  • Recently the need for Location-Based Service (LBS) has increased due to the development and widespread use of the mobile devices (e.g., PDAs, cellular phones, labtop computers, GPS, and RFID etc). The core technology of LBS is a moving-objects database that stores and manages the positions of moving objects. To search for information quickly, the database needs to contain an index that supports both real-time position tracking and management of large numbers of updates. As a result, the index requires a structure operating in the main memory for real-time processing and requires a technique to migrate part of the index from the main memory to disk storage (or from disk storage to the main memory) to manage large volumes of data. To satisfy these requirements, this paper suggests a unified index scheme unifying the main memory and the disk as well as migration policies for migrating part of the index from the memory to the disk during a restriction in memory space. Migration policy determines a group of nodes, called the migration subtree, and migrates the group as a unit to reduce disk I/O. This method takes advantage of bulk operations and dynamic clustering. The unified index is created by applying various migration policies. This paper measures and compares the performance of the migration policies using experimental evaluation.

  • The real-time indoor location technology using radio waves has been studied in a variety of environments. One of them, a ship which consists of steel structure has high reception rate but causes significant ranging error due to the reflection of radio waves. In order to reduce location measurement errors that occurs in such a environment, this paper, based on CSS of IEEE 802.15.4a, presents compensation algorithm for localization using modified bilateration and pyroelectric sensor in a ship. The proposed system reduces the number of fixed nodes by estimating the appropriate reception distance between mobile node and fixed node through the analysis of CSS characteristic in a narrow passage such as ship corridors. Also, in the corner section which the ranging errors are significantly fluctuated due to the reflection and diffraction of radio waves, we recognize the location by tracking the a moving section using modified bilateration technique and pyroelectric sensor. The experimental results show that the location accuracy and efficiency of the proposed algorithm are improved 86.2 % compared to general method.

  • Due to the improved performance and cost of personal mobile devices and rapid progress of wireless communication technology, the number of users who utilize these devices is increasing. This trend requires various types of services be available to users. So far, there have been many solutions provided for the shortest path problem. But, technologies which can offer various recommendation services to user depending on user’s current location are focused on Euclidean spaces rather than road network. Thus, in this paper, we extend the previous work to satisfy this requirement on road network database. Our proposed scheme requires pre-computation for the efficient query processing. In the preprocessing step, we first partition the input road network into a fixed number of Voronoi polygons and then pre-compute routing information for each polygon. In the meantime, we select the number of Voronoi polygons in proposition to the scale of road network. Through this selection, the required size of pre-computation is linearly increasing to the size of road network. Using this pre-computated information, we can process queries more quickly. Through experiments, we have shown that our proposed scheme can achieve excellent performance in terms of scheduling time and the number of visited nodes.

  • In this paper, we propose tree-based hybrid query tree architecture utilizing time slot. 4-Bit Pattern Slot Allocation(4-SL) has a 8-ary tree structure and when tag ID responses according to query of the reader, it applies a digital coding method, the Manchester code, in order to extract the location and the number of collided bits. Also, this algorithm can recognize multiple Tags by single query using 4 fixed time slots. The architecture allows the reader to identify 8 tags at the same time by responding 4 time slots utilizing the first bit($[prefix+1]^{th}$, F ${\in}$ {'0' or '1'}) and bit pattern from second ~ third bits($[prefix+2]^{th}{\sim}[prefix+3]^{th}$, $B_2{\in}$ {"00" or "11"}, $B_1{\in}$ {"01" or "10"}) in tag ID. we analyze worst case of the number of query nodes(prefix) in algorithm to extract delay time for recognizing multiple tags. The identification delay time of the proposed algorithm was based on the number of query-responses and query bits, and was calculated by each algorithm.

