Fabrication of Nano-sized Titanate Powders by an Ethylene Glycol Solution Route

  • Several titanate powders ($Al_2TiO_5,\;SrTiO_3$, etc.) were synthesized by an ethylene glycol solution route. Titanium isopropoxide and nitrate salts were dissolved in stoichiometric proportions in liquid-type ethylene glycol without any precipitation. The parent precursor sols were dried to porous gels, and then the gels were calcined and crystallized. All synthesized titanate powders had stable crystallization behavior at low temperature and high specific surface area after a simple ball-milling process. A three-component PZT $(Pb(Zr_{0.52}{\cdot}Ti_{0.48})O_3)$ powder was also synthesized successfully by the ethylene glycol method. In this study, the characteristics of the multi-component titanate powders by the ethylene glycol method are examined.

  • The main objectives of this studies are to present the most desirable rice processing complex model system in a given our situations by comparision and analyzing the major factors and, also recommend the future prospect of the rice processing complex in Korea. There are 3 different rice processing complex models in Korea. Those are concrete bin, flat type steel bin and square bin. These systems have a lot of differences and have their own characteristics such as capital requirement, efficiency, storage capacity and quality controls. The major problems of the existing rice processing centers in Korea are high fixed cost and the unbalnced systems. Following is summary to solve this problems: 1. Development of the large scale harvester and high speed continuous dryer. 2. Quality inspective system of bulk grain and large scale temporary storage facilities. 3. Large size readjustment of arable land. 4. Select the convenient location of rice processing center and formulation of well equipment facilities.

제분방법이 쌀가루의 입자크기에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Different Milling Methods on Distribution of Particle Size of Rice Flours)

  • Sieve shaker와 Elzone particle size analyzer에 의한 두 가지 방법으로 제분방법에 따른 입자크기를 조사하였다. 제분방법별로 제조한 쌀가루의 입도분포를 측정한 결과 입자크기는 제분방법에 따라 영향을 받았으며 표준망체를 이용한 Sieve shaker 방법보다 Elzone particle size analyzer를 사용한 방법이 정확도가 우수하였다. 입도분포를 측정한 결과 Pin mill의 경우 $200{\sim}270$mesh가 30.38%으로 가장 많았고 $60{\sim}500mesh$의 분포도를 가졌다. Colloid mill은 $140{\sim}200mesh$가 가장 많았으며, $40{\sim}500mesh$의 분포도를 가졌다. Micro mill은 500mesh 이상이 41.62%로 가장 많았고 $140{\sim}500mesh$의 분포도를 보여주었다. Jet mill은 500 mesh 이상의 분포도로 입자크기가 가장 미세하였다. 또한 미세한 입자일수록 L간과 a값이 증가하였다. 쌀가루의 집합체를 살펴본 결과 습식제분은 분리된 쌀가루의 집합체형태로 구성되어 있고 건식제분은 분활된 조직체로 구성되었다. 전자주사현미경은 Elzone particle size analyzer 방법과 같은 입자분포도를 나타내었고 제분방법에 따라 구조의 특성을 보여주었다.

  • Ion implantation, photo-lithography, Ar ion milling과 hot press 법을 이용한 micro-fabrication techrique을 사용하여 고순도 알루미나 단결정인 사파이어의 내부에, 조절된 Ca의 첨가량을 갖고 있는, crack과 비슷한 형태의 기공들을 형성시켰다. 이 bi-cryslal을 각각의 온도에서 열처리하여 Ca 이온이 고온에서 알루미나의 morphology와 hcaling에 미치는 영향을 관찰하였다. 열처리 온도가 올라감에 따라서 crack-like pore의 내부에 hcxagonal bridging ligaments가 생성되었는데, 열처리 온도와 Ca의 첨가량이 증가할수록 크기가 커지는 것을 관찰할 수 있었고, 생성된 hexagonal bndgmg ligaments는 열처리가 진행됨에 따라 서서히 커지면서 모서리가 둥글어지는 현상을 관찰할 수 있었다. Bicrystal 내부에 형성된 crack-like pore는 열처리가 진행되면서 edge regression. ligamcnt growth 및 flow의 3가지의 특징적인 형태로 진행되었다. 이때 edge regression은 상대적으로 저온에서부터 전체 crack-like pore에서 서서히 일어나기 시작하였으며, ligament growth는 일부 crack-like pore에서 진행되있으며, 대단히 빠른 속도로 crack healing이 진행됨을 추정할 수 있었다. Flow는 $1800^{\circ}C$ 이상의 고온에서 모든 crack-like pore에 걸쳐서 느리게 일어남을 알 수 있었다.

