This study investigates the evolution processes of alternate bars in the channel with bank stability by vegetation by laboratory experiment. Laboratory experiments are conducted to elucidate the behavior of alternate bars by the influence of riparian vegetation on the rivers with erodible banks. To control bank stability of the channel, the actual vegetation, alfalfa, is grown by adjusting the density of alfalfa on the flood plain. As the vegetation density increases in the flood plain, the bank erosion rates and the channel widening rates decrease and the bank stability increases. The alternate bars migrate slow downstream over time. Moreover, the bars in a channel with strong banks migrate rapidly, which is related with the aspect ratio, that is, width to depth ratio. The bar wavelength decrease with vegetation density. Our laboratory experiments show that the behavior of bars differ according to bank strength.

Interrupted creep tests were carried out on the Mod.9Cr-1Mo steel in order to investigate the structural degradation during creep. The ranges of creep stress and temperature were from 71 to 167MPa and 873 to 923k, respectively. The change of hardness and tempered martensitic lath width were measured in the grip and gauge parts of interrupted specimens. The lath structure was thermally stable in static conditions, but was not stable during creep, and the structural evolution was enhanced by creep strain. The relation between the change in lath width and strain was described in the from, $\delta$W= a ($W_s-W_o$)$cdot;varepsilon$, where $\varepsilon$ is the strain, $W_o$is the initial lath width, $W_s$ is the final lath width depending solely on stress, and a is the constant of the magnitude of 0.67 $\mu$m /strain. The change in Victors hardness was expressed by a one-valued function of creep life consumption ratio. Based on the empirical relation between strain and lath width, a model was proposed to explain the relation between change in hardness and creep life consumption ratio. The model revealed that about 65$%$ of dislocations in lath structures were eliminated by the migration of subboundaries.
Amount of residual ink solvent on the packaging materials from Korea, Japan and Europe was measured and compared. The amount of packaging materials from Korea was much higher than that of Japan and Europe. To reduce the residual amounts of ink solvent, aging condition of printed packaging materials including aging time and temperature was modified and evaluated. Aging with high temperature and short time ($60^{\circ}C$ and 24 hours) was more effective for reduction of residual amount of ink solvent than that with low temperature and long time. To find out change of reduction pattern of residual amount of solvent according to plastic packaging material, several monolayer and multilayer packaging materials were selected. Among the monolayer packaging materials, the amount of EVOH and PET was lower than that of polyolefin plastic film including PE and PP. PP/EVOH/PET among the selected multilayer film showed the lowest amount of residual ink solvent on food packaging materials. Result of this research revealed that the residual amount of ink solvent can be reduced by proper selection of aging condition with and by appropriate application of mutilayer plastic film.
Effect of the particle size of $MgTiO_3$ and $CaTiO_3$ on the microstructural evolution during sintering of $0.93MgTiO_3-0.07CaTiO_3$ system was investigated. Microwave dielectric characteristics of the sintered ceramics were also measured. The microstructural evolutions were explained with an emphasis on the entrapping behavior of $CaTiO_3$ grain into the $MgTiO_3$ grain and were correlated with microwave dielectric characteristics. With an increasing particle size ratio between $CaTiO_3$and $MgTiO_3$, the fraction of entraped $CaTiO_3$ grains increased, which grain growth of $MgTiO_3$were concurrently accelerated due to decreasing drag force of its boundary migration. Besides, $CaTiO_3$-grain entrapment into the $MgTiO_3$grain interior led to decreaseing quality factor values.

