Performance Analysis of Fine Frequency Synchronization Scheme in Mobile WiMAX Systems (Mobile WiMAX 시스템에서 미세 주파수 동기화 기법의 성능 분석)

  • Carrier frequency offset (CFO) is one of the most important problems in an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system, which seriously degrades the performance of the systems due to its time-variant behavior. In this paper, the performance of a pilot-assisted fine CFO estimator in OFDM-based mobile WiMAX systems is analyzed. Analytical closed-form expression of the mean square error (MSE) of the post-FFT based CFO synchronization scheme is reported for time-variant fading channels. Taking into account the frame structure of the IEEE802.16e standard, simulation results are used to verify the theoretical analysis developed in this paper.

  • This paper presents a design of a multi-band infernal antenna for mobile handsets which can cover the major mobile services such as WiBro/WiMAX mobile internet services and Media-FLO/S-DMB services. Using wideband monopole antenna structure, the proposed antenna obtains the wide bandwidth characteristic at high Sequency band to be applicable for new mobile services. Stacking meandered radiator on the wideband monopole radiator and obtaining the different current path and lenga on these stacked radiators, overall antenna volume is effectively reduced. The measured bandwidths (VSWR<3) of the proposed antenna is 270 MHz and 2032 MHz at low and high band, respectively. This antenna can effectively covers major wireless communication bands including Media-FLO, CDMA, GSM, GPS, DCS, PCS, UMTS, WiBro, WiMAX, and S-DMB.

  • This study analyzed the system level performance of the Mobile WiMAX-based TICN, and the effects of the use of BS-OTM in terms of the throughput of individual users as well as the overall system, assuming that other stationary BSs are distributed randomly. When BS-OTM is used, the CINRs decrease due to the additional interference from the BS-OTM from the perspective of SSs that are served by the same BS as when OTM BS is not used. On the other hand, from the perspective of SSs that had low CINRs, the CINRs increase significantly due to the new service from BS-OTM. Considering both effects, the cell throughput can be increased using BS-OTM. The CINR distribution and throughput of the overall system, changing the carrier frequency, position and velocity of the BS-OTM were also evaluated.

QoS-Aware Group Scan Scheduling in WiMAX Networks (WiMAX 네트워크에서 QoS 기반의 그룹 스캔 스케쥴링 기법)

  • For the fast target base station channel decision in WiMAX networks, fast group scanning scheme was suggested, in which mobile stations in proximity of each other form a group and scan the candidate channels dispersively. However, the previous group scanning scheme does not consider the different QoS requirements of each MS in a group. In this paper we propose the enhanced group scanning scheme, so-called QoS-aware group scan scheduling scheme, that makes mobile stations in a group scan the candidate channels without deteriorating the QoS requirements. We introduce the QoS-aware channel scanning concept of a individual mobile station and show the different scanning latencies due to the different QoS requirements. With the help of the efficient channel allocation by the serving BS, in the proposed scanning scheme, a mobile station with relatively higher QoS in a group scans less amount of candidate channels than the others with relatively lower QoS, while the mobile stations in a group still guarantees the fast target base station decision. The performance results show that our proposed scanning scheme results in the fast target base station decision while considering the QoS requirements of each MS.

  • Handover in high speed mobile communication service, in particulary mobile WiMAX is supported efficiency mobility to 120km/h speed. But, in order to accommodate number of user increment in a cell, wireless network is increment to microcell and picocell by allocate bandwidth and by decrease cell size. handover is occurrent and increment connection failure ratio In this result. IEEE 802.16 standard is support seamless connection through handover optimization scheme. But because authentication process is abbreviate, network weakness is exposure. In this paper, we propose handover scheme for support realtime service as VoIP, Picure communication, Streaming Data Service in order to support partially encryption method. In experiment, proposed scheme is proof which process time is increment 20% more than previous scheme.

