  • The purpose of this study was to investigate families' responses and attitudes and the experiences of Korean LGBT individuals after revealing their sexual identity and sexual orientation and to determine how families' attitudes affected the mental health of these individuals. For this purpose, in-depth interviews were performed with 12 male and female LGBT participants, ranging from 19-30 years of age, who resided in Seoul and metropolitan areas, and reported coming out to or being outed by their families. One-to-one interviews were carried out using semi-structured questions, and the data from the interviews were analyzed using consensual qualitative research (CQR). Most of the families had very negative responses and attitudes to the participants coming out and exhibited rejection or avoidant attitudes; only a few of the families responded with receptive attitudes. As a result, the LGBT participants reacted with friction and coping behaviors, such as persuasion, participation in professional counseling, abandonment or avoidance, and running away from home. Most of the effects of the families' attitudes on the participants were negative psychological effects, such as anger, sadness, a sense of alienation, depression, anxiety, fear, trauma, helplessness, lowered self-esteem, alcohol dependence, and suicidal ideation and attempt, while receptive attitudes provided a sense of stability. For all participants, they reported that they were more likely to be hurt by their families' negative attitudes than by social attitudes. This study is significant because it provides framework for specifying families' attitudes and LGBT individuals' experiences after coming out in Korean society. It also outlines LGBT individuals' coping behaviors, psychological difficulties, and the process of coming out and provides suggestions for individuals to overcome. The results are expected to help counselors create practical strategies to better understand LGBT individuals and the psychological difficulties they may experience and provide proper interventions while counseling both the individual and the family.

  • The present study explored Korean parents' perceptions of and behavior toward game use among teenagers in Korea. A total of 600 Korean mothers of teenagers residing in Seoul and five other metropolitan areas participated in the survey. The survey was constructed based on five categories of variables, including the overall perception of games and game use, specific attitudes toward game use, cognitions about and attitudes toward game addiction, factors predicting parental monitoring of children's game use, and views and opinions about what needs to be done to promote healthy game cultures as well as to prevent problematic game use among teenagers in Korea. Results indicate that the respondents' overall perceptions of and attitudes toward games and game use are negative. In contrast, attitudes toward game use of the respondent's own child are contingent upon various comparison standards. Results also indicate that the respondents tend to overestimate the possibility that their own child is addicted to games, and their perceptions of game addiction are based on a narrow range of behavioral symptoms. Additional analyses indicate that parental monitoring of teenagers' game use can be predicted by the theoretical model driven from Ajzen(1991)'s theory of planned behavior. Finally, results also indicate that, in order to deal with the problems associated with teenagers' game use, proactive approaches to promote healthy game cultures as well as various initiatives to prevent problematic game use are necessary. Implications of the findings and future direction were discussed.

  • Although this site is designed with a non-vibration excavation method for a section of 265 m, there are concerns about decline of constructability and economic feasibility. For this reason, the low-vibration electronic detonator blasting method was suggested. To evaluate the applicability of the low-vibration electronic detonator blasting method, the damage range of blasting vibration of low-vibration electronic detonator blasting applied just before the site (suggestion I) and low-vibration electronic detonator blasting constructed close range the subway like this site (suggestion II) was analyzed. As a result of comparing the blasting vibration damage ranges of the two suggestions, the damage range of suggestion II was calculated more conservatively. Considering the specificity of the close range of this site, suggestion II was selected for design change for safer construction. As a result, it is predicted that there will be no damage to the structure even if the 72 m section out of the non-vibration excavation 265 m section is changed to the Low-vibration electronic detonator blasting. And it is evaluated that high economic benefits can be obtained because the total expected excavation period can be reduced by 144 days from 662.5 days.

  • Ground subsidence on urban roads is a social issue that can lead to human and property damages. Therefore, it is crucial to detect underground cavities in advance and repair them. Underground cavity detection is mainly performed using ground penetrating radar (GPR) surveys. This process is time-consuming, as a massive amount of GPR data needs to be interpreted, and the results vary depending on the skills and subjectivity of experts. To address these problems, researchers have studied automation and quantification techniques for GPR data interpretation, and recent studies have focused on deep learning-based interpretation techniques. In this study, we described a hyperbolic event detection process based on deep learning for GPR data interpretation. To demonstrate this process, we implemented a series of algorithms introduced in the preexisting research step by step. First, a deep learning-based YOLOv3 object detection model was applied to automatically detect hyperbolic signals. Subsequently, only hyperbolic signals were extracted using the column-connection clustering (C3) algorithm. Finally, the horizontal locations of the underground cavities were determined using regression analysis. The hyperbolic event detection using the YOLOv3 object detection technique achieved 84% precision and a recall score of 92% based on AP50. The predicted horizontal locations of the four underground cavities were approximately 0.12 ~ 0.36 m away from their actual locations. Thus, we confirmed that the existing deep learning-based interpretation technique is reliable with regard to detecting the hyperbolic patterns indicating underground cavities.