한국 쌀의 입형구분과 상품 품위등급 설정 (Classification of Grain Type and Marketing Grades for Korean Rice Varieties)

  • 우리 나라에서 재배되고 있는 주요 벼품종들의 입형을 조사하여 입형에 따른 품종군을 구분하고 도정율과 발의 상품가치를 높히고자 1995년 경기도 여주군 가남면 건국대학교 농과대학 실습농장에서 47개의 주요 품종을 재배, 수확하여 실험한 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1. 공시품중의 현미 장폭비는 1.57∼2.25범위로서 통일형 품종을 제외하면 장폭비가 모두 2.0이하의 단원형에 속하였다. 2. 단립(장폭비 2.0이하)에 속하는 품종들의 평균 장폭비는 1.77, 변이계수는 4.79%로서 입형의 균일도에 차이가 심하였다. 3. 현미의 장폭비에 의하여 1군은 1.75이하, 2군은 1.76∼l.80, 3군은 1.81∼l.90, 4군은 1.91∼2.00, 5군은 2.01 이상으로 5등급하면 현재 분류방법보다 더 균일한 입형을 가진 품종군으로 분류할 수 있었다. 4. 1군과 2군에 속하는 품종들은 도정시 체눈의 크기가 1.7mm(001체)를 사용하는 것이 도정율과 쌀알의 균일도를 높일 수 있으며 3군과 4군에 속하는 품종들은 체눈의 크기가 2.0mm를 사용하는 것이 좋았다. 5. 쌀의 이화학적 및 취반특성은 품종 고유의 특성으로 위에서 분류한 등급간에는 뚜렷한 차이가 없으며 일반적으로 1군에 속하는 품종들이 밥맛이 좋다고 평가되었다.

Properties of Wollastonite-Reinforced Glass-Ceramics Made from Waste Automobile Glass and Waste Shell

  • Wollastonite-type glass ceramics were prepared by milling and firing at various temperatures using an automobile waste glass and waste shell as starting materials. Powder mixture ground by disk-type ball mill for 3 hours was pressed into a disk. The pressed specimen was fired at $850^{\circ}C$,$950^{\circ}C$ and $1050^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour in air. From FE-SEM observation, with an increase of the firing temperature from $850^{\circ}C$ to $1050^{\circ}C$, whisker-type phase was grown to about 10 $\mu\textrm{m}$ in length. Specimen fired at $1050^{\circ}C$ showed the formation of well-crystallized whisker-type wollastonite grains and the highest compressive strength.

  • For micro electrochemical machining (ECM), tool electrodes with various sizes and shapes are necessary. In this paper, tool electrodes were fabricated by micro electrical discharge machining (EDM). Electrode material is tungsten carbide which has high rigidity and good conductivity for micro electrochemical machining. Disk-type and sphere-type electrodes were fabricated to prevent taper shape of side walls or to produce spherical features. Various 3D micro structures were fabricated by electrochemical milling with developed electrodes.

트레이형 현립분리기의 분리성능에 관한 연구 (Study on the Separation Performance of a Tray-type Paddy Separator)

  • The milling plants in Korea have been generally used the paddy-separator that operated in accordance with the principle of sieving action. This type of paddy separator was considered as inefficient, especially in relation to the new high-yielding varieties which have different size characteristics within their varieties and also as compared to traditional varieties. With the installation of modern paddy separator it may be possible to increase the overall milling system efficiency and to reduce the grain loss. This study was intended to identify and define important parameters required for assessing the separation performance of a tray-type paddy separator and to determine the optimum conditions of the inclination of separator-table. The results of the study were summarized as follows : (1) Separation performance can be given by use of many parameters found from the measurement of separator outputs. such as upper-tail recovery $(\varepsilon)$, purity of upper-tail $(\gamma)$ , separation recovery of brown rice $(\alpha)$, separation recovery paddy $(\beta)$, and efficiency of separator $(\epsilon)$, Among these para-meters , $\varepsilon$, $\gamma$, $\alpha$ and $\beta$, were designated , respectively, their independent properties of the paddy separator. In addition, their modes of variation due to a varied inclination of the separation table did not indicated in the same direction . However, the efficiency of separator had an advantage to indicate the overall characteristics of the separator performance with a clear optimum inclination condition of the separator table. (2) The optimum feed rate and maximum efficiency of the separator did not occur at the identical inclination of the separator table. Thus, for its practical operation it is necessary to compromise between the qualitative and quantitative performances of the separator. (3) The optimum setting of the separator table tested in the study showed to occur at its inclination of approximately $26^\circ<$/TEX> for the front and $8^\circ<$/TEX> for lateral.

