Soil stabilization is a soil remediation technique that reduces the mobility of heavy metals in soils. Although it is a well-established technique, it is nonetheless essential to perform a follow-up chemical assessment via a leaching test to evaluate the immobilization of heavy metals in the soil matrix. Unfortunately, a standard chemical assessment is not sufficient for evaluation of the biological functional state of stabilized soils slated for agricultural use. Therefore, it is useful to employ a pyrosequencing-based microbial community analysis for the purpose. In this study, a recently stabilized site in the proximity of an exhausted mine was analyzed for bacterial diversity, richness, and relative abundance as well as the effect of environmental factors. Based on the Shannon and Chao1 indices and rarefaction curves, the results showed that the stabilized layer exhibited lower bacterial diversity than control soils. The prevalence of dominant bacterial populations was examined in a hierarchical manner. Relatively high abundances of Proteobacteria and Methylobacter tundripaludum were observed in the stabilized soil. In particular, there was substantial abundance of the Methylobacter genus, which is known for its association with heavy metal contamination. The study demonstrated the efficacy of (micro)biological assessment for aiding in the understanding and post-management of stabilized soils.
With the increasing severity of the shortage of highly-skilled IT personnel, more and more attention is being paid to the professional career path and systematic career management of IT employees. Although some studies have been conducted to describe the current status of IT personnel, limited attempts have been made to analyze the career paths or career patterns of IT professionals from a longitudinal perspective. In this context, this study explored the job career patterns of IT professionals in Korea and examined their relationship with subjective and objective career success. To identify job career patterns over time, detailed information about jobs and positions were used and an optimal matching analysis (OMA) was conducted to calculate the dissimilarity matrix between employees' career sequences, while a cluster analysis was used to categorize the meaningful groups based on this dissimilarity data. This analysis revealed that career patterns among Korean IT personnel are more varied than previously thought. These career types have a significant relationship with individual profiles, such as age, education, industry and company size, and account for significant variations in the three main career success variables, i.e. quality of life, assessment of software quality, and wage level. It is expected that the findings of this study will contribute to refining the Korean career path so as to retain IT personnel, and raise the need to improve the low quality of life and poor SW work environment of IT personnel.

In IEEE 802.11p-based wireless access in vehicular environments (WAVE) communication systems, channel estimation (CE) is one of the important issues to provide stable communication service. It is hard to apply conventional CE schemes based on data pilot to real systems, because error propagation occurs in high mobility and modulation order environments, resulting in degrading the CE performance. In this paper, we propose one data pilot using multiple receive antennas (ODPM) CE scheme based on the weighted sum using update matrix (WSUM) with time-domain averaging (TDA) to overcome this problem. Within the process of WSUM-TDA in the proposed scheme, the maximum ratio combining (MRC) technique is applied so as to create more accurate one data pilot. Moreover, a new reliability test criterion is proposed as the fashion of utilizing MRC, which makes it possible to apply selective TDA that guarantees performance improvement. In simulation results, the packet error rate (PER) performance of the proposed ODPM is compared with that of conventional CE methods and its superiority is demonstrated.