  • Recently, the need for Location-Based Services (LBS) has increased due to the development of mobile devices, such as PDAs, cellular phones and GPS. As a moving object database that stores and manages the positions of moving objects is the core technology of LBS, the scheme for maintaining the main memory DBMS to the server is necessary to store and process frequent reported positions of moving objects efficiently. However, previous works on a moving object database have studied mostly a disk based moving object index that is not guaranteed to work efficiently in the main memory DBMS because these indexes did not consider characteristics of the main memory. It is necessary to study the main memory index scheme for a moving object database. In this paper, we propose the main memory index scheme based on the R-tree for storing and processing positions of moving objects efficiently in the main memory DBMS. The proposed index scheme, which uses a growing node structure, prevents the splitting cost from increasing by delaying the node splitting when a node overflows. The proposed scheme also improves the search performance by using a MergeAndSplit policy for reducing overlaps between nodes and a LargeDomainNodeSplit policy for reducing a ratio of a domain size occupied by node's MBRs. Our experiments show that the proposed index scheme outperforms the existing index scheme on the maximum 30% for range queries.

  • Recently, with the rapid development of mobile computing, wireless positioning technologies, and the generalization of wireless internet, LBS (Location Based Service) which utilizes location information of moving objects is serving in many fields. In order to serve LBS efficiently, the location data server that periodically stores location data of moving objects is required. Formerly, GIS servers have been used to store location data of moving objects. However, GIS servers are not suitable to store location data of moving objects because it was designed to store static data. Therefore, in this paper, we designed and implemented an extended SLDS(Short-term Location Data Subsystem) for real-time Location Based Services. The extended SLDS is extended from the SLDS which is a subsystem of the GALIS(Gracefully Aging Location Information System) architecture that was proposed as a cluster-based distributed computing system architecture for managing location data of moving objects. The extended SLDS guarantees real-time service capabilities using the TMO(Time-triggered Message-triggered Object) programming scheme and efficiently manages large volume of location data through distributing moving object data over multiple nodes. The extended SLDS also has a little search and update overhead because of managing location data in main memory. In addition, we proved that the extended SLDS stores location data and performs load distribution more efficiently than the original SLDS through the performance evaluation.

  • To improve the efficiency of wireless channel, IEEE 802.11ac uses the DL MU-MIMO MAC scheme through which an AP transmits multiple frames to different mobile nodes simultaneously. IEEE 802.11ac DL MU-MIMO MAC needs a new step, called as TXOP sharing, between legacy IEEE 802.11n DL SU-MIMO's two operations, the obtaining an EDCA TXOP and the transmitting multiple frames for EDCA TXOP. In the TXOP sharing operation, both wireless channel destinations and frames transmitted for its TXOP period should are determined. So this paper deals with the TXOP sharing for improving IEEE 802.11ac MAC performance. However, the EDCA priority based method mentioned by IEEE 802.11ac standard document not fair among the buffers and the frames of buffers, and occurs in high_loss rate and high_delay about specific buffers. In this paper, we propose a new scheme of the TXOP sharing with sequencing p-AC, s-AC in similar properties, and all S-AC. This method provides a differentiated service without damage of EDCA characteristics.

  • This paper analytically evaluates the FEC(Forward Error Correction) symbol size's effect on the performance and energy consumption of 802.11 protocol with the block FEC algorithm over WSN(Wireless Sensor Network). Since the basic recovery unit of block FEC algorithms is symbols not bits, the FEC symbol size affects the packet correction rate even with the same amount of FEC check bits over a given WSN channel. Precisely, when the same amount of FEC check bits are allocated, the small-size symbols are effective over channels with frequent short bursts of propagation errors while the large ones are good at remedying the long rare bursts. To estimate the effect of the FEC symbol site, the paper at first models the WSN channel with Gilbert model based on real packet traces collected over TIP50CM sensor nodes and measures the energy consumed for encoding and decoding the RS (Reed-Solomon) code with various symbol sizes. Based on the WSN channel model and each RS code's energy expenditure, it analytically calculates the transmission efficiency and power consumption of 802.11 equipped with RS code. The computational analysis combined with real experimental data shows that the RS symbol size makes a difference of up to 4.2% in the transmission efficiency and 35% in energy consumption even with the same amount of FEC check bits.

