Development of Non-contact Image Measuring Technique for Evaluating Micro-relief (미세주름 측정을 위한 비접촉식 영상측정기술의 발전)

  • Assurance of the objectivity and reproducibility is a major key point in wrinkle measurement used for evaluating the degree of skin aging. The measurement of relief is quickly converted to a non-contact method, of which tools or instruments do not come in contact with skin directly, to minimize the artificial effects which influence the shape or depth of the relief. Here, we showed how wrinkle measurement techniques have been changed briefly and compared PRIMOS and replica method in the point of view of measurement principle and features, the former is non-contact fringe projection tool and the latter is contact type of the method.

Real-coded Micro-Genetic Algorithm for Nonlinear Constrained Engineering Designs

  • The performance of optimisation methods, based on penalty functions, is highly problem- dependent and many methods require additional tuning of some variables. This additional tuning is the influences of penalty coefficient, which depend strongly on the degree of constraint violation. Moreover, Binary-coded Genetic Algorithm (BGA) meets certain difficulties when dealing with continuous and/or discrete search spaces with large dimensions. With the above reasons, Real-coded Micro-Genetic Algorithm (R$\mu$GA) is proposed to find the global optimum of continuous and/or discrete nonlinear constrained engineering problems without handling any of penalty functions. R$\mu$GA can help in avoiding the premature convergence and search for global solution-spaces, because of its wide spread applicability, global perspective and inherent parallelism. The proposed R$\mu$GA approach has been demonstrated by solving three different engineering design problems. From the simulation results, it has been concluded that R$\mu$GA is an effective global optimisation tool for solving continuous and/or discrete nonlinear constrained real­world optimisation problems.

Green Tea Extract Containing Piper retrofractum Fruit Ameliorates DSS-Induced Colitis via Modulating MicroRNA-21 Expression and NF-κB Activity

  • The aim of the present study was to examine the effect of green tea extract containing Piper retrofractum fruit (GTP) on dextran-sulfate-sodium (DSS)-induced colitis, the regulatory mechanisms of microRNA (miR)-21, and the nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) pathway. Different doses of GTP (50, 100, and 200 mg/kg) were administered orally once daily for 14 days, followed by GTP with 3% DSS for 7 days. Compared with the DSS-treated control, GTP administration alleviated clinical symptoms, including the disease activity index (DAI), colon shortening, and the degree of histological damage. Moreover, GTP suppressed miR-21 expression and NF-κB activity in colon tissue of DSS-induced colitis mice. The mRNA levels of inflammatory mediators, such as tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), interleukin 6 (IL-6), interleukin-1β (IL-1β), inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), were downregulated by GTP. Colonic nitric oxide (NO) and prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) production, and myeloperoxidase (MPO) activity were also lowered by GTP. Taken together, our results revealed that GTP inhibits DSS-induced colonic inflammation by suppressing miR-21 expression and NF-κB activity, suggesting that it may be used as a potential functional material for improving colitis.

  • Bi-layer Mo films were deposited on soda-lime glass substrates using DC magnetron supttering. Increasing gas pressure, the resistivity varied from $1\times10^{-5}\; to\; 8.3\times10^{-3}\; \Omega.cm$. Furthermore, stress direction yielded compressive-to-tensile transition stress curves. The micro-structure of the compressively-stressed film which had poor adhesion consists of tightly packed columns, but of the tensile-stressed films had less dense structure. Under all gas pressure conditions, Mo films exhibited distinctly increasing optical reflection with decreasing gas pressure. The expansion of (110) peak width with the gas pressure meant the worse crystalline growth. The impurity levels in the Mo film exhibited highly concentrated Na, Se and O elements due to less dense micro-structure. The degree of Na diffusion depends on the type of the glass substrate used and the nature of the Mo film.

  • In this paper, we have treated the modeling and development of three degree of freedom parallel manipulator for micromotion based on the Stewart platform type parallel structure. the kinematic modeling was derived from the relation between base coordinate and platform anr the dynamic modeling was from the method of Kinematic Influence Coefficients(KIC) and transferring of the generalized coordinates. Using this method, we presented the method to choose the actuator and joint by investigating the actuating forces needed when the manipulator moves along the given trajectory. In the end, the prototype manipulator was developmented and evaluated.

  • In this paper, a single degree-of freedom gimbal-structured micro gyroscope and signal processing part including capacitive sensing circuits and filters are designed, fabricated and experimented. We use capacitive sensing method with excitation signal, i.e. sensing excitation signal, to measure the displacement of the moving plate. So, Sensing Output Signal is modulated twice by the excitation signal and driving signal, which is profitable to decouple the driving and sensing mode, to reduce the effect of the acceleration, and to curtail the noises due to parasitic capacitance and driving signal.   • Materials with specific micro-structural shape can exhibit negative Poisson's ratio. These materials can be widely used in structural applications because of their high resilience and resistance to impact. Specially, in the field of artificial implant's material, they have many potential applications. In this study, we investigated the Poisson's ratio and the ratio(E$_{e}$/E) of the elastic modulus of rotational particle structures based on structural design variables using finite element method. As the ratio of fibril's length to particle's diameter increased and the ratio of fibril's diameter to fibril's length decreased fixing the fibril's angle with 45 degree. the negative Poisson effect of rotational particle structures increased. The ratio of elastic modulus of these structures decreased with Poisson's ratio. The results show the reasonable values as compared with the previous analytical results.s.

  • A rotating device driven by an Inchworm motor was designed and fabricated to be used as an angie standard system. 1. PZT was adopted as a driving source, while the movement of PZT was guided by the leaf spring employing the elastic transformation of metals. 2. The device could rotate in a 360-degree arc. continuously Performance test of the device showed about 0.02 sec. of the minimum revolution angle and 1/15 rpm of the maimum revolution speed. 3.   • In this paper, a micro balanced filter in magnetically coupled LC resonators is proposed, designed, simulated by using FR-4 PCB substrate for low cost, small volume IEEE 802. 11a wireless LAN application. Two pair of coupled LC resonators using magnetic coupling of embedded inductors are applied to obtain bandpass transmission response and improve their phase and magnitude imbalance characteristics. In addition, high dielectric composite film is applied to fabricate the high Q MIM capacitors with small size and high capacitance density. It has an insertion loss of 1.4 dB, a return loss of 10 dB, a phase imbalance of 0.25 degree, and magnitude imbalance of 0.17 dB at frequency bandwidth of 200 MHz ranged from 5.15 GHz to 5.35 GHz, respectively. The proposed balanced filter has a small volume of $1.1mm{\times}1.3mm{\times}0.6mm$ (height).

Stress Measurement of films using surface micromachined test structures (표면 미세 가공된 구조체를 이용한 박막의 응력 측정)

  • The microfabricated test structures were used in order to evaluate the stress characteristics in films. The test structures were fabricated using surface micromachining technique, including HF vapor phase etching as an effective release method. The fabricated structures were micro strain gauge, cantilever-type vernier gauge and bridge for stress measurement, and cantilever for stress gradient measurement. The strain was measures by observing the deformation of the structures occurred after release etching and the amount of deformation can be detected by micro vernier gauge, which has gauge resolution of 0.2${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. The detection principles and the degree of precision for the measured strain were also discussed. The characteristics of residual stress in LPCVD polysilicon films were studied using these test structures. The stress gradient due to the stress variation through the film thickness was calculated by measuring the deflection at the cantilever free end.