The study looked into the type and characteristics of debris landforms in Mt. Mudeung. By focusing on the representative area, we aimed to categorize the debris landforms based on the morphologic and genetic characteristcis. The types of debris areas in Mt. Mudeung can be divided into the exposed debris type, mixed type of matrix, and the boulder-hidden type. Supply of block in the debris slope area displays different features depending on types of rocks. For the stony slopes of andesite, the block must be moved from the columnar joint or cliff in the upper part. The andesite debris slopes display dominant edge shape while displaying no round shape. The granite stony slopes display dominant round shape and the present exposed slope was assumed to be formed as the core stone which was deep weathered moved along slope during the periglacial era and the matrix was removed after post-glacial era. The movements of blocks are assumed to be caused by solifluction process. The joint area where granite and andesite areas meet, granite is located beneath andesite area, and this implies that blocks were actively freezing and creeping by solifluction and freezing and thawing at that time. It can be assumes that the granite matrix formed plain slope and then andesite boulder covered up the slope. Currently, the blocks in the stony slopes of Mt. Mudeung shows almost no mobility and the stony slopes created under periglacial climate can be considered to be fossil landform.
Small lysimeter experiment under rain shelter plastic film house was conducted to investigate the effect of soil characteristics on the leaching and soil solution concentration of nitrate and phosphate. Three soils were obtained from different agricultural sites of Korea: Soil A (mesic family of Typic Dystrudepts), Soil B (mixed, mesic family of Typic Udifluvents), and Soil C (artificially disturbed soils under greenhouse). Organic-C contents were in the order of Soil C ($32.4g\;kg^{-1}$) > Soil B ($15.0g\;kg^{-1}$) > Soil A ($8.1g\;kg^{-1}$). Inorganic-N concentration also differed significantly among soils, decreasing in the order of Soil B > Soil C > Soil A. Degree of P saturation (DPS) of Soil C was 178%, about three and fifteen times of Soil B (38%) and Soil A (6%). Prior to treatment, soils in lysimeters (dia. 300 mm, soil length 450 mm) were tabilized by repeated drying and wetting procedures for two weeks. After urea at $150kg\;N\;ha^{-1}$ and $KH_2PO_4$ at $100kg\;P_2O_5\;ha^{-1}$ were applied on the surface of each soil, total volume of irrigation was 213 mm at seven occasions for 65 days. At 13, 25, 35, 37, and 65 days after treatment, soil solution was sampled using rhizosampler at 10, 20, and 30 cm depth and leachate was sampled by free drain out of lysimeter. The volume of leachate was the highest in Soil C, and followed by the order of Soils A and B, whereas the amount of leached nitrate had a reverse trend, i.e. Soil B > Soil A > Soil C. Soil A and B had a significant increase of the nitrate concentration of soil solution at depth of 10 cm after urea-N treatment, but Soil C did not. High nitrate mobility of Soil B, compared to other soils, is presumably due to relatively high clay content, which could induce high extraction of nitrate of soil matrix by anion exclusion effect and slow rate of water flow. Contrary to Soil B, high organic matter content of Soil C could be responsible for its low mobility of nitrate, inducing preferential flow by water-repellency and rapid immobilization of nitrate by a microbial community. Leached phosphate was detected in Soil C only, and continuously increased with increasing amount of leachate. The phosphate concentration of soil solution in Soil B was much lower than in Soil C, and Soil A was below detection limit ($0.01mg\;L^{-1}$), overall similar to the order of degree of P saturation of soils. Phosphate mobility, therefore, could be largely influenced by degree of P saturation of soils but connect with apparent leaching loss only more than any threshold of P accumulation.

Polymer membranes are cheap and easy in fabrication, and show a high permeability and selectivity, thus play pivotal roles in gas separation as well as water purification. However, polymer membranes typically exhibit the trade-off relation between permeability and selectivity; i.e. when the permeability is high, the selectivity is low and vice versa. Facilitated transport has been considered one of the solutions to address this issue. Over the last decades, facilitated transport concept had played an important role in preparing the membranes and providing ideal and various models for the transport. Understanding the nature of carrier, the mobility of matrix and the physico-chemical properties of polymer composites are crucial for facilitated transport. Depending on the mobility of carrier, facilitated transport membrane is classified into three; mobile carrier membrane, semi-mobile carrier membrane, fixed-site carrier membrane. Also, there are four types of reversible reaction between the carrier and the specific target; proton transfer reaction, nucleophilic addition reaction, p-complexation reaction and electrochemical reaction. The facilitated transport membranes have been applied in the separation of CO2, O2 and olefin (propylene or ethylene). In this review, major challenges surrounding facilitated transport membranes and the strategies to tackle these challenges are given in detail.
In spite of high ionic conductivity, the polymer gels have poor mechanical properties and high reactivity with lithium metal anode. To solve these problems, the dry solid systems and polymer composites have been intensively studied, due to their good mechanical, thermal, chemical, and electrochemical stability. The objectives of this experiment were to improve ionic conductivity and mechanical properties of the solid polymer electrolytes based on PEO-LiClO$_4$. To obtain higher ionic conductivity and better mechanical properties, ceramic or rubber phase was added in the PEO-LiClO$_4$(8:1) matrix. The results showed that ionic conductivity and mechanical properties were improved. The ionic conductivity of the samples was as high as 10$\^$-5/ S cm$\^$-1/. This value is similar to the best ionic conductivity ever reported in the solid drying system. To obtain better results, we used PEO with various molecular weights (600∼8000) and changed the salt contents. By using DSC, we found that the addition of salt reduced the crystallinity of PEO. The mobility of polymer dependence on salt contents was examined by FT-IR.

