Defense minister of the ROK, Kim Bong-sin suggested that the ROK′s military build-up policy will change from "scenario-based" to "capability-based". Entering the 1990s the ROK′s military build-up policy met difficulties to accomplish its goal, modernizing and strengthening of its force structure and weapon systems because of limited budget. The concept of capability-based military build-up could commit a fault in estimating total amount of defense resources required for force planing. This is because that the total amount of defense resources related to force plan for the 15 years is fixed to embody military strategy. The concept of capability-based military build-up plays a role as a constraint in choosing a military strategy. This has no connection with military build-up. Therefore the resources of mid-term military build-up program and scale of annual defense budget could be affected by the situations of its national economy. In this respect, the scale of annual defense budget and resources could be changed in accordance with national economic condition, however, the total amount of resources required to build-up military force for 15 years, namely resources of military force planing requirement for 15 years, is given already for the accomplishment of military strategy. The purpose of this study is to seek a direction of the ROK′s military build-up policy in a viewpoint of capability-based military build-up.
The medical system of the Central Military Command in the late Joseon Dynasty was practiced by military yakbang (clinicians 藥房), acupuncturists, and horse veterinarians. By analyzing and verifying various literatures, the following conclusions were obtained: 1) In the late Joseon Dynasty, military yakbang prioritized internal medical treatment over surgical treatment. Military yakbang were recognized before military acupuncturists were and had more medicinal gardens. This can be associated with the characteristics of the Military Medical Specialized Book that focuses on drug prescription. 2) The positions of military yakbang and military acupuncturists were not preferred by the Western Medical Offices (洋醫司). For example, in the latter days of King Sukjong's reign, positions were appointed from the Western Medical Offices but, on appeal, outside doctors were included as well. This is understood in terms of salary levels and guarantees of career opportunities. 3) The military acupuncturist was not selected based on ability as per the rules. If that was the case, more military acupuncturists would have been selected as royal acupuncturists (內鍼醫) under the system that continued until the late 19th century. In the future, it is expected that comparative studies will be conducted between local military medicine and the early Joseon's military medicine, thereby intensifying research on military medicine in the Joseon Dynasty.
This is a study on the military costumes of Hunryeondogam, which was the center of Five Military Camps in the mid and the late Joseon dynasty. I confirmed the characteristics and system of military costumes of Hunryeondogam by document research and positive research. The military organization of Hunryeondogam was comprised of the high-ranking military officers such as Hunryeondaejang, Junggun, Cheonchong, Byeoljang and Gukbyeoljang, the mid and low ranking military officers such as Pachong, Chogwa and soldiers. And the military costume of Hunryeondogam included Gapju, Yoongbok and Goonbok for military officers and all kinds of military uniforms for soldiers. Imjin war and ritualized military ceremonies in the era of peace had influence on the military costume. Officers, for example, were wearing Dangap and soldiers were wearing Cheolgap or Pigap that depended on the branch of the army. Politically, kings in the mid and the late Joseon had organized military organizations to strengthen their royal authority. I think that the policy can be effectively seen by observing the military costume system. The qualitative differences in cloth materials and the presence or absence of patterns of Goonbok, the qualitative differences in the decoration of Jeonrip and the presence or absence of Yodae were able to distinguish the identity and the rank. An assumption can be made that these things could have been affected by social causes, such as frequent trips of the King and stable society. This cause could be influence on substitute Yoongbok with Goonbok that from the low ranking military officers to the high ranking military officers of Hunryeondogam. The societal changes in the mid and the late Joseon dynasty are reflected on the military costumes system of Hunryeondogam.

However, the stress level for adolescents from military families was higher than adolescents from non-military families and adolescents from non-military families adapted better to school than adolescents from military families. Secondly, family dynamic, attachment to fathers, and stress influenced school adaptation by adolescents of non-military families and family dynamic and the attachment to friends influenced the adaptation to school by adolescents from military families.
In present, advanced countries in the world are seen concentring on Military Transformation to create new military capability as there is a shift in Warfare Paradigm. Especially, advanced information technology constructs system of systems with abilities of battle visualization, information sharing in battlefield, long-range strike capability that are interoperable and combined. Corresponding to this, engagement methods and organizations are being progressively developed. The purpose of this thesis is overview of newly developing Warfare Paradigm and analysis of tendency of Military Transformation that advanced countries are pursuing preparation to this. Above all, specific aspects and contents of the Warfare Paradigm which emerged by information age were summarized. Subsequently, Military Transformation which provides the basic concepts and principles to the advanced countries in the world for the creation of new military capability was discussed. Based on the stress process model, this study examined the process of how military personnel's occupational characteristics (i.e., long and unspecified work hours, frequent moving) is associated with their wives' marital satisfaction and parenting stress. We focused on whether the wives' perception toward the characteristics of military occupation and the wives' military family pride mediated the association. An online survey was conducted with 323 women married to professional active-duty military husbands, had at least one preschool child, and lived with the husband and child. Using structural equation modeling, we found that the wives' perception of military occupational characteristics and military family pride mediated the relationship between their husband's work hours and the wives' marital satisfaction and parenting stress. This serial multiple mediation indicated that the longer and more unspecified the husband's work hours were, the more negative the wife's perceptions were towards his military occupation, which led to lower marital satisfaction and higher parenting stress. The single mediation effect of negative perceptions was also significant. Frequent moving was indirectly related to the wives' marital satisfaction and parenting stress through only the wives' negative perceptions toward military occupational characteristics. This result indicates that military spouses who experienced frequent moves are likely to have more negative attitudes toward military occupation, which leads to lower marital satisfactions and higher parenting stress. This study contributes to the literature by identifying the underlying mechanisms between military occupational characteristics and military wives' family life through the mediating roles of negative perceptions and military family pride.
This study focused on how to supplement and develop military spiritual education in response to promotion of peace and prosperity and Change of Security Environment on the Korean Peninsula. In order to succeed in the peace and prosperity on the Korean Peninsula policy, Strengthening the military spiritual education is necessary. This study was analyzed through the survey and the results are as follows: First, the awareness level of military spiritual education is more than 68%. Second, the satisfaction level of education has been quit motivated, but, the respondents demands various methods of eduction. Third, the current mental power scores showed no significant difference for environmental change. In addition, based on the results of the research, the problem of military spiritual education is as follows. It is not enough to secure the identity that can firmly support the era of peace and prosperity on the Korean peninsula. Poor budget support might hinder improving poor education facilities and outdated equipment. Furthermore, there is a lack of research on future-oriented educational system in support of traditional education methods of repetition-type repeated education and unification. Therefore, we deducted the following development strategies for the military spiritual education in this paper. First, it is necessary to strengthen the military spiritual education to support the era of peace and prosperity on the Korean Peninsula. Second, for enhancing educational environments, the educational facilities and equipments should be improved by understanding the characteristics of the education target. Third, the integrated management of military research institutes specialized in military spiritual education should be pursued as a system development for ensuring the continuous effect of education. In conclusion, continuous attention and research are needed to establish national perspective and national security perspective, raise the military spirit and utilize various education development programs in order to develop efficient military spiritual education in the future.