  • In order to efficiently provide IP based Wireless Broadband services in Mobile WiMAX, schemes for more efficiently utilizing a limited bandwidth in radio links are needed. Robust Header Compression (ROHC), a standard header compression scheme proposed by IETF, Bi-directional Optimistic (O) mode provides higher compression efficiency and robustness compared with Payload Header Suppression (PHS) which is an optional header compression scheme for mobile WiMAX [1, 2]. However, if consecutive packet losses occur because of a Shadow Region of Mobile WiMAX or bit errors, header decompression failure rate of the ROHC O mode increases due to inconsistency of the compression information between the Compressor and the Decompressor. Therefore, a complementary mechanism is needed. In this paper, we propose an approach for the dynamic adjustment of an optimistic parameter, which has an effect on both the compression efficiency and the robustness, for improving the performance of ROHC O mode. We also analyze the performance of the proposed approach using an OPNET simulator.

  • The cryptological key which is used in WiMAX environment is used at regular intervals by mobile nodes (laptop computer, PDA, cell-phone) which is in the range of base station coverage. But it is very weak at local attack like man-in-the-middle when the mobile node is off the range of base station or enters into the range to communicate with base station because the communication section is activated wirelessly. This paper proposes a distribution key building protocol which can reuse security key used by nodes to reduce cryptological security attack danger and communication overhead which occurs when mobile node tries to communicate with base station. The proposed distribution key establishing protocol can reduce overhead which occurs between base station and mobile node through key reusing which occurs during the communication process and also, makes security better than IEEE 802.16 standard by creating shared key which is required for inter-certification through the random number which node itself creates.

  • Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX) is an efficient technology for 20th century communication system. The technology provides broadband speed without the need for cables and is based on the IEEE 802.16 standard(also called Wireless MAN). Mobile WiMAX is defined as IEEE802.16e which is advanced and efficient technology for mobile telecommunication rather than GSM, CDMA technology. In this work link budget calculation for WiMAX have been done. Cell range have been calculated over digital modulations and they are BPSK, QPSK and QAM. Here different types of models like Cost 231 model have been used for different types of areas like open, rural and urban areas and Erceg-Greenstein model for sub-urban areas. Effect of various parameters like frequency, base station antenna height, transmission power and SNR over cell range have been studied. Analysis have done for both uplink and downlink.

  • Mobile WiMAX provides wireless broadband services for data communication based on IP protocol. The limitation of physical bandwidth in the radio links may cause performance degradation in providing wireless broadband services in WIMAX. To enhance the efficiency of the radio link utilization, Payload Header Suppression (PHS) is defined as an optional header compression mechanism for mobile WiMAX. It has, however, a very limited compression capability since it has very restrictive compression fields. In this paper, hence, we assumed the application of Robust Header Compression (ROHC), a header compression scheme proposed for links characterized by high bit error ratios, long round-trip times (RTT), and scarce resource, to Mobile WiMAX, and studied its performance. Previous studies on ROHC performance merely focused on the impact of high bit error rate. However, bit error is virtually transparent to ROHC in the wireless systems like WiMAX, since the MAC provides the bit error checking function. In order to evaluate the performance of ROHC in the Mobile WiMAX environments, therefore, we evaluated the performance of ROHC with respect to the packet losses instead of bit error. We investigated the impact of the ROHC parameters that are recommended for the implementation in the ROHC and compared the performance of ROHC with PHS.

Highly Efficient High Power Hybrid EER Transmitter for IEEE 802.16e Mobile WiMAX Application (IEEE 802.16e Mobile WiMAX용 고효율 고출력 하이브리드 포락선 제거 및 복원 전력 송신기)

  • We have described a high power hybrid envelope elimination and restoration(H-EER) transmitter for IEEE 802.16e Mobile World Interoperability for Microwave Access(WiMAX) using an efficiency optimized power amplifier(PA). The PA has been designed to have maximum PAE at the important power generation $V_{ds}$, region using Nitronex 100-W PEP GaN HEMT. For the high power application, H-EER transmitter should be considered the regenerative oscillation problem due to the PA's bias fluctuation effect and bias modulator stability issue. Therefore, the bias modulator for H-EER transmitter has been designed to suppress the regenerative oscillation. For the interlock experiment, the bias modulator has been built with the efficiency of 72% and peak output voltage of 30 V for the envelope signal with a PAPR of 8.5 dB. The H-EER transmitter for WiMAX application has been achieved a high PAE characteristic, 38.8 % at an output power of 41.25 dBm. By using digital predistortion(DPD) technique, the Relative Constellation Error (RCE) has been satisfied the specification of -34.5 dB. This is the first work at 2.655 GHz high power H-EER transmitter for WiMAX application.
