The purposes of using cutting fluid during cutting have been cooling, lubricating, chip washing and anti-corroding. However, the present manufacturing industry restricts the use of cutting fluid because cutting fluid contains poisonous substances which are harmful to the human body. Therefore environmentally conscious machining and technology have more important position in machining process because cutting fluids have significant influence on the environment in milling process. In this study, environmentally conscious machining can be obtained by the way of selecting the optimum machinig conditon using the design of experiment. Cutting using oil-mist showed better cutting characteristics than dry, air and fluid cutting with respect to by cutting force, tool wear and surface roughness. Also, the optimum machining condition for cutting using oil-mist could be selected through Taguchi method.
This experiment was conducted to investigatd the variation of some apearance chemical components at National Honam Agricultural Experiment Station in Korea. the treatements consisted of five transplating times, form May 5 to July 5 at 15-day interval , and six cultivars ; two early-maturing, two mid-maturing and two latematuring cultivars. The results showed that the variatio of grain appearance such as length-wide ratio was not significantly different in early -maturing cultivars, but mid-and late-maturing cultivars made slightly a round shape of grain in case of early transplanting. Percentage of complete grain was found to be high at transplanting of MAy 20 inearly-maturing cultivars and on June 5 in mid-and late-maturing ones. PERcentage of existed embryo after milling showed high at early transplanting of May 5 for early -maturing cultivars, and at the late transplanting of June 5 in early and late maturing one. The chemical components of rice grain showed high in protein , lipid,ash and amylose content inthe earlier transplanting, and also revealed high in carbohydrates, magnesium and potassium in the later transplanting of all cultivars.
This experiment was conducted to evaluate the differences in physicochemical properties of soil, grain yield and milling recovery ratio and grain appearance of rice grown in long-term no-till and ordinary till systems. The paddy in no-till rice system was unploughed but straw-mulched for 15 years from 1988 to 2002 at the Experimental Paddy of Gyeongnam Agricultural Research and Extension Services, while the paddy in ordinary till system was ploughed and puddled every crop year, A 5cm organic layer was formed in 11-year no-till rice system, in which exchangeable cation and phosphate were accumulated. In no-till paddy organic matter, bulk density and solid phase of surface soil significantly increased, while pH, exchangeable cation, phosphate, liquid and gaseous phase decreased. Tillage made the very top soil soft, but made deep soil below 5cm significantly hard. In the 1st year of no-till, topsoil showed hard, but in the process of the time in no-till system, the top- and sub-soil showed softer, Yield and yield components of rice showed no differences between till- and no-till rice systems. Milling recovery ratio and grain appearance were not significantly different between no-till and till-rice systems.
It is understood that drum speed of threshers and the moisture content of paddy grains to be threshed, respectively, have a signific:mt effect upon rice recoveries. Threshing under an increased drum speed would give a high performance rate, which is the general practice in custom work threshing in association with the use of semiauto-t hreshers. In the connection, however, it may result in the promotion of grain cracks and brokens of the rice product after milling. No reference or determination for an opti mum drum speed of the thresher is made available for various grain moisture contents at the time of the threshing operation and for different rice varieties especially for the Tongil rice varieties. This study was Conducted to find out and determine effects of the drum speeds on grain losses. The grain loss was quantified in terms of recovery rates of rice grains after treatments. Samples of each of all treatments were taken from the grain sampling plate placed in the grain conveyor of threshers. The grain sample plate was specially provided for this experiment. The brown-rice, milling, and head-rice recJveries were tes ted in the laboratory mill, respectively. Two rice varieties, Akibare and Suweon 251, each with five levels of different moist\ulcornerure contents at harvest and six levels of different drum speeds of threshers, were selected and used for treatments in this experiment. Two conditions of materials were tested in the thresher. One condition was to thresh the experimental material immediately after cutting, referred to as the wet-material thr eshing in this study. The other was to thresh the experimental :material, dried to contain about 15-16 percent of the grain moisture under the shocking operation. This is referred to as the dry-material threshing in this study. In additioon, field measurements for the grain moistures and drum-sdeeds under actual operation practices of the traditional field threshing, were conducted with a view to comparing with results of the experimental treatments. The results of the study may be summarized as follows: 1. For threshing treatments of Japonica-type rice variety (Akibare) , the effect of drum speeds and levels of grain moisture at cutting upon brown-rice, milling, and head-rice recoveries were found statistically significant. No significant difference in these recovery rates was noticed regardless of whether the material was threshed right after cutting or after drying by the shocking operation. 2. For the Tongil-sister rice variety(Suweon 251), milling recovery for the varied drum-speed and the grain~moisture level at cutting was found statististically significant. Th milling recovery was much significant when associated with the wet-material thres\ulcornerhing compared to the dry-material threshing. 3. The optimum peripheral velocity to be maintained at the edge of teeth on the thr\ulcorneresher drum was determined and may be recommanded as that of about 12 to 13 meters per second in view of the maximum recovery rate of the milled rice. 4. The effect of the drum speed on the qualitative loss of the milled rice was much greater in the case of the Tongil variety than Japonica. This effect was also greater by the wet-material threshing than by the dry-material threshing. Therefore, to apply the wet-material threshing operation for the Tongil variety, in particular, it should be very important to introduce the kind of threshing technology which would maintain the drum speed at optimum. 5. A field survey for the actual drum speed of threshing operations for 50 threshers indicated that average peripheral velccity was 12.76m/sec., and that the range was from 10.50 to 14.90m/sec. Approximately, more than 30% of the experimented and measured threshers were being operated at speeds which exceeded the optimum speed determined and assessed in this study. Accordingly, it should be highly desirable and important to take counter-measures against these threshing practices of operational overspeed.

