  • In this paper, stress analyses using shell and solid elements on weld zone of railway bogie frame were performed. To calculate stress distribution on weld zone, a coupling model using shell and solid elements was suggested. For this purpose, we performed specimen analyses on T-type solid and shell model of T-type panels which were modeled using shell elements, solid elements and coupled elements, respectively. The result showed that the stress concentration at weld zone was occurred in solid model, but it didn't occur in shell model. And the stress distribution of coupled model was similar to that of solid model. Also, we applied the coupled modeling method on the analysis on weld zone of bogie frame. The stress distribution of coupled model showed much higher compared to that of shell only model. Therefore, the coupled model method is highly recommended for the stress analysis in weld zone of bogie frame.

  • Korean morphological analyzer generally generates multiple candidates, and then selects the most likely one among multiple candidates. As the number of candidates increases, the chance that the correctly analyzed candidate is included in the candidate list also grows. This process, however, increases ambiguity and then deteriorates the performance. In this paper, we propose a new rule-based model that produces one best analysis. The analysis rules are automatically extracted from large amount of Part-of-Speech tagged corpus, and the proposed model does not require any manual construction cost of analysis rules, and has shown high success rate of analysis. Futhermore, the proposed model can reduce the ambiguities and computational complexities in the candidate selection phase because the model produces one analysis when it can successfully analyze the given word. By combining the conventional probability-based model. the model can also improve the performance of analysis when it does not produce a successful analysis.

  • Traditionally, sib-pair linkage analysis with repeated measures has employed linear mixed models, but it suffers from the lack of power to find genetic marker loci associated with a phenotype of interest. In this paper, we use a gamma mixed model to improve sib-pair linkage analysis and compare it with a linear mixed model in terms of power and Type I error. We illustrate that the use of gamma mixed model can achieve higher power than linear mixed model with Genetic Analysis Workshop 13 data.

  • This article provides a discussion of the mathematic modeling of connections for designing and qualifying structures, systems, and components subject to monotonic or cyclic loading. To characterize the force-deformation behavior of connections under monotonic loading, a review of the Ramberg-Osgood, Richard-Abbott, and Menegotto-Pinto models is conducted, and it is shown that these nonlinear functions can be mathematically derived by scaling up or down a linear force-deformation function. A generalized four-parameter model for simulating connection behavior is investigated to facilitate nonlinear regression analysis. In order to perform seismic analysis of frameworks, a hysteretic model accounting for loading, unloading, and reloading is described using the established monotonic model. For preliminary analysis, a method is provided to quickly determine the model parameters that fit approximately with the observed data. To reach more accurate values of the parameters, the methods of nonlinear regression analysis are investigated and the modified Levenberg-Marquardt and separable nonlinear least-square algorithms are applied in determining the model parameters. Example case studies illustrate the procedure for the computation through the use of experimental/analytical data taken form the literature. Transformation of connection curves from the three-parameter model to the four-parameter model for structural analysis is conducted based on the modeling of connections subject to fire.

  • So far, the generation of a hull structural analysis model, that is, a finite element model of a hull structure, has been manually performed by a designer using design experience, and thus has required lots of time because of many constraints, the complexity, and the huge size of the hull structure. To make this task automatic, an algorithm for generating the hull structural analysis model is developed using the seam information of the hull structure. A generating system of the hull structural analysis model is implemented based on the developed algorithm. The applicability of the developed algorithm is demonstrated by applying it to the generation of the global and hold structural analysis models of a deadweight 300,000 ton VLCC (Very Large Crude oil Carrier). The results show that the developed algorithm can quickly generate these models at the initial design stage.

  • The recent earthquake in Korea caused a lot of damage to reinforced concrete (RC) columns with non-seismic details. The nonlinear analysis enables predicting the hysteresis behavior of RC columns under earthquakes, but the analytical model used for the columns must be accurate and practical. This paper studied the nonlinear analysis models built into a commercial structural analysis program for the existing RC columns. The load-displacement relationships, maximum strength, initial stiffness, and energy dissipation predicted by the three analysis models were compared and analyzed. The results were similar to those tested in the order of the fiber, Pivot, and Takeda models, whereas the fiber model took the most time to build. For columns subjected to axial load, the Pivot model could predict the behavior at a similar level to that of the fiber model. Based on the above, it is expected that the Pivot model can be applied most practically for existing RC columns.

  • In order to provide theoretical analysis for the active roll stabilizer (ARS), the simulation model based on AMESim is developed in the paper. The simplified vehicle rolling motion model is derived firstly, and then the entire ARS control system model is constructed. Furthermore, the simulation is implemented to confirm the roll control effect. The simulation results show that the derived model can be used as theoretical analysis for developing components of ARS control system.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the characteristics of hydraulic behavior of the natural channel flow according to the temporal classification mode, and thus propose the hydraulic analysis method for future channel design. For analysis, the temporal flow characteristics of the channel section was divided into the steady flow and the unsteady flow. For hydraulic analysis, the HEC-RAS model, which is a one-dimensional numerical analysis model, and the SMS-RAM2 model, which is a two-dimensional model, were used and the factors used for analysis of hydraulic characteristics were flood elevation and flow rate. The flow state was analyzed on the basis of the one-dimensional steady flow and unsteady flow for review. In the unsteady flow analysis the flow rate changed by $(-)0.16%{\sim}(+)0.26%$, and the flood elevation varied by $(-)0.35%{\sim}(+)0.51%$ as compared to the values in the steady flow analysis. Given these results, in the one-dimensional flow analysis based on the unsteady flow the flood elevation and flow rate were greater than when the analysis was done on the basis of the steady flow. The flow state was analyzed on the basis of the two-dimensional steady flow and unsteady flow. In the unsteady flow analysis the flow rate varied by $(-)0.16%{\sim}(+)1.08%$, and the flood elevation changed by $(-)0.24%{\sim}(+)0.41%$ as compared to the values in the steady flow analysis. Given these analysis results, in the two dimensional flow analysis based on the unsteady flow, the flood elevation and flow rate were greater than when the analysis was done on the basis of the steady flow.

  • Product line analysis is an activity for analyzing requirements, their relationships, and constraints in a product line before engineering product line assets (e.g., architectures and components). A feature-oriented commonality and variability analysis (called feature modeling) has been considered an essential part of product line analysis. Commonality and variability analysis, although critical, is not sufficient to develop reusable and adaptable product line assets. Dependencies among features and feature binding time also have significant influences on the design of product line assets. In this paper. we propose a feature-oriented product line analysis model that extends the existing feature model in terms of three aspects (i.e., feature commonality and variability, feature dependency, and feature binding time). To validate the consistency among the three aspects we formally define the feature-oriented product line analysis model and provide rules for checking consistency.

  • In this study, the side doors of mid-size sedan vehicles of models A and B which are currently prone to rollover accidents are compared with each other by the structural analyses. As a result of the structural analysis, both models showed the maximum deformation at the point of overturning or impact load, and the model A of the two models was able to withstand greater impact load compared to the model B. In addition, the maximum stress happened at the door edge, and model B was 2.5 times more stressed than model A. In the accident of a crash, model A, which has the smaller maximum stress, is able to withstand greater impact loads than model B. Since model B has a larger deformation than model A, it is considered to be more dangerous than model A in the side impact accident. By applying the impact analysis of automotive side door by the class of vehicle, the study result at this paper is considered to be favorable as the convergent research material which can apply the aesthetic design.
