a partial failure of clustered engines was assumed. However, under the previous control laws, the landing point tends to be shifted, in response to the system parameter values, from a target point. Also, an unbalanced moment due to a thruster failure mode was not considered in the simulation. Therefore, in this study, the downrange control is added to the system to enable the vehicle to land at a pre-assigned target point accurately. Furthermore, inhibiting the effect of the unbalanced moment is attempted thorough redesigning the attitude control system. A numerical simulation was performed to confirm the ability of the proposed system with regard to the above problems. Moreover, in the past simulations, a low initial altitude was assumed as an initial condition: in this study, however, the performance of the proposed system is examined over the whole trajectory from an initial altitude of 10 [km] to the lunar surface.
In this paper, Simple Adaptive Control (SAC) is used to enhance the seismic response of nonlinear tall buildings based on acceleration feedback. Semi-active MR dampers are employed as control actuator due to their reliability and well-known dynamic models. Acceleration feedback is used because of availability, cost-efficiency and reliable measurements of acceleration sensors. However, using acceleration feedback in the control loop causes the structure not to apparently meet some requirements of the SAC algorithm. In addition to defining an appropriate SAC reference model and using inherently stable MR dampers, a modification in the original structure of the SAC is proposed in order to improve its adaptability to the situation in which the plant does not satisfy the algorithm's stability requirements. To investigate the performance of the developed control system, a numerical study is conducted on the benchmark 20-story nonlinear building and the responses of the SAC-controlled structure are compared to an $H_2/LQG$ clipped-optimal controller under the effect of different seismic excitations. As indicated by the results, SAC controller effectively reduces the story drifts and hence the seismically-induced damage throughout the structural members despite its simplicity, independence of structural parameters and while using fewer number of dampers in contrast with the $H_2/LQG$ clipped-optimal controller.
In this paper, we propose a wavelet based fuzzy neural network(WFNN) based direct adaptive control scheme for the solution of the tracking problem of mobile robots. To design a controller, we present a WFNN structure that merges advantages of neural network, fuzzy model and wavelet transform. The basic idea of our WFNN structure is to realize the process of fuzzy reasoning of wavelet fuzzy system by the structure of a neural network and to make the parameters of fuzzy reasoning be expressed by the connection weights of a neural network. In our control system, the control signals are directly obtained to minimize the difference between the reference track and the pose of mobile robot using the gradient descent(GD) method. In addition, an approach that uses adaptive learning rates for the training of WFNN controller is driven via a Lyapunov stability analysis to guarantee the fast convergence, that is, learning rates are adaptively determined to rapidly minimize the state errors of a mobile robot. Finally, to evaluate the performance of the proposed direct adaptive control system using the WFNN controller, we compare the control performance of the WFNN controller with those of the FNN, the WNN and the WFM controllers.

In this paper, we describe a new approach to perform real-time implementation of an robust controller for robotic manipulator based on digital signal processors in this paper. The Texas Instruments DSPs chips are used in implementing real-time adaptive control algorithms to provide enhanced motion control performance for dual-arm robotic manipulators. In the proposed scheme, adaptation laws are derived from model reference adaptive control principle based on the improved direct Lyapunov method. The proposed adaptive controller consists of an adaptive feed-forward and feedback controller and time-varying auxiliary controller elements. The proposed control scheme is simple in structure, fast in computation, and suitable for real-time control. Moreover, this scheme does not require any accurate dynamic modeling, nor values of manipulator parameters and payload. Performance of the proposed adaptive controller is illustrated by simulation and experimental results for robot manipulator consisting of dual arm with eight degrees of freedom at the joint space and cartesian space.

A number of techniques have been developed for estimation of speed or position in motor drives. The accuracy of these techniques is affected by the variation of motor parameters such as the stator resistance, stator inductance or torque constant. This paper is proposed a neural network based estimator for torque and stator resistance in IPMSM Drives. The neural weights are initially chosen randomly and a model reference algorithm adjusts those weights to give the optimum estimations. The neural network estimator is able to track the varying parameters quite accurately at different speeds with consistent performance. The neural network parameter estimator has been applied to slot and flux linkage torque ripple minimization of the IPMSM. The validity of the proposed parameter estimator is confirmed by the operating characteristics controlled by neural networks control.

This study is to develop and evaluate an AFS and an ARS controllers to enhance lateral stability of a vehicle. A sliding mode control (SMC) and a fuzzy logic control (FLC) methods are applied to calculate the desired additional steering angle of AFS equipped vehicle or desired rear steer angle of ARS equipped vehicle. To validate AFS and ARS systems, an eight degree of freedom, nonlinear vehicle model and an ABS controllers are also used. Several road conditions are used to test the performances. The results showed that the yaw rate of the AFS and the ARS vehicle followed the reference yaw rate very well within the adhesion limit. However, the AFS improves the lateral stability near the limit compared with the ARS. Because the SMC and the FLC show similar vehicle responses, performance discrimination is small. On split-${\mu}$ road, the AFS and the ARS vehicle had enhanced the lateral stability.

Background: Associations between Arg399Gln, Arg194Trp and Arg280His polymorphisms of the XRCC1 gene and risk of differentiated thyroid carcinoma (DTC) have been widely studied but the findings are contradictory. Methods: We performed a meta-analysis in the present study using STATA 11.0 software to clarify any associations. Electronic literature databases and reference lists of relevant articles revealed a total of 10, 6 and 6 published studies for the Arg399Gln, Arg194Trp and Arg280His polymorphisms, respectively. Results: No significant associations were observed between Arg399Gln and DTC risk in all genetic models within the overall and subgroup meta-analyses, while the Trp/Trp vs Arg/Arg and recessive model of the Arg194Trp polymorphism was associated with DTC susceptibility, and the dominant model of Arg280His polymorphism contributed to DTC susceptibility in Caucasians. Conclusions: Our meta-analysis suggests that XRCC1 Arg194Trp may be a risk factor for DTC development.
