  • Purpose: This study was done to explore the essence and meaning of the experience of 'aging', as a process of 40's and 50's women in Korea by applying the Parse's Human Becoming theory (2002). Methods: Data was collected from February to April, 2013, using the phenomenological research method. Data was collected through in-depth informal interview and analyzed following Colaizzi method. After IRB permission and informed consent from the participants, all interviews were recorded with MP3 recorder and transcribed for analysis. Results: Data analysis revealed 112 of meanings, 33 key subject words, 8 subject phrases, and 4 categories. The main themes were elaborated as 'going down' ('Being changed of body and mind', 'Being considered on my identity'), 'going up' ('Being expanded of productive role', 'Being transcendent multi-dimensionally'), 'pausing' ('Becoming more thoughtful about family', 'Looking back'), 'going forward again' ('Age is just a number, 'Contemplating of life and death'). Experiences in aging among women in 40's and 50's enlightened with Parse's theory of Human Becoming in terms of 'going down', 'going up', 'pausing', 'going forward again' appeared simultaneously, rather than consecutively. Conclusion: Women in 40's and 50's require holistic nursing intervention with physical, psychological, socio-economical, and spiritual aspects, rather than focusing on problematic physical symptom relief and prevention of further conditions. It is recommended to develop various nursing intervention considering on different environment, type of experience, and level of human becoming, individually.

The first- and second-grade textbook 'Pleasant Life' of the revised 2007 national curriculum was made to serve build up sound body and mind through activities and play together with different products and life culture which is associated with multicultural education. But in the global world that is changing to the multicultural area, the textbook 'Pleasant Life' has a tendency to not to be satisfied this current needs. The analysis criterion is made up six elements: understanding culture, self-identify, human equality, conquest of prejudice and collaboration. The results of analysis on contents related to the multicultural education in the elementary 'Pleasant Life' textbook for the 1st and 2nd grade are follows. The first, in the plenty of images and pictures, there are not diverse races in the textbook. Yellow race naturally command an overwhelming majority in the textbook images and pictures. Second, the 'Pleasant Life' has a few multicultural contents and if teacher would not have will for teaching multicultural contents, he can't teach multicultural education. Third, 'Pleasant Life' textbook has overmuch ethnocentrism contents which is expressed traditional play and folk songs. These contents lead to exclusiveness for other culture to students. In conclusion, it is needed to grow concerns for multicultural education and the national curriculum should offer precise guidelines on the direction and standards of multicultural education.

  • The purpose of this study was to increase the power of color and examine the long-lasting power, which is a disadvantage of one-pack acid hair dye by using chestnut shell pigment. For this, hair dyeing power was measured using a spectrophotometer, the optical density(O.D.) value was measured to examine the degree of fading of the hair, and the elasticity of the hair was analyzed by measuring the tensile strength. As a result of comparing the results of applying different leaving times and treatment methods to the hair samples of each level, the experimental group that was heat-treated for 20 minutes showed the highest dyeing power. Then, it was confirmed in the order of 40 minutes of natural exposure, 10 minutes of heat treatment, and 20 minutes of natural exposure. And it was also confirmed that the color expression visually improved as it went up to level 10. However, at level 10, it was confirmed that some water loss occurred even after 3 days and the tensile strength was low. These findings that indicated the beauty industry will popularize a one-step acid hair dye containing various natural dye ingredients to help maintain modern people's well-being and healthy mind and body.

  • The purpose of this study is to help female office workers in relieving their stress in rapidly changing modern society and maintaining a healthy and beautiful life by analyzing the complex effects of alternative beauty therapy on stress relaxation targeting 50 female office workers in their 30s to 40s, usually showing a high stress index due to their work. Aroma therapy and dry relax massage were carried out for 15 minutes as a beauty therapy, and stress index of the subjects was confirmed through survey before performing the beauty therapy. The experiment was conducted once a week for four weeks, and the cortisol concentration in saliva was analyzed for the outcome measurement. As a result, average stress index was 3.97 which showed a high value, and the cortisol concentration of the subjects after the experiment decreased significantly (p<0.05), and especially subjects who were married and had caregiving responsibility showed more changes in their cortisol concentration. The above result shows that dry relax massage using aroma is highly effective for mind and body relaxation of women in their 30s to 40s who are significantly stressed. If such beauty measures are applied properly, it is judged to be helpful for managing the stress.

  • BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), an n-3 long chain polyunsaturated fatty acid (LCPUFA), is acquired by dietary intake or the in vivo conversion of ${\alpha}$-linolenic acid. Many enzymes participating in LCPUFA synthesis are regulated by peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha ($PPAR{\alpha}$). Therefore, it was hypothesized that the tissue accretion of endogenously synthesized DHA could be modified by $PPAR{\alpha}$. MATERIALS/METHODS: The tissue DHA concentrations and mRNA levels of genes participating in DHA biosynthesis were compared among $PPAR{\alpha}$ homozygous (KO), heterozygous (HZ), and wild type (WT) mice (Exp I), and between WT mice treated with clofibrate ($PPAR{\alpha}$ agonist) or those not treated (Exp II). In ExpII, the expression levels of the proteins associated with DHA function in the brain cortex and retina were also measured. An n3-PUFA depleted/replenished regimen was applied to mitigate the confounding effects of maternal DHA. RESULTS: $PPAR{\alpha}$ ablation reduced the hepatic Acox, Fads1, and Fads2 mRNA levels, as well as the DHA concentration in the liver, but not in the brain cortex. In contrast, $PPAR{\alpha}$ activation increased hepatic Acox, Fads1, Fads2, and Elovl5 mRNA levels, but reduced the DHA concentrations in the liver, retina, and phospholipid of brain cortex, and decreased mRNA and protein levels of the brain-derived neurotrophic factor in brain cortex. CONCLUSIONS: LCPUFA enzyme expression was altered by $PPAR{\alpha}$. Either $PPAR{\alpha}$ deficiency or activation-decreased tissue DHA concentration is a stimulus for further studies to determine the functional significance.

  • This paper considers the historical background of the emergence of 'thinking-machine,' that has changed the ontological statue of human and machine. In particular, British mathematician Charles Babbage's Calculating Engines is examined as a material iteration of thinking-machine, focusing on the discursive process by which thought is not the faculty of human, but the function of machine. In Chapter II, I review the dualism of René Descartes who denied the possibility of machine intelligence by separating the substance of body and mind. In Chapter III, Babbage's philosophical assertions which emphasized the function of human associated with thought by rejecting the fundamental opposition between human and machine. Therefore, this paper verifies that the conception of 'thinking-machine' essentially causes the reorganization and reformulation of concepts involved with human identity, and provides the sophisticated sources to prepare new perspective on the artificial technology nowadays.
