Developing and Applying Design Principles for Maker Programs Using Virtual Reality : Focusing on the Development of Simulation Application (가상현실 기반 메이커 교육 프로그램 설계원리 개발 및 적용 : 시뮬레이션 앱 구현을 중심으로)

  • The current study aimed to develop the design principles for maker programs using virtual reality and apply them in developing a simulation mobile application. First, through collecting and analyzing the relevant studies and cases eight design principles with four components were derived. Then, these initial design components and principles were revised and improved in accordance with evaluations of an expert panel composed of three professors/researchers, two teachers, and two IT industrial experts. Based on the revised design principles, a VR simulation app for maker education was developed and evaluated on whether the principles were properly applied to the app development by the expert panel. The finalized eight design principles, as a research outcome, can contribute to the design and development of various types of educational programs that can replace the actual making experience even in educational fields where it is difficult to build maker spaces or provide materials and equipment. In the near future, empirical studies are expected to develop customized maker programs considering the characteristics, levels, and needs of students and verify their educational effectiveness.

  • The education applications for English learning have been developing consistently by utilizing the smart-phone owing to the development of internet and ICT. Smart technology based study platform, the mobile learning which enables for the students to study beyond the time and space is expected to bring forth new paradigm of education in tune with the environment change and trends. But it is found that the current applications are mostly the contents patterned for English study institution information with single channel or made for thinking study concept with only the simple language learning once they were checked. Therefore, the understanding on the English study process shall be changed and the study on the platform service is required by accessing in the viewpoint of thinking exercise learning. This study is purposed to explore the scope and strategy of mobile learning UX platform development and suggest the service model via prototype for English study.

  • As the recent development of the ubiquitous computing environment, u-GIS is being highlighted as the core technology of the ubiquitous computing environment, and thereby, studies on spatio-temporal data are being actively conducted. In this u-GIS environment, it is still difficult for existing mobile devices to efficiently manage the massive spatio-temporal data of u-GIS that are increasing day by day. Therefore, this paper develops a spatio-temporal query processing system for mobile devices in order to solve the problem. The system provides various spatio-temporal operators to insert/delete/update/search spatio-temporal data and supports a query optimization function that uses a spatio-temporal index for the flash memory and a spatio-temporal histogram for guaranteeing query execution speed. Lastly, by applying the spatio-temporal query processing system developed in this paper to the virtual scenario, this paper has proved that the system can be utilized in various application fields necessary to process spatio-temporal data in the mobile environment.

  • Currently, a variety of Information and Communication Technology(ICT) is being broadly utilized for mental health. Especially, mobile application is one of the effective ICT, and several applications have been developed after the spread of smartphones. The mobile-based mental health has several strengths, such as better treatment accessibility and easier check-ups of symptoms or daily activities by real-time monitoring. Better follow-ups of treatment course, more customized feedback and better transportability enable patients to be more adherent. However, there are some limitations of mobile technology about the mental health, such as technical troubles of electric errors, data safety problems and personal information extrusion. Therefore, full considerations should be given during the development and provision of the technology. Most of all, mental health specialists should actively participate in the development process by incorporation of evidence-based experiences and assurance of good clinical qualities.

  • In this paper, we implemented the Android NDK porting application with Eclipse(JDK) ADT and TinyOS 2.0. TinyOS and Cygwin are component based embedded system and an Open-source basis for interfacing with sensor application from H-mote. Cygwin is a collection of tools for using the Linux environment for commercially released with x86 32 bit and 64 bit versions of Windows. TinyOS-2. x is a component based embedded OS by UC Berkeley and is an Open-source OS designed for interfacing the sensor application with specific C-language. The results of Android porting experiment are described to show the improvement of sensor interfacing functionality under the PXA320 embedded RTOS platform. We will further more develop the software programming of Android porting under Embedded platform and enhance the functionality of the Android SDK with mobile gaming and kernel programming under sensor interfacing activity.

  • Recently, with the rapid development of android-based smartphones, it is becomes a major security issue that the case of Android platform is an open platform. so it is easy to be a target of mobile virus penetration and hacking. Even there are a variety of security mechanisms to prevent the vulnerable points of the Android platform but the reason of most of the security mechanisms were designed at application-level that highly vulnerable to the attacks directly to the operating system or attacks using the disadvantages of an application's. It is necessary that the complementary of the android platform kernel blocks the kernel vulnerability and the application vulnerability. In this paper, we proposed a secure system using linux-based android kernel applied to LIDS(Linux Intrusion Detection and Defense System) and applied a smart phone with s5pc110 chip. As a result, the unauthorized alteration of the application was prevented with a proposed secure system.

  • It is important to select the correct disinfectants and to use them appropriately in order to prevent the initial spread of highly infectious livestock disease, such as foot-and-mouth disease or highly pathogenic avian influenza. This study describes a smartphone application developed to enable livestock workers to observe information related to disinfectants for the prevention of livestock disease in the domestic market, regardless of time and location, through a Linux-based Android mobile platform. This application (Konkuk-Disinfectant Information Database) provides information on disinfectant names, components, license and use; it was designed to enable the user to share disinfectant information through social media.

  • The article discusses the application of the IoT concept in the sensitive field of medical devices on the example of a developed prototype of a mechanotherapeutic simulator. Mechanotherapy is a complex of therapeutic, preventive, and restorative exercises conducted using simulators, specially designed for developing movements in individual joints. Mechanotherapy is used for the early and painless restoration of joint mobility, to prevent complications associated with prolonged immobilization of the injured area of extremities. Using the mechanotherapy simulator allows developing the joint painlessly, which accelerates the metabolism in the injured area, and soft tissues are restored to normal. The article provides information about the electronic components that ensure the wireless operation of the device and describes in detail the applied software as well as the client application for a mobile device.

  • Recently, as increasing use of smartphone, the development of social network service(SNS) applications is very active because of the mobility of smartphone. In addition, as the demand of the location based service(LBS) supporting mobile information is expanded, LBS combined with SNS improves the usability of smart phones. This paper proposes the smartphone application that provides the information for SNS generated depending on the location, by tracking the user's location in real time.

  • Currently the mobile augmented reality does not require supplemental hardware, such as markers like specific images or depth cameras, in order to acquire 3D environment information. This allows for increased accessibility and usability for the general user, and also broadened scope of development. The market research enterprise Counterpoint Research predicted that the growth of the augmented reality market will reach 70 trillion Korean Won by 2021. Application developments are also progressing. Wargaming, the developer of the global game World of Tanks, has launched an application that uses AR core at the GDC 2018. Thus, we must prepare for the impending augmented reality market and acquire top class augmented reality technology using 3D environment. This paper outlines the development of a game using AR CORE SDK to acquire 3D environment and Unity 3D game engine to combine camera images and 3D graphics, which all comes together to construct a natural augmented reality.