왕겨풍구의 성능(性能)에 영향(影響)을 미치는 작동요인(作動要因)에 관(關)한 연구(硏究) (The Effects of Operational Factors On the Performance of Husk Separator)

  • Husk separator is an indispensable equipment in rice milling plants. However, any basic research on the designing and operating criteria of the husk separator have rarely been conducted in Korea. According to the survey results reported recently, grain loss occurs in the process of rice husk separation at custom rice milling plants in Korea and the performance of husk separator has also not been identified. With this regard this study was conducted with a typical commercial husk separator to investigate the effect of the operational factors such as feed rate, blower speed and opening ratio on the velocity distribution in the air duct and the performance of the separator. The results are summerized as follows: 1. The average wind velocity in the primary air duct increased linearly with the blower rpm and the size of air inlet port in both cases of double type and single type operations. 2. The coefficient of variation in the horizontal wind velocities in the primary air duct was the minimum when the opening ratio was 0.22 ($0.052m^2$ of air inlet port) in both cases of single type and double type operations regardless of the blower speeds used in this test. The average wind velocity at the upper part of air duct was greater by 2-5 m/s than the velocity at the bottom part in double type operation. In case of single type operation, however, the average velocity in the middle part was greater than the upper or bottom part when the opening ratio was greater than 0.74. 3. The relationship between the overall effectiveness of separation(Ed for double type and Es for single type) and the average wind velocity (Va) in the primary air duct was expressed in the following quadratic functions. $$Ed=-190.84+106.18Va-10.052Va^2$$ ($r^2$ = 0.97782) $$Es=-223.76+106.23Va-9.1935Va^2$$ ($r^2$ = 0.97029) The average wind velocity required to obtain the overall effectiveness of separation more than 80% ranged from 4.04 m/sec to 5.84 m/sec in case of double type operation, and from 4.70 m/sec to 6.20 m/sec in case of single type. 4. An optimum wind velocity can be obtained with an increase in the blower speed or the size of air inlet port as presented in Figure 8. There was a tendency that the faster the blower speed, the narrower the control range of the air inlet port. 5. The feed rates (1850kg/hr and 2100kg/hr) adopted in this experiment did not bring about a significant difference in both the overall effectiveness of separation and the power consumption. 6. The energy consumption increased cubically with the blower speed but linearly with the size of the air inlet port. On the basis of the results described in items 1, 3, and 6, it would be more economic to adjust the size of the air inlet port larger with a relatively low blower speed than to adjust the size smaller with a relatively high speed.

기계적 밀링 및 화학적 추출법에 의해 제조한 Fe-N 및 Mn-Al계의 새로운 자성재료 (New Magnetic Phases of Fe-N and Mn-Al Alloys Produced by Mechanochemical Milling)

  • 밀링 및 화학적 처리에 의해 제조된 소재의 구조해석 및 자기적 특성은 X선회절, 투과 전자현미경, 쾨스바우어 분광 및 비탄성 중성자산란 등의 측정에 의해 조사되었다. 질화처리에 의해 제조된 ${\gamma}'-Fe_{4}N$분말의 기계적 밀링처리에 의해, 대부분의 fcc ${\gamma}'-Fe_{4}N$상은 밀링 초기단계에 bct ${\alpha}'-Fe(N)$상으로 변태를 하며, 이러한 변태는 응력유기 마르텐사이트 변태로 규정지을 수 있다. 밀링처리에 제조한 bct ${\alpha}'-Fe(N)$ 초미세 분말의 열처리에 의해 673~773 K의 온도범위에서 ${\alpha}'-Fe_{16}N_{2}$상이 부분적으로 생성되며, 이로 인해 포화자화값이 증가한다. Mn-45, 70, 85 at.% Al의 조성으로 혼합한 분말은 기계적 합금화에 의해, Al은 부분적으로 ${\alpha}-Mn$상에 고용된다. 이로 인해 ${\alpha}-Mn$형 Mn-Al합금의 자기적 성질은 상자성에서 강자성으로 특성이 변하며, 특히 밀링처리한 Mn-70 at.% Al 계에 있어서 포화자화값은 11 emu/g을 나타낸다. 한편, 밀링처리한 Mn-85 at.% Al계에서 화학적 추출법을 이용하는 것에 의해 skeleton-type의 순 ${\alpha}-Mn$분말상을 제조한 결과 포화자화값은 36 emu/g으로 급격히 증가하였다.
