Quad-Spiral Defected Ground Structure를 이용한 저역통과 여파기 설계 (A design of a lowpass filter using Quad-Spiral Defected Ground Structure)

  • A new structure to design low pass filters (LPFs) is presented rho proposed structure has the etched shape of Quad-Spiral DGS(Defected Ground Structure) on microstrip transmission lines. By extracting the equivalent circuit elements of unit Quad-Spiral DGS, LPFs are designed easily. The equivalent circuit of Quad-Spiral DGS consists of a step impedance resonator and lumped elements. The proposed LPF provided steep rejection characteristics with 5-poles. Experimental results show excellent agreements with circuit simulation results in wide band and the validity of our circuit modeling for LPF design. The result shows another possibility of Quad Spiral DGS for microwave devices.

광대역 고조파 감쇠특성을 갖는 소형화된 링-하이브리드의 설계 (A Design of Miniaturized Ring-Hybrid Coupler with Broadband Harmonic Attenuation Property)

  • Folded lines are applied to design a compact microstrip ring hybrid. Using the proposed structure we achieve both significant size reduction and good harmonic suppression with the same results of conventional ring hybrid at 2.41GHz. Including the third harmonic frequency, up to 11GHz band harmonics are suppressed to -20dB. The size of the proposed ring-hybrid is reduced to one forth of the conventional ring hybrid. The measured frequency responses agree well with simulated ones.

  • Varactor 다이오드와 branch coupler를 이용한 반사형 아날로그 위상 변위기 설계에 대하여 기술하였다. 1단의 위상 변위기로 위상 변위를 크게 하기 위하여 마이크로 스트립 stub기법을 사용하였으며 2.260GHz 주파수대에서 제작 결과 170$^{\circ}$의 위상이 변화함을 확인하였다. 측정된 삽입손실을 3㏈ 이하이었고. 반사 손실은 12㏈ 이상이었다. 본 논문에서는 설계 기법과 제자 및 실험 결과를 상세히 기술하였다.

  • 본 논문에서는 임피던스 정한 방법을 이용하여 IMT-2000 주파수 대역인 2.155 GHz 대역에 사용할 수 있는 능통 여파기를 설계 및 제작하였다. 임피던스 정합과 공진기를 구현하기 위하여 아미크로스트립 랑니을 이용하였다. 능동 여파기의 측정결과 중심주과수 2.18 GHz에서 대역폭 75 MHz, 삽입 이득 14.1 ㏈, 중심주파수를 기준으로 $\pm$200 MHz 떨어진 지점에서 23㏈의 가쇄 특성을 보였다.

  • We present the design and fabrication of a 60 GHz medium power amplifier monolithic microwave integrated circuit with excellent gain-flatness for a 60 GHz radio-over-fiber system. The circuit has a 4-stage structure using microstrip coupled lines instead of metal-insulator-metal capacitors for unconditional stability of the amplifier and yield enhancement. The gains of each stage of the amplifier are modified to provide broadband characteristics of input/output matching for the first and fourth stages and to achieve higher gains for the second and third stages to improve the gain-flatness of the amplifier for wideband.

A SiGe HBT Variable Gain Driver Amplifier for 5-GHz Applications

  • A monolithic SiGe HBT variable gain driver amplifier(VGDA) with high dB-linear gain control and high linearity has been developed as a driver amplifier with ground-shielded microstrip lines for 5-GHz transmitters. The VGDA consists of three blocks such as the cascode gain-control stage, fixed-gain output stage, and voltage control block. The circuit elements were optimized by using the Agilent Technologies' ADSs. The VGDA was implemented in STMicroelectronics' 0.35${\mu}m$ Si-BiCMOS process. The VGDA exhibits a dynamic gain control range of 34 dB with the control voltage range from 0 to 2.3 V in 5.15-5.35 GHz band. At 5.15 GHz, maximum gain and attenuation are 10.5 dB and -23.6 dB, respectively. The amplifier also produces a 1-dB gain-compression output power of -3 dBm and output third-order intercept point of 7.5 dBm. Input/output voltage standing wave ratios of the VGDA keep low and constant despite change in the gain-control voltage.

