  • A new approach which combines implicit surface scheme and recursive subdivision method is suggested in order to fill the holes with complex shapes in the polygon model. In the method, a base surface is constructed by creating smooth implicit surface from the points selected in the neighborhood of holes. In order to assure C$^1$ continuity between the newly generated surface and the original polygon model, offset points of same number as the selected points are used as the augmented constraint conditions in the calculation of implicit surface. In this paper the well-known recursive subdivision method is used in order to generate the triangular net with good quality using the hole boundary curve and generated base implicit surface. An efficient anisotropic smoothing algorithm is introduced to eliminate the unwanted noise data and improve the quality of polygon model. The effectiveness and validity of the proposed method are demonstrated by performing numerical experiments for the various types of holes and polygon model.

  • In gasoline direct injection injectors, cavitation can be generated inside the hole because of their high injection pressure. In this paper, the effects of cavitation development in injector were investigated depending on the various hole drilling angles were investigated by a numerical method. In order to verify the internal flow model, injection rate and injection quantity of individual holes were measured. The BOSCH long tube method was used to measure the injection rate. As a result, even if the hole diameters were the same, the discharge coefficient differed by up to 10% depending on the hole angle. Moreover, if the hole drilling angle became greater than 30°, the area coefficient and the discharge coefficient decreased as the nozzle outlet was blocked due to cavitation.

  • Electric discharge machining drill (EDM-drill) is an efficient process for the fabrication of micro-diameter deep metal hole. As there is non-physical contact between tool (electrode) and workpiece, EDM-drill is widely used to machine the hard machining materials such as high strength steel, cemented carbide, titanium alloys. The electro-thermal energy forces the electrode to wear out together with the workpiece to be machined. The electrode wear occurs inside of a machining hole. and It causes hard to monitor the machining state, which leads the productivity and the quality to decrease. Thus, this study presents a methodology to estimated the electrode wear amount while two coefficients (scale factor and shape factor) of the logarithmic regression model are evaluated from the experiment result. To increase the accuracy of estimation model, the linear transformation method is adopted using the differences of initial electrode wear differences. The estimation model is verified through experiment. The experimental result shows that within minute error, the estimation model is able to predict accurately.

  • An approximate molecular theory of classical fluids based on the nonrandom lattice statistical-mechanical theory is presented. To obtain configurational Helmholtz free energy and equation of state (EOS), the lattice-hole theory of the Guggenheim combinatorics is approximated by introducing the nonrandom two-fluid theory. The approximate nature in the derivation makes the model possible to unify the classical lattice-hole theory and to describe correctly the configurational properties of real fluids including macromolecules. The theory requires only two molecular parameters for a pure fluid. Results obtained to date have demonstrated that the model correlates quantitatively the first- and second-order thermodynamic properties of real fluids. The basic simplicity of the model can readily be generalized to multicomponent systems. The model is especially relevant to (multi) phase equilibria of systems containing molecularly complex species.

  • This paper is a study on the development of an artificial intelligence model that recognizes a hole cup on a golf green. A CNN-based object detection algorithm was used to recognize the hole cup on the green. Also, Apple's CreateML was used to create a model of the object detection algorithm. This paper created a JSON file with 120 training images and annotations to meet the needs of CreateML. In addition, for more accurate learning, data amplification algorithm was used for learning data and 288 learning data were used for learning. By changing the Iterations, Batch size, and Grid size required by CreateML, we found parameter values that improve the performance of the model. A prototype app was developed by applying the developed model, and performance was measured on an actual golf course green using the prototype app. As a result of the measurement, it was found that the hole cup was accurately recognized within 10m, which is the typical golfer's putting distance.

  • To propose a useful modelling method for an actual muffler, the noise attenuation effects of muffler was investigated according to the flow condition and the hole shape of tubes. In this work, the finite element method was used to calculate the transmission loss of muffler, The noise attenuation characteristics of four different types of muffler in the hole shape of tubes were compared mutually to find a more simple equivalent model. Analytical results showed that the overall value of transmission loss increases and the peaks of transmission loss curve shift to the low frequency with mean flow for the given muffler, Also the noise attenuation characteristics of the equivalent model having the split holes is almost the same as those of the actual muffler having many circular holes.

  • Fracture behavior of carbon/epoxy laminates under pin loading is studied experimentally and analytically. Effects of ratios of specimen width to hole diameter and edge distance to hole diameter on bearing strength are investigated. Characteristic length of the laminates obtained using HK model has good agreement with the experimental data. The larger hole size induced, the lower bearing strength is measured under pin loading . The bearing strength and failure mode could be predicted using HK model and Zhangs analytical solution of stress distribution around a pin loaded hole. Chamis' prediction method of bearing strength is also considered to predict failure mode and bearing strength. A modification of Chamis' method is made using the factor of rupturc. The predicted bearing strength by the modified method is reasonably close to the experimental data.

  • The objective of this study is to investigate the effect of multi-hole nozzle on the performance of small CRDI engine. Combustion and exhaust emission characteristics of engine were studied by using CFD simulation with ECFM-3Z combustion model. The conditions of simulation were varied with nozzle geometry, injection timing and injection quantity. In addition, the results were compared in terms of combustion pressure, rate of heat release, $NO_x$ and soot emissions. It was found that combustion pressure was increased when injection timing was advanced. The rate of heat release of 6 hole nozzle was higher than that of 12 hole nozzle since the quantity of fuel impinged at the bottom of piston rim was different under different injection timing conditions. In the case of $NO_x$ emission, 6 hole nozzle generated more $NO_x$ emission than 12 hole nozzle. On the other hand, in the case of soot emission, 12 hole nozzle showed higher value than 6 hole nozzle because injected fuel droplets from multi-hole nozzle were coalesced.

  • For measuring friction-factor of artificially-roughened surfaces which are usually applied on damper seals, flat plate test apparatus is designed and fabricated. the measurement of leakage and pressure distribution through round-hole pattern specimen with different hole area is described and a method is discussed for determining the friction-factor experimentally. Results show that the friction-factor of the round-hole pattern surfaces is bigger than that of smooth surface and increases as increasing the hole area. A empirical friction factor model for round-hole pattern surface is defined as the Moody's friction factor formula.
