In this paper, we propose a FD USE (frequency domain minimum mean square error) equalizer algorithm for MBOK DS-UWB (M-ary bi-orthogonal keying direct sequence UWB) systems considered as a PHY proposal for high-speed wireless communication in IEEE 802.15.TG3a. The conventional FD MMSE equalization scheme has a structural limit due to insertion of the cyclic prefix (CP) in all transmit packets, but the proposed scheme is able to equalize the channel effect without CP. In order to overcome channel estimation error by multipath delay, we introduce a moving FFT and a moving average scheme. Compared with conventional FD MMSE equalizer and the traditional TD (time domain) MMSE-RAKE receiver, the proposed FD MMSE equalizer has better BER performance and we demonstrate this result by computer simulation.

This paper proposes an efficient scheme to track the time variant channel induced by multi-path Rayleigh fading in mobile wireless Multiple Input Multiple Output-Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (MIMO-OFDM) systems with null sub-carriers. In the proposed method, a blind channel response predictor is designed to cope with the time variant channel. The proposed channel tracking scheme consists of a frequency domain estimation approach that is coupled with a Minimum Mean Square Error (MMSE) time domain estimation method, and does not require any matrix inverse calculation during each OFDM symbol. The main attributes of the proposed scheme are its reduced computational complexity and good tracking performance of channel variations. The simulation results show that the proposed method exhibits superior performance than the conventional channel tracking method [4] in time varying channel environments. At a Doppler frequency of 100Hz and bit error rates (BER) of 10-4, signal-to-noise power ratio (Eb/N0) gains of about 2.5dB are achieved relative to the conventional channel tracking method [4]. At a Doppler frequency of 200Hz, the performance difference between the proposed method and conventional one becomes much larger.
In this paper, we introduce the method that reduces the bias when the transformation and back-transformation approach is applied in GARCH models. A parametric bootstrap is employed to compute the conditional expectation which is the prediction value to minimize mean square errors in the original scale. Through the analyese of returns of KOSPI and KOSDAQ, we verified that the proposed method provides a bias-reduced estimation for the prediction value.
We analyze the linear equalizers used in optically amplified on-off-keyed (OOK) systems to combat chromatic dispersion (CD) and polarization mode dispersion (PMD), and we derive the mathematical minimum mean squared error (MMSE) performance of these equalizers. Currently, the MMSE linear equalizer for optical OOK systems is obtained by simulations using adaptive approaches such as least mean squared (LMS) or constant modulus algorithm (CMA), but no theoretical studies on the optimal solutions for these equalizers have been performed. We model the optical OOK systems as square-law nonlinear channels and compute the MMSE equalizer coefficients directly from the estimated optical channel, signal power, and optical noise variance. The accuracy of the calculated MMSE equalizer coefficients and MMSE performance has been verified by simulations using adaptive algorithms.

We propose two new blind LMS and MMSE algorithms called projection-based least mean square (PB-LMS) and projection-based minimum mean square error (PB-MMSE) for smart antennas. Both algorithms employ the finite constellation property of digital signal to transform the conventional LMS and MMSE algorithms into blind algorithms. Computer simulations were carried out in the AWGN channel and Rayleigh fading channel with AWGN in CDMA environment to verify the performance of the two proposed algorithms.
A linear-prediction-based blind equalization algorithm for single-input single-output (SISO) finite impulse response/infinite impulse response (FIR/IIR) channels is proposed. The new algorithm is based on second-order statistics, and it does not require channel order estimation. By oversampling the channel output, the SISO channel model is converted to a special single-input multiple-output (SIMO) model. Two forward linear predictors with consecutive prediction delays are applied to the subchannel outputs of the SIMO model. It is demonstrated that the partial parameters of the SIMO model can be estimated from the difference between the prediction errors when the length of the predictors is sufficiently large. The sufficient filter length for achieving the optimal prediction is also derived. Based on the estimated parameters, both batch and adaptive minimum-mean-square-error equalizers are developed. The performance of the proposed equalizers is evaluated by computer simulations and compared with existing algorithms.
The use of beamforming is effective for users in limited power environments. However, when it is applied to the downlink of a cellular system with universal frequency reuse, users near the sector boundary may experience significant interference from more than one sector. The use of a minimum mean square error (MMSE)-type receiver may not sufficiently cancel out the interference unless a sufficient number of receive antennas are used. In this paper, we consider the use of inter-sector beamforming that cooperates with a neighboring sector in the same cell to mitigate this interference problem in time-division duplex (TDD) environments. The proposed scheme can avoid interference from an adjacent sector in the same cell, while enhancing the transmit array gain by using the TDD reciprocity. The performance of the proposed scheme is analyzed in terms of the output signal-to-interference-plus-noise power ratio (SINR) and the output capacity when applied to an MMSE-type receiver. The beamforming mode can be analytically switched between the inter-sector and the single-sector mode based on the long-term channel information. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed scheme is verified by computer simulation.

