Development of Micro Press for Forming the Micro Thin Foil Valve (마이크로 박판 밸브 성형을 위한 마이크로 프레스 개발)

  • In this paper Research development about a micro metal forming manufacturing system has been developed. A micro forming system has been achieved in Japan and it's developed micro press is limited to single forming process. To coincide with the purpose to be more practical, research and development is necessary about the press which the multi forming process is possible. We set the development of the equipment including micro deep drawing, micro punching and micro restriking process to the goal. To achieve this goal, we set the application product to a micro thin foil valve which is used in the micro pump module. The compound die set has been designed and manufactured to make two step process. The material of thin foil valve is SUS-304 and its thickness is 50$\mu$m. We can get a good forming results from micro punching experiments in this paper.

  • In this paper Research development about a micro metal forming manufacturing system has been developed. A micro forming system has been achieved in Japan and it's developed micro press is limited to single forming process.   • Press accidents are one of the most popular industrial accidents. Two factors are considered to lead to press accidents, one is human, the other press machine itself. Accident itself is analyzed and concluded to be due to incomplete interaction between press and human. A press design considering safety as a methodology is introduced to reduce the industrial accidents by press machine, that is micro-inching locking system.

  • In this paper, Experimental results on the measurement of mechanical properties of fine patterns in the MEMS structure are described. The mechanical properties of embossing patterns on metallic thin foil is measured using the nano indentation system, that is developed by Korea Institute of Industrial Technology(KITECH). These micro embossing patterns are fabricated using CIP(Cold Isostatic Press) process on micro metallic thin foils(Al-1100) that are made by rolling process. These embossing patterned metallic thin foils(Al-1100) are used in the reflecting plate of BLU(Back Light Unit) and electrical/mechanical MEMS components. If these mechanical properties of fine patterns are utilized in a design procedure, the optimal design can be achieved in aspects of reliability as well as economy.

  • In this paper we present a 3-DOF manipulator of which task is to unload the product from a micro factory. The micro factory developed by KITECH presses sheet metal to produce a micro valve that is used for micro pump. Our research is focused on the development of a small-sized unloading manipulator which works in the narrow workspace between the dies. We have implemented pick-and-place task with vacuum pressure and 3-DOF motion with stepping motors. We present the design procedures and analysis required in each module.

  • In this paper, the low frequency vibration forming system is developed for micro-patterns formation on the metal substrate. many researchers have studied about micro-forming technologies such as micro deep drawing, press forming, forging, extrusion etc. for the formation of precise micro-patterns on the surface of metal substrates, multi-step forming process must be used to improve qualifies of the deformed patterns. Since the low frequency vibration forming system could easily deform the surface of metal substrates, several steps of multi-step forming process should be removed by using the low frequency vibration forming system. In order to find optimal process conditions, we have carried out low frequency vibration forming process with varying the vibration frequency from 110Hz to 500Hz.

Influence of wind disturbance on smart stiffness identification of building structure using limited micro-tremor observation

  • While most of researches on system identification of building structures are aimed at finding modal parameters first and identifying the corresponding physical parameters by using the transformation in terms of transfer functions and cross spectra, etc., direct physical parameter system identification methods have been proposed recently. Due to the problem of signal/noise (SN) ratios, the previous methods are restricted mostly to earthquake records or forced vibration data. In this paper, a theoretical investigation is performed on the influence of wind disturbances on stiffness identification of building structures using micro-tremor at limited floors. It is concluded that the influence of wind disturbances on stiffness identification of building structures using micro-tremor at limited floors is restricted in case of using time-series data for low-rise buildings and does not cause serious problems.

Feasibility of using biogas in a micro turbine for supplying heating, cooling and electricity for a small rural building

  • In this study, the use of a micro gas turbine system using biogas to supply heating, cooling and electricity loads of a rural building located in rural area around Tehran has been studied. Initially, the amount of energy needed by the farmhouse was calculated and then the number of needed microturbines was determined. Accordingly, the amount of substances entering biogas digester as well as tank volume were determined. The results of this study showed that village house loads including electrical, heating and cooling and hot water loads can be supplied by using a microturbine with a nominal power of 30 kW and $33.5m^3/day$ of biogas. Digester tank and reservoir tank volumes are $67m^3$ and $31.2m^3$, respectively. The cost of electricity produced by this system is 0.446 US$/kWh. For rural area in Iran, this system is not compatible with micro gas turbine and IC engine system use urban natural gas due to low price of natural gas in Iran, but it can be compatible by wind turbine, photovoltaic and hybrid system (wind turbine& photovoltaic) systems.

  • In this paper, a new type of inchworm motion actuator is developed in fabrication of actuators for micro-press machine. This is consisted of three piezoelectric actuators, one is for moving the tool guide and the other are for clamping the guide. The inchworm motor provides both high load and large displacement in small size actuator. PZT has compressive strength and often fails under tensile stress and pulling. Thus, in order to prevent failure, we have designed pre-load housing and accomplished FEM analysis. The pre-load housing was used for determining the optimal design condition by comparing the von-mises stresses with the change of hinge stiffness. Also, in order to predict the performance of the motor under certain conditions, the system model was simulated using MATLAB. This is open loop control actuator and driven by the period of input voltage.