A novel method of adaptive beam forming is presented in this paper. The proposed technique provides for a suboptimal beam pattern that increases the Signal to Noise/Interference Ratio (SNR/SIR), thus, eventually increases the capacity of the communication channel, under an assumption that the desired signal is dominant compared to each component of interferences at the receiver, which is precoditionally achieved in Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) mobile communications by the chip correlator. The main advantages of the new technique are:(1)The procedure requires neither reference signals nor training period, (2)The signal interchoerency does not affect the performance or complexity of the entire procedure, (3)The number of antennas does not have to be greater than that of the signals of distinct arrival angles, (4)The entire procedure is iterative such that a new suboptimal beam pattern be generated upon the arrival of each new data of which the arrival angle keeps changing due tot he mobility of the signal source, (5)The total amount of computation is tremendously reduced compared to that of most conventional beam forming techniques such that the suboptimal beam pattern be produced at vevery snapshot on a real-time basis. The total computational load for generating a new set of weitht including the update of an N-by-N(N is the number of antenna elements) autocovariance matrix is $0(3N^2 + 12N)$. It can further be reduced down to O(11N) by approximating the matrix with the instantaneous signal vector.

A stoichiometric mixture for $CdIn_2Te_4$ single crystal was prepared from horizontal electric furnace. The $CdIn_2Te_4$ single crystal was grown in the three-stage vertical electric furnace by using Bridgman method. The $CdIn_2Te_4$ single crystal was evaluated to be tetragonal by the power method. The (001) growth plane of oriented $CdIn_2Te_4$ single crystal was confirmed from back-reflection Laue patterns. The carrier density and mobility of $CdIn_2Te_4$ single crystal measured with Hall effect by van der Pauw method are $8.61\times 1016 \textrm {cm}^{-3}$ and 242 $\textrm{cm}^2$/V.s at 293 K, respectively. The temperature dependence of the energy band gap of the $CdIn_2Te_4$ single crystal obtained from the absorption spectra was well described by the Varshni's relation, $1.4750ev - (7.69\times10^{-3})\; ev/k)\;T^2$/(T + 2147k).The crystal field and the spin-orbit splitting energies for the valence band of the $CdIn_2Te_4$ single crystal have been estimated to be 0.2704 eV and 0.1465 eV, respectively, by means of the photocurrent spectra and the Hopfield quasicubic model. These results indicate that the splitting of the $\Delta$so definitely exists in the $\Gamma_7$ states of the valence band of the $CdIn_2Te_4$ single crystal. The three photocurrent peaks observed at 10 K are ascribed to the $A_{1-} B_{1-}$ and Cl-exciton peaks for n = 1.

ZnO has a very large exciton binding energy (60 meV) as well as thermal and chemical stability, which are expected to allow efficient excitonic emission, even at room temperature. ZnO based electronic devices have attracted increasing interest as the backplanes for applications in the next-generation displays, such as active-matrix liquid crystal displays (AMLCDs) and active-matrix organic light emitting diodes (AMOLEDs), and in solid state lighting systems as a substitution for GaN based light emitting diodes (LEDs). Most of these electronic devices employ the electrical behavior of n-type semiconducting active oxides due to the difficulty in obtaining a p-type film with long-term stability and high performance. p-type ZnO films can be produced by substituting group V elements (N, P, and As) for the O sites or group I elements (Li, Na, and K) for Zn sites. However, the achievement of p-type ZnO is a difficult task due to self-compensation induced from intrinsic donor defects, such as O vacancies (Vo) and Zn interstitials ($Zn_i$), or an unintentional extrinsic donor such as H. Phosphorus (P) doped ZnO thin films were grown on c-sapphire substrates by radio frequency magnetron sputtering with various Ar/ $O_2$ gas ratios. Control of the electrical types in the P-doped ZnO films was achieved by varying the gas ratio with out post-annealing. The P-doped ZnO films grown at a Ar/ $O_2$ ratio of 3/1 showed p-type conductivity with a hole concentration and hole mobility of $10^{-17}cm^{-3}$ and $2.5cm^2/V{\cdot}s$, respectively. X-ray diffraction showed that the ZnO (0002) peak shifted to lower angle due to the positioning of $p^{3-}$ ions with a smaller ionic radius in the $O^{2-}$ sites. This indicates that a p-type mechanism was due to the substitutional Po. The low-temperature photoluminescence of the p-type ZnO films showed p-type related neutral acceptor-bound exciton emission. The p-ZnO/n-Si heterojunction LEO showed typical rectification behavior, which confirmed the p-type characteristics of the ZnO films in the as-deposited status, despite the deep-level related electroluminescence emission.