While the reliability of bulk insulation has become important particularly in multilayer boards and embedded boards, electronics are to be used under various environments such as at high temperature and in high humidity. We observed internal space charge behavior for two types of epoxy composites under dc electric fields to investigate the influence of water at high temperature. In the case of glass/epoxy specimen, homocharge is observed at water-treated specimen, and spatial oscillations become clearer in the water-treated specimens. Electric field in the vicinity of the electrodes shows the injection of homocharge. In aramid/epoxy specimens, heterocharge is observed at water-treated specimens, i.e. negative charge accumulates near the anode, while positive charge accumulates near the cathode. Electric field is enhanced just before each electrode. In order to further examine the mechanism of space charge formation, we have developed a new system that allows in situ space charge observation during ion migration tests at high temperature and high humidity. Using this in situ system.
Over the past few decades, changes in patterns of behavior (e.g., diet, smoking, alcohol consumption, and physical activity) have led to major changes in health status, characterized by increases in obesity, Type II diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular disease, and some cancers. This epidemiologic transition is largely the result of rapid increases in immigration to developed countries and rural-urban migration within developing countries, which is usually accompanied by environmental and lifestyle changes. In particular, adoption of “Western” dietary patterns, which tend to be high in fat and low in fruits and vegetables, is of concern since diet is a potent contributor to chronic disease risk. However, until recently, the process by which immigrants and rural-urban migrants adopt the dietary practices predominant in their new environments, known as dietary acculturation, has received very little research attention. Dietary acculturation is multidimensional, dynamic, and complex, and varies considerably depending on a variety of personal, cultural, and environmental characteristics. Therefore, to intervene successfully on the negative aspects of dietary acculturation, it is important to understand the process and identify factors that predispose and enable it to occur. The purpose of this article is to provide a practical model for understanding and investigating the effect of dietary acculturation on food and nutrient intake. Thus, this report 1) gives an overview of acculturation, 2) defines dietary acculturation and presents a model for how it occurs, 3) discusses measurement issues around dietary acculturation,4) reviews the literature on dietary acculturation in Korean Americans; 4) suggests a paradigm for acculturation research; and 5) offers some recommendations for future research in this area.

Emotion directly affects consumer buying behavior. This study examines Chinese consumers' emotion elicitation process toward a U.S. apparel brand in the Chinese market. Employing a cognitive appraisal theory, this study proposed and tested a conceptual model incorporating three factors of consumer global orientation as antecedents of consumer emotion and purchase intention as a consequence of emotion. Among the ten proposed hypotheses, eight were supported. Of the three antecedents of consumer emotion, exposure to global mass media and cultural openness positively increased Chinese consumers' appraisals of a U.S. apparel brand. Unlike these two antecedents, the effects of exposure to mass migration on consumer appraisals were found to be non significant. The relationships between appraisal dimensions and positive emotion were all supported. Finally, this study confirmed that positive emotions increased Chinese consumers' purchase intentions of a U.S. apparel brand. Theoretical and managerial implications were discussed based on the findings.

Electromigration characteristics of $SnAg_3Cu_{0.7}$ and eutectic SnPb solder were studied using thin stripe-type test structures. Significant changes in the microstructure of two solders were observed after electromigration test, in which the temperature and the current density were varied from 90 to $110^{\circ}C$ and from $4.0\times10^4\;A/cm^2\;to\;9.2\times10^4\;A/cm^2$. In SnAgCu solders, hillocks were main]y observed near the anode end. From resistance measurements, it was calculated that the activation energy of the SnAgCu solder for electromigration was 1.04 eV And in eutectic SnPb without the effect of pads, while depleted region was found near cathode end, Sn-rich hillocks were observed near the anode end. During eutectic SnPb electromigration, it were observed that electromigration behavior had two migration modes.
Elastic waves provide an important information about the soil mass in the near-surface. Soil properties in relation to elastic wave parameters are clarified to facilitate the application of geophysical technique to soil characterization. As an example, experiments are performed to gain further insight into the behavior of unsaturated particulate materials using bender elements. The small strain stiffness is continuously measured on specimens subjected to drying, and changes in stiffness are related to changes in interparticle forces such as capillarity, bonding due to ion sharing, buttress effect due to fine migration, and cementation due to salt precipitation. The rate of menisci regeneration is studied after a perturbation as well. Finally, several phenomena associated with the evolution of capillary forces during drying are identified.
Skin-derived precursors (SKPs) have potential to differentiate to various cell types including osteoblasts, adipocytes and neurons. SKPs are a candidate for cell-based therapy since they are easily accessible and have multipotency. Most mammalian cells are exposed to a low oxygen environment with 1 to 5% $O_2$ concentration in vivo, while 21% $O_2$ concentration is common in in vitro culture. The difference between in vitro and in vivo $O_2$ concentration may affect to the behavior of cultured cells. In this report, we investigated the effect of hypoxic condition on stemness and proliferation of SKPs. The results indicated that SKPs exposed to hypoxic condition for 5 days showed no change in proliferation. In terms of mRNA expression, hypoxia maintained expression of stemness markers; whereas, oncogenes, such as Klf4 and c-Myc, were downregulated, and the expression of Nestin, related to cancer migration, was also downregulated. Thus, SKPs cultured in hypoxia may reduce the risk of cancer in SKP cell-based therapy.