  • As anti-crash and pre-crash systems in vehicles become more extensively used, the need for high performance short-range radars is playing an increasing role. This paper presents the design of a micromachined, ultra-wideband beamformer centered at 24 GHz for automotive short-range radar systems. This beamformer is a Butler matrix designed using ultra-wideband transmission-line couplers, which consist of a multilayered structure that exhibits wider bandwidth compared to conventional microstrip branch-line couplers. The circuit has been designed on a quartz substrate, and to achieve the desired coupling, lines suspended on BCB layers located at specific parts of the circuit were used, achieving a three metal layered structure in form of wide microstrips, that give low loss and a wideband response. In this paper the design and fabrication procedure of the proposed beamformer are fully described.

BLT 방정식과 수치해석 기법을 이용한 전송 선로의 커플링 효과 분석 (Analysis of Coupling Effects in Transmission Lines Using the BLT Equation and Numerical Methods)

  • The electromagnetic topology and the BLT equation has been used as useful techniques to analyze coupling effects of huge devices. But in the case of systems including complex parts, applying the BLT equation can be difficult to manifest the complex parts with analytic solutions. To resolve this problem, a numerical method can be used to parts of the whole system in advance. In this paper, a microstrip line filter is analyzed using the BLT equation combined with numerical solutions. Consequently, achieved graphs from the BLT equation show good agreements with graphs obtained using a numerical method only.

  • In this paper, basic characteristics of transmission line employing PPGM (periodically perforated ground metal) were investigated using theoretical and experimental analysis.According to the results, unlike the conventional PBG (photonic band gap) structures, the characteristic impedance of the transmission line employing PPGM structure showed a real value, which exhibited a very small dependency on frequency. The transmission line employing PPGM structure showed a loss (per quarter wave length) higher by $0.1{\sim}0.2\;dB$ than the conventional microstrip line. According to the investigation of the dependency of RF characteristic on ground condition, the RF characteristic of the transmission line employing PPGM structure was hardly affected by the ground condition in the frequency lower than Ku band, but fairly affected in the frequency higher than Ku band, which indicated that coplanar waveguide employing PPGM structure was optimal for RF characteristic and reduction of size. Considering above results, impedance transformer was developed using coplanar waveguide with PPGM structure for the first time, and good RF characteristics were observed from the impedance transformer. In case that {\lambda}/4$ impedance transformer with a center frequency of 9 GHz was fabricated for a impedance transformation from 20 to10 {\Omega}$, the line width and length were 20 and $500\;{\mu}m$, respectively, and its size was only 0.64 % of the impedance transformer fabricated with conventional microstrip lines. Above results indicate that the transmission line employing PPGM is a promising candidate for a development of matching and passive elements on MMIC.

DGS를 이용한 이중 대역 모노폴 안테나의 설계 및 제작 (A Design and Implementation of Dual-band Monopole Antenna with DGS)

  • 본 논문에서는 DGS(: Defected Ground Structure)을 적용하여 WLAN 시스템에 적용 가능한 모노폴 안테나를 설계, 제작 및 측정하였다. 제안된 안테나는 마이크로스트립 급전을 바탕으로 두 개의 선로와 DGS를 갖도록 설계하여 이중대역 특성을 갖도록 하였다. 상용 툴인 HFSS을 사용하여 $W_2$, $L_{10}$, $W_3$과 DGS 파라미터에 대한 시뮬레이션을 수행하여 최적화된 수치를 얻었다. 제안된 안테나는 $21.0{\times}36.0{\times}1.6mm^3$의 크기로 유전율 4.4인 FR-4 기판 위에 설계 및 제작되었다. 제작 결과, 제안된 안테나는 -10 dB 임피던스 대역폭을 기준으로 700 MHz (2.10~2.80 GHz) 그리고 1,780 MHz(5.02~6.80 GHz)의 대역폭을 얻었다. 또한, 제안된 안테나의 측정 이득과 방사패턴 특성이 요구되는 이중대역에서 제시되었다.