  • The advent of 5G mobile communications, which is expected in 2020, will provide many services such as Internet of Things (IoT) and vehicle-to-infra/vehicle/nomadic (V2X) communication. There are many requirements to realizing these services: reduced latency, high data rate and reliability, and real-time service. In particular, a high level of reliability and delay sensitivity with an increased data rate are very important for M2M, IoT, and Factory 4.0. Around the world, 5G standardization organizations have considered these services and grouped them to finally derive the technical requirements and service scenarios. The first scenario is broadcast services that use a high data rate for multiple cases of sporting events or emergencies. The second scenario is as support for e-Health, car reliability, etc.; the third scenario is related to VR games with delay sensitivity and real-time techniques. Recently, these groups have been forming agreements on the requirements for such scenarios and the target level. Various techniques are being studied to satisfy such requirements and are being discussed in the context of software-defined networking (SDN) as the next-generation network architecture. SDN is being used to standardize ONF and basically refers to a structure that separates signals for the control plane from the packets for the data plane. One of the best examples for low latency and high reliability is an intelligent traffic system (ITS) using V2X. Because a car passes a small cell of the 5G network very rapidly, the messages to be delivered in the event of an emergency have to be transported in a very short time. This is a typical example requiring high delay sensitivity. 5G has to support a high reliability and delay sensitivity requirements for V2X in the field of traffic control. For these reasons, V2X is a major application of critical delay. V2X (vehicle-to-infra/vehicle/nomadic) represents all types of communication methods applicable to road and vehicles. It refers to a connected or networked vehicle. V2X can be divided into three kinds of communications. First is the communication between a vehicle and infrastructure (vehicle-to-infrastructure; V2I). Second is the communication between a vehicle and another vehicle (vehicle-to-vehicle; V2V). Third is the communication between a vehicle and mobile equipment (vehicle-to-nomadic devices; V2N). This will be added in the future in various fields. Because the SDN structure is under consideration as the next-generation network architecture, the SDN architecture is significant. However, the centralized architecture of SDN can be considered as an unfavorable structure for delay-sensitive services because a centralized architecture is needed to communicate with many nodes and provide processing power. Therefore, in the case of emergency V2X communications, delay-related control functions require a tree supporting structure. For such a scenario, the architecture of the network processing the vehicle information is a major variable affecting delay. Because it is difficult to meet the desired level of delay sensitivity with a typical fully centralized SDN structure, research on the optimal size of an SDN for processing information is needed. This study examined the SDN architecture considering the V2X emergency delay requirements of a 5G network in the worst-case scenario and performed a system-level simulation on the speed of the car, radius, and cell tier to derive a range of cells for information transfer in SDN network. In the simulation, because 5G provides a sufficiently high data rate, the information for neighboring vehicle support to the car was assumed to be without errors. Furthermore, the 5G small cell was assumed to have a cell radius of 50-100 m, and the maximum speed of the vehicle was considered to be 30-200 km/h in order to examine the network architecture to minimize the delay.

  • Ad-Hoc network is a network architecture which has no backbone network and is deployed temporarily and rapidly in emergency or war without fixed mobile infrastructures. All communications between network entities are carried in ad-hoc networks over the wireless medium. Due to the radio communications being extremely vulnerable to propagation impairments, connectivity between network nodes is not guaranteed. Therefore, many new algorithms have been studied recently. This study proposes the secondary header approach to the cluster based routing protocol (CBRP). The primary header becomes abnormal status so that the primary header can not participate in the communications between network entities, the secondary header immediately replaces the primary header without selecting process of the new primary header. This improves the routing interruption problem that occurs when a header is moving out from a cluster or in the abnormal status. The performances of proposed algorithm ACBRP(Advanced Cluster Based Routing Protocol) are compared with CBRP. The cost of the primary header reelection of ACBRP is simulated. And results are presented in order to show the effectiveness of the algorithm.