Recently, in 3rd Generation Partnership Project(3GPP), there is a study of the Long Term Evolution(LTE) based vehicle communication which has been actively conducted to provide a transport efficiency, telematics and infortainment. Because the vehicle communication is closely related to the safety, it requires a reliable communication. Because vehicle speed is very fast, unlike the movement of the user, radio channel is rapidly changed and generate a number of problems such as transmission quality degradation. Therefore, we have to continuously updates the channel estimates. There are five types of conventional channel estimation scheme. Least Square(LS) is obtained by pilot symbol which is known to transmitter and receiver. Decision Directed Channel Estimation(DDCE) scheme uses the data signal for channel estimation. Constructed Data Pilot(CDP) scheme uses the correlation characteristic between adjacent two data symbols. Spectral Temporal Averaging(STA) scheme uses the frequency-time domain average of the channel. Smoothing scheme reduces the peak error value of data decision. In this paper, we propose the novel channel estimation scheme in LTE based Vehicle-to-Vehicle(V2V) environment. In our Hybrid Reliable Channel Estimation(HRCE) scheme, DDCE and Smoothing schemes are combined and finally the Linear Minimum Mean Square Error(LMMSE) scheme is applied to minimize the channel estimation error. Therefore it is possible to detect the reliable data. In simulation results, overall performance can be improved in terms of Normalized Mean Square Error(NMSE) and Bit Error Rate(BER).
In the Vector Taylor Series (VTS)-based noisy speech recognition methods, Hidden Markov Models (HMM) are usually trained with clean speech. However, better performance is expected by training the HMM with noisy speech. In a previous study, we could find that Minimum Mean Square Error (MMSE) estimation of the training noisy speech in the log-spectrum domain produce improved recognition results, but since the proposed algorithm was done in the log-spectrum domain, it could not be used for the HMM adaptation. In this paper, we modify the previous algorithm to derive a novel mathematical relation between test and training noisy speech in the cepstrum domain and the mean and covariance of the Multi-condition TRaining (MTR) trained noisy speech HMM are adapted. In the noisy speech recognition experiments on the Aurora 2 database, the proposed method produced 10.6% of relative improvement in Word Error Rates (WERs) over the MTR method while the previous MMSE estimation of the training noisy speech produced 4.3% of relative improvement, which shows the superiority of the proposed method.
In this paper, adaptive minimum mean-squared error (MMSE) multiuser detector combined with decision-feedback detector (DFD) is considered fur near-far resistant DS-CDMA system. To provide a reliable input to the adaptive MMSE detector, multiple-access interference (MAI) is regenerated using bit estimates from DFD and subtracted from the received signal. In the adaptive MMSE detector, the effect of the imperfect cancellation is compensated by a least mean square (LMS) algorithm. Through the numerical results, it is shown that, in a near-far situation, the proposed scheme provides superior performance to the matched filter (MF) receiver, adaptive MMSE detector, and DFD in terms of the bit error rate (BER).
