  • Miniature inertance pulse tube refrigerator was designed and fabricated to provide optimal performance with 10W compressor. An adiabatic model was used to design an inertance pulse tube refrigerator. Among the various design parameters which should be optimized, pulse tube length and inertance tube length were considered. PdV work and various losses were calculated for various pulse tube and inertance tube length. Experiments were carried out for different pulse tube length and inertance tube length. It was shown that the experimental results were similar to the calculated results. The reason why the quantitative optimal point exists is explained.

  • The performance of cryogenic refrigerator greatly depends on the effectiveness of heat exchanger, which generates major entropy at low temperature. There are numerous types of heat exchanger available, but it is not easy to apply most of them to cryogenic application because the cryogenic heat exchanger must have high effectiveness value as well as small conduction loss in the environment of considerable temperature difference. In this paper, two kinds of heat exchanger are noticeably introduced for high-effectiveness miniature cryogenic recuperator(recuperative heat ex-changer). Also, the flow mal-distribution problem, which is a critical issue of performance deterioration in a high-effectiveness recuperator, is addressed with simplified model, and its alleviation method is discussed.

  • A set of full size cold rolled steel sheets has been prestrained in the direction of rolling by uniform tensile elongation of 3% and 6%. Then mid-sized tensile specimens were cut from each of the full size sheets at 30, 45, 60 and 90 degrees to the rolling direction. The mid-sized tensile specimens were then prestrained again by uniform tensile elongation by 1%, 2%, 5%, 10% and 15%. finally, miniature tensile specimens were prepared from each of the mid-sized specimens at every 10 degrees to the specimen axis. From the tensile tests on miniature specimens material's hardening behavior under non-proportional loading has been investigated. There are a number of new observations which has not been known to the authors before current work. One of them is continuous reservation of orthoropic symmetry during tensile elongation of mid-sized specimens. Another is continuous rotations of orthotropy axes. Existing theories seem to fail to explain this observations. A new model is proposed in relation to the rotation of orthotropy axes.

  • Reported is a visual and quantitative experimental study on the two-phase flow and heat transfer characteristics of miniature two-phase closed thermosyphons with wire inserts. The visual study clearly demonstrated the two-phase flow involved in such thermosyphons. In the quantitative study, the effects on the heat transfer rate of the insert wire diameter, the ratio of heated-length to cooled length and the applied heat flux were investigated.

  • A 17-year-old neutered male Miniature Pinscher dog presented with a mass on the left side of the submandibular region. Fine needle aspiration revealed malignant epithelial cells from the salivary gland but no evidence of metastasis was found on radiography, ultrasonography, or computed tomography. The cervical mass was surgically resected, and the histopathological examination confirmed adenocarcinoma of the mandibular salivary gland. Seven months after the initial diagnosis, the dog is alive without any clinical signs. This report describes the clinical findings, cytology, diagnostic imaging, and histopathological characteristics of a mandibular salivary gland adenocarcinoma in a Miniature Pinscher dog.

  • To accurately analyze the accidents in nuclear reactors, a thermohydraulic-neutronic coupling calculation is required to solve fluid dynamics and nuclear reactor kinetics equations in fine cells simultaneously and evaluate the local effects of neutronic and thermohydraulic parameters on each other. In the present study, a 3D thermohydraulic-neutronic coupling model is developed, validated and then applied for Isfahan MNSR (Miniature Neutron Source reactor) safety analysis. The proposed model is developed using FLUENT software and user defined functions (UDF) are applied to simulate the neutronic behavior of MNSR. The validation of the proposed model is first evaluated using 1mk reactivity insertion experiment into Isfahan MNSR core. Then, the developed coupling code is applied for a design basis accident (DBA) scenario analysis with the insertion of maximum allowed cold core reactivity of 4 mk. The results show that the proposed model is able to predict the behavior of the reactor core under normal and accident conditions with a good accuracy.

  • Compulsive behavior is a sequence of movements usually derived from normal maintenance behaviors that are performed out of context in a repetitive, exaggerated, ritualistic, and sustained manner. In general, the treatment plan includes environmental management, behavior modifications, and psychotropic medications, however, the prognosis is varied. In this case report, a 9-year-old neutered male miniature poodle presented with a lifelong history of tail chasing and mutilation. Based on the behavioral history, observations, and physical examination, compulsive disorder was diagnosed. The dog's compulsive tail chasing behavior improved only with a combination of psychotropic medications, including fluoxetine, trazodone, and gabapentin.

  • An 18-year-old miniature Appaloosa stallion presented with 6 months of history of sanguineous crusts on medial hind limbs and discomfort of micturition. Cauliflower-like and small masses were treated with cryotherapy for 6 months, but the regrowth of masses occurred. Subsequently, local excision via laser and topical treatment with 5% 5-fluorouracil for 5 months were followed. However, the horse was euthanized 4 months later due to regrowth of the masses. The mass was diagnosed as penile papilloma with cellular atypia and Equus caballus papillomavirus type 2 (EcPV-2) DNA was detected. This is the first report of equine penile neoplasm with EcPV-2 infection in Asia.

  • Animation contents are gradually growing every year, but production period and budget for making one animation contents is insufficient as of now. In particular, in case of animation series that are broadcasted on television, many episodes should be made within a short period of production term. Hence, production pipeline of full three-dimensional animation is frequently chosen in this case. However, another problem emerges as the full three-dimensional animation also requires a lot of time for making high-quality background and for rendering. Composed animation is a production pipeline that attempts to solve such problem. It is a pipeline of producing animation by composing computer graphic (CG) character and real background. It requires relatively small number of human resources compared to the full three-dimensional animation pipeline. Hence, it has an advantage in that natural-looking image can be produced under efficient structure and time for rendering can also be reduced. This paper proposes an efficient process of producing composed animation by using miniature set and three-dimensional computer graphic.

  • This paper describes the method to rapidly fabricate the large-sized physical model with the envelope model size of more than 600 mm${\times}$ 600 mm${\times}$ 600 mm using two type semi-automatic VLM-ST processes in connection with the reverse engineering technology. The fabrication procedure of the large-sized solid shape is as follows: (1) Generation of STL data from 3D scan data using 3D scanner, (2) generation of shell-type STL data by Boolean operation, (3) division of shell-type STL data into several pieces by solid splitting, (4) generation of USL data for each piece with VLM-Slicer, (5) fabrication of each piece by cutting and stacking according to USL data using VLM-ST apparatus, (6) completion of a shell-type prototype by zigzag stacking and assembly for each piece, (7) completion of a 3D solid shape by foam backing, (8) surface finish of a completed 3D solid shape by coating and sanding. In order to examine the applicability of the proposed method, the miniature of the Mount Rushmore Memorial has been fabricated. The envelope model size of the miniature of the Mount Rushmore Memorial is 1,453 mm${\times}$ 760 mm${\times}$ 853 mm in size. From the result of the fabricated miniature of the Mount Rushmore Memorial, it has been shown that the method to fabricate the large object using two type semi-automatic VLM-ST processes in connection with the reverse engineering technology are very fast and efficient.
