The Interpretation of Separation Mechanism of Ridge-Cut Explosive Bolt Using Software Simulation Program

  • The present work have been developed the interpretation processor including the behavior of material failure and the separation phenomena under transient dynamic loading (the operation of explosive bolt) using AUTODYN V4.3, SoildWork 2003 and TrueGrid V2.1 programs. It has been demonstrated that the interpretation in ridge-cut explosive bolt under dynamic loading condition should be necessary to the appropriate failure model and the basic stress of bolt failure is the principal stress. The use of this interpretation processor developing the present work could be extensively helped to design the shape and the amount of explosives in the explosive bolt having a complex geometry. It is also proved that the interpretation processor approach is an accurate and effective analysis technique to evaluate the separation mechanism in explosive bolts.

  • Numerical stability analysis of one-dimensional axial flow in solid rocket motors is performed based on the Euler equation coupled with an unsteady combustion equation of solid propellant. In order to check the numerical scheme, behavior of a standing wave in a closed tube is examined. A standing wave in solid rocket motor decays or grows depending on the total effect of propellant combustion, nozzle flow, and so on. The stability boundary of the fundamental mode standing wave is determined by changing one of the combustion parameters. In addition growth rates of the wave are calculated numerically in relatively low Mach number flow region for the motors with different port and nozzle throat diameters. The results obtained here agree well with the approximate solution. The same scheme is applied to a motor with shorter length and L*-instability is observed.

Numerical analysis of center cracked orthotropic fgm plate: Crack and material axes differ by θ°

  • In this study, fracture analysis of orthotropic FGM (Functionally Graded Material) plate having center crack is performed, numerically. Material axis arbitrarily oriented and there is an angle ${\theta}^{\circ}$ between material and crack axes. Stress intensity factors at the crack tips for Mode I are calculated using Displacement Correlation Method (DCM). In numerical analysis, effects of material properties and variation of angle ${\theta}^{\circ}$ between material and crack axes on the fracture behavior are investigated for four different boundary conditions. Consequently, it is found that the effect of ${\theta}^{\circ}$ on stress intensity factor depends on variation of material properties.

  • Using the finite element method, rail-wheel contact model has been analyzed for mechanical loads due to passengers and payload of the train. This paper presents an investigation on how tapered wheel and inclined rail surfaces affect the contact stress and displacement of rail-wheel contacting surface under mechanical loads. For a numerical analysis, the tapered faces of the wheel are considered as 2.5% and 5.5%. And two models of the tilted rail are also considered as 40:1 and 20:1 at the bottom of the rail. The computed results based on the contact stress and displacement FE analysis indicate that the tilting ratio of the rail, 20:1 with a tapered face of the wheel, 2.5% may be more stable compared to that of 40:1 tilting model and 5.5% tapered wheel face.

  • The ultrafiltration behavior of dilute colloidal solution containing Si particles has been investigated. The experiments in cross flow mode have been performed at different operating condition by using the membrane with 20 kDa cut-off. The flux decline was due to the development of membrane fouling which was a dynamic process of two distinctive stages. For the high trans-membrane pressure, the pore blocking resistance was dominant at the initial period of filtraion and was followed by the cake resistance. And for the low cross flow velocity, the membrane fouling was governed by the cake filtration model at the initial stage of filtration process. Flux jump was observed temporally during the membrane filtration of mixed feed solution.

  • Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer(CFRP) composites are widely applied to strengthen deteriorated concrete structures. This paper presents the experimental results of the performance of reinforced concrete(RC) beams strengthened with Near Surface Mounted T-shape CFRP. Simple beams with 3m span length were tested to investigate the effect of CFRP reinforcement shapes on the flexural behavior of strengthened RC beams. The test results were analyzed with the special emphasis on the failure mode and the maximum load.

  • When concrete is subjected to uniaxial compression, the failure process is normally initialed from a localized zone. The localization of failure governs structural behaviors of concrete. In this paper, the compressive strength and failure behavior of recycled coarse aggregate concrete with different replacement level of recycled coarse aggregates are investigated using acoustic emission(AE). AE characteristics of concrete were investigated during the entire loading period. For these purpose, four recycled coarse aggregate replacement level (i.e 0%, 30%, 60% and 100%) were considered in this paper. Result from this study show AE signal, AE method can apply to investigate a compressive failure mode according to recycled coarse replacement level.

Dynamics of a rotating beam with flexible root and flexible hub

  • A mathematical model for the nonlinear dynamics of a rotating beam with flexible root attached to a rotating hub with elastic foundation is developed. The model is developed based on the large planar and flexural deformation theory and the potential energy method to account for axial shortening due to bending deformation. In addition the exact nonlinear curvature is used in the system potential energy. The Lagrangian dynamics and the assumed mode method is used to derive the nonlinear coupled equations of motion hub rotation, beam tip deflection and hub horizontal and vertical displacements. The derived nonlinear model is simulated numerically and the results are presented and discussed for the effect of root flexibility, hub stiffness, torque type, torque period and excitation frequency and amplitude on the dynamic behavior of the rotating beam-hub and on its stability.

  • This paper proposes the design of micro energy harvesting system by using thermoplastic polyurethane(TPU), which harvests electric energy from the kinetic energy of pedestrian and drives the desired load, and applied it to the self-generating shoes. Also, we designed the buck-boost converter in discontinuous conduction mode(DCM) which functions as a resistor emulator(RE) such that converter's average input current is proportional to input voltage, and it results in transfer of maximum power to buck-boost converter according to control behavior that converter's input resistance is matched with TPU's internal resistance. Therefore, this paper confirms the validity of proposed control scheme and possibility of application for self-generating shoes, from the obtained characteristic of designed micro energy harvesting system by using a TPU and buck-boost converter in DCM.

  • Connection admission decision in ATM networks requires decision made in real time using fast algorithm. It is difficult to construct a model of the multiplexed traffic and thus, approximation of the traffic load is necessary. In this paper, we propose a measurement-based dynamic CAC(Connection admission Control) in ATM(Asynchronous Transfer Mode) networks, which observes current traffic by the moving window and set the window size to the value which is computed from the measured cell loss amount. It is based on the measurements of the traffic load over an admission period that is load enough to reflect the current traffic behavior instead of analytic modeling. And, the dynamic reallocation of bandwidth for each class leads to effective bandwidth utilization. The performance of proposed method is analyzed through computer simulation. The performance of proposed method is analyzed by using SIMAN simulation package and FORTRAN language. As can be seen in the simulation result, cell loss performance and bandwidth utilization have been increased.
