Analysis and improvement on the Reliability of Plasma Display Panel

  • It is analyzed how the Plasma - MgO surface interaction, driving waveform and their inter-relation can cause misfiring. Developing of glow discharge mode during the ramp reset due to lack of priming particles was suggested as one of the important misfiring sources. It is also shown that simple modification of reset waveform can considerably reduce misfiring probability.

  • This paper deals with the relationships between MgO manufacturing condition and misfiring at low temperature. The characteristics of MgO are affected by substrate temperature and MgO deposition current. In this study. the. substrate temperature was varied from $100^{\circ}C$ to $200^{\circ}C$. And the MgO deposition current was varied from 5mA to 20mA. As a result. the misfiring at low temperature was decreased in the panels with substrate temperature $200^{\circ}C$ and MgO deposition current 5mA. These results may be explained that the higher substrate temperature and lower MgO deposition current makes the denser film formation.

  • An address voltage stabilization circuit for the single-side driving (SSD) method for AC plasma display panels (PDP) is proposed. The single-side driving method, which eliminates a common sustaining driver, uses only two electrodes in a three electrode AC PDP structure. The high-impedance (Hi-Z) mode operation of the data drive ICs during the sustaining period is needed for surface gas-discharge without misfiring in the SSD method but it produces the problem that the address voltage increases up to the breakdown voltage. The proposed circuit based on a flyback converter can stabilize the address voltage under the breakdown voltage and provide better surface gas-discharge performance without any misfiring in the SSD scheme.

  • 최근 내연 기관에서 엔진상태 및 잠재적인 결함의 발견을 위해 연료분사, 실린더 내 연소과정, 실린더 내부와 피스톤 마모상태, 흡 배기 밸브 및 과급기 (turbocharger) 등의 상태 모니터링을 통해서 결함에 대한 진단 및 경향관리에 대한 연구들이 진행되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 기 개발된 선박용 대형디젤엔진에 대한 상시 모니터링 시스템을 이용하여 엔진상태 및 잠재적인 결함을 진단하고자 하였으며, 일차적으로 가속도 신호를 이용하여 실린더 내 연소과정에서 정상적인 상태와 착화실패에 따른 진동 양상을 비교 분석하였다. 신호 분석 기법으로 시간-주파수 분산 기법들은 충격파 신호인 엔진 폭발신호를 분석하는데 적합하였으며, 그 기법들 중 Short Time Fourier Transform 기법과 Wavelet Transform 기법을 이용하였다.

  • A new driving waveform was proposed to reduce the cost in PDP-TV based on Vt close curve by eliminating the common (X) board under the conventional 42-inch panel structure. Due to the serious misfiring problem during a sustain-period when applying the new driving waveform, the wall voltage was measured and analyzed after the reset-period using Vt close curve. As a result of adopting the proposed driving waveform designed using Vt close curve analysis, the cost of PDP module could reduce compared with the conventional PDP module without any misfiring discharge.

  • If the ambient temperature rises in AC PDP, some of the discharged cells arc turned off because of the addressing failure. Particularly, the addressing failure at the last scan line is more serious than at the first scan line. The failure is accompanied with delay of the address discharge and reduction of total charge involved. In order to compensate this kind of misfiling, the progressively increasing address voltage waveform is used instead of constant one. In this method, we found that the total charge and address time at the last scan line are similar to those of the first line. As a result, we can have stable discharge without misfiring even at the high ambient temperature.

  • A new driving method is proposed to reduce the address period. The scan time of new driving method overlaps with the next scan time during the discharge lag time. Thus, without reducing the address pulse width and the scan pulse width, the new addressing method can reduce the address period. The results show that the scan time of about 100ns ${\sim}$ 300ns can be overlapped without the misfiring,.

  • Plasma display panel (PDP) televisions are facing to have a new chance to receive attention along with a boom in 3-D software and contents because PDP can provide the comfortable and realistic 3-D images. The PDP has three driving circuit boards such as X, Y and addressing boards. Cost effective driving waveform has already been reported to decrease the number of driving circuit board. Half bridge based sustaining driver can remove a sustaining driver in the X board. However, the biasing circuit in the X driving boards cannot be reduced because there are some drawbacks such as unstable gas discharge condition and unreliability of an address driver IC. In this paper, the half bridge based sustaining driver is considered and a simple address driver is proposed to remove one driving board, X driving board. The stable gas discharge condition, reliability of the address driver IC and the low cost can be obtained by the proposed circuit.

A study on ignition delays of sprays using a shock tube (충격파관을 이용한 분무연료의 착화지연에 관한 연구)

  • A shock tube technique was developed in which a freely falling droplets column produced by an ultrasonic atomizer was ignited behind reflected shock. In the present study, the effects of turbulent mixing on the ignition delay of a cetane was decided, also, ignition process was investigated. For the purpose of disturbance of droplets column and mixing, authors installed turbulent lattice in shock tube. Usually, the ignition delay is so called Arrhenius plot which found break point in the Arrhenius plot on the high temperature side. The rate of misfiring increased rapidly below 1080K, but ignition took place from 838k and luminous flame was seen to spread over the whole section by turbulent lattice. Length, from end plate to turbulent lattice, was varied with 60,40,20mm. Also, ignition process was detected by Photo transistor. As a result, it was found that physical factors changed ignition delay greatly and turbulent mixing had a considerable effects in the ignition process.

  • Diesel engines have been widely used in ships and power plants because of its higher thermal efficiency, mobility and durability compared to other prime movers. Though these merits, diesel engine including main components are sometimes vibrated due to higher combustion pressure in cylinders. Especially torsional, axial and structural vibrations in propulsion shafting may be severely manifested by the malfunction of torsional and axial dampers and misfiring and unbalanced load in cylinder. The structural vibration of main body and turbocharger core hole are also occurred by the loosen top bracing and excess wear-out or failure of turbocharger's bearings. The marine diesel engine should be safely designed from these vibrations. This paper introduces experimental methods to develop the prototype of integrated vibration monitoring system for marine diesel engine.