NC (Numerical Control) code for the tool path needs to be generated efficiently for machining of free form pockets with arbitrary wall geometry on a three axis CNC machine. The unified rough and finish cut algorithm and the tool motion is graphically simulated in Part 1. In this paper, a grid based 3D navigation algorithm simulated in Part 1 for generating NC tool path data for both linear interpolation and a combination of linear and circular interpolation for three-axis CNC milling of general pockets with sculptured bottom surfaces is experimentally performed and verified.

This paper presents the optimized approximation of finite element modeling for a complex tool holder spindle using both DOE (Design of Experiment) with Optimal Latin Hypercube (OLH) method and approximation modeling method with Radial Basis Function (RBF) neural network structure. The complex tool holder is used for holding a (milling/drilling) tool of a machine tool. The engineering problem of complex tool holder results from the twisting of spindle of tool holder. For this purpose, we present the optimized approximation of finite element modeling for a complex tool holder spindle using both DOE (Design of Experiment) with Optimal Latin Hypercube (OLH) method (specifically a module of $iSight^{(R)}$ FD-3.1) and approximation modeling method with Radial Basis Function (RBF) (another module of $iSight^{(R)}$ FD-3.1) neural network structure
In this paper, we described 23 cases of animal experiment with our pneumatic ventricular assist device and new durability-improvement method. The blood pump consists of blood housing, and back plate made by the injection molding of isoplast, and the diaphragm fabricated by dipping of polyurethane solution onto the aluminum mold. Its volume was 75 $m\ell$ and in-vitro test showed that maximum output was 4.5 $\ell$/min at the 100 mmHg. The adult female sheep with weight of 50 + 10 kg were employed for tile in-vivo experiments and the mean blood flow was sustained at 3.0 1/min. 4 animals survived more than 15 days and the longest survival time was 28 days. In the prior 10 cases, the major causes of death were the tearing of diaphragm at the diaphragm to blood housing junction. By the new mesh and alumina ball milling methods, the durability was enhanced, and its qualitative and quantitative improvement was proved via the in-vivo and in-vitro methods. Animal experiments demonstrated that all the physiologic parameters a ere maintained within the permissible ranges and no thrombus formation was observed through the visual and blood test. The in-vivo experiments demonstrated our pneumatic ventricular assist device to he one month's bridge to transplantation device.
The thermoelectric and transport properties of Ti-doped FeVSb half-Heusler alloys were studied in this study. $FeV_{1-x}Ti_xSb$ (0.1 < x < 0.5) half-Heusler alloys were synthesized by mechanical alloying process and subsequent vacuum hot pressing. After vacuum hot pressing, a near singe phase with a small fraction of second phase was obtained in this experiment. Investigation of microstructure revealed that both grain and particle sizes were decreased on doping which would influence on thermal conductivity. No foreign elements pick up from the vial was seen during milling process. Thermoelectric properties were investigated as a function of temperature and doping level. The absolute value of Seebeck coefficient showed transition from negative to positive with increasing doping concentrations ($x{\geq}0.3$). Electrical conductivity, Seebeck coefficient and power factor increased with the increasing amount of Ti contents. The lattice thermal conductivity decreased considerably, possibly due to the mass disorder and grain boundary scattering. All of these turned out to increase in power factor significantly. As a result, the thermoelectric figure of merit increased comprehensively with Ti doping for this experiment, resulting in maximum thermoelectric figure of merit for $FeV_{0.7}Ti_{0.3}Sb$ at 658 K.

The function of coolant in machining is to reduce the frictional force in the contact area in between the tool and the material, and to increase the precision by cooling the work-piece and the tool, to make the machining surface uniform, and to extend the tool life. However, cutting oil is harmful to the human body because it uses chlorine-based extreme pressure additives to cause environmental pollutants. In this study, the effect of cutting temperature and surface roughness of titanium alloy for medical purpose (Ti-6Al-7Nb) in eco-friendly ADL slot shape machining was investigated using the response surface analysis method. As the design of the experiment, three levels of cutting speed, feed rate, and depth of cut were designed and the experiment was conducted using the central composite planning method. The regression expressions of cutting temperature and surface roughness were respectively obtained as quadratic functions to obtain the minimum value and optimal cutting conditions. The values from this formula and the experimental values were compared. As a result, this study makes and establishes the basis to prevent environmental pollution caused by the use of coolant and to replace it with ADL (Aerosol Dry Lubricant) machining that uses a very small amount of vegetable oil with high pressure.