  • This study empirically analyzed the effect of complex commercial facilities on the price of nearby apartments in a Hedonic price model. The spatial range of this study was the walking area of H Department Store located in Pangyo among the second new towns suburb of Seoul, and the time range was 2020. The dependent variable was the real transaction price of the apartment, and independent variable were the characteristics of the housing, the characteristics of the complex, and the characteristics of the region. As a result of the analysis, the area of exclusive use space, the transaction floor, and the highway accessibility had a positive effect on the price of the apartment, and the elapsed year had a negative effect on the price of the apartment. However, the size of the apartment had little effect on apartment prices, and the distance from the complex commercial facilities was shown to be related to apartment prices, indicating that apartment prices declined as it moved away from the complex commercial facilities. Therefore, this is much more influential than the influence of distance from subway stations on apartment price. This confirms that the effect factors of apartment prices and the size of their influence appear differently in the new town area and the existing metropolitan area.

  • Objectives: The study was to examine the features of three-dimensional(3D) face dimensions and to develop fit test panels for the labor population using respirators in South Korea. Methods: This study was part of the first-year work of a two-year-project conducted at Occupational Safety and Health Research Institute in 2021. After 3D head dimensions data were collected from Size Korea Center managing Sixth Size Korea databases, 3D face dimensions DB for the South Korean labor population was established for 21 items of face dimensions in line with the ISO/TS 16976-2 and KS A ISO 15535. With the South Korean labor population 3D face dimensions DB, in accordance with the ISO/TS 16976-2, the descriptive statistics of 3D face dimensions were calculated and two fit test panels were developed. Results: A total of 2,752 subjects were finally determined and they were 52.9% for male, 41.2% for the highest age-group of 15-29, and residents in the capital area. Mean and standard deviation were obtained for each of the 21 3D face dimensions items for the South Korean labor population. Among the items, male and female face widths were 137.6±5.7 mm, 133.2±5.0 mm, respectively. Male and female face lengths were 116.6±7.0 mm, 107.8±6.8 mm, respectively. Two new South Korean fit test panels, a bivariate test panel and a principal component analysis test panel, were developed using the 3D face dimensions DB as well. Conclusions: Using the 3D face dimensions DB, the mean and standard deviation were featured for each of the 21 items and also the two fit test panels were newly developed in the study. It is suggested that the study outputs should be utilized practically and effectively in selection, use, and management of respirators at work, expecting that respiratory protection can be furthermore improved for respirator users including labor population across the country.

  • Urban Designers and Planners are interested in creating barrier-free (BF) environments as the demand for social equity increases. BF design consists of design strategies for modifying buildings or facilities to be used by the physically disadvantaged or disabled. To construct buildings or facilities to be "Barrier-free", design standards specifically modified for the physically disadvantaged or disabled should be applied. The purpose of this study is to analyze the BF design standard used in the national laws and provide suggestions for their future improvements. In the study national laws in four countries were reviewed and important BF standards to be used in the laws were identified using a frequency analysis. The results of the frequency analysis were applied to the BF assessment criteria for sidewalk design. Then a field assessment for two sidewalks located in Seoul metropolitan region was conducted using the refined BF criteria. The findings from the field assessments indicated that current regulations were not appropriately designed to provide sufficient convenience for the disabled. It is needed to enhance the BF standards in the domestic regulations to offer sufficient mobility to the physically disadvantaged or disabled.

  • This study targeted KakaoTalk app users, mainly in Seoul and the metropolitan area, and verified the factors that had a significant impact on the intention to continuously use the app through KakaoTalk contents. Among various content characteristics, five variables were used to verify the variables that had the greatest influence on the intention to continue using, and the ones that did not. As a result of testing the five hypotheses, it was found that convenience, enjoyment, informativeness, and perceived usefulness had a significant positive(+) effect on the intention to continue using, but intimacy did not. From this, it can be determined that the majority of users use the app content because it is useful and informative, rather than because they have a sense of familiarity. In this way, the purpose of this study is to provide empirical help to factors closely related to the intention of continuous use in deriving priorities to be considered in the service planning stage as well as in terms of technical design of contents when developing mobile apps in the mobile app industry as a whole and in the field in the future. I want to provide it, but there is a meaning.
