TiAl intermetallic compound was candidated for the application to the high temperature materials such as a gas turbine exhaust valve in the automobile. However, this material dose not have ductility allowing to machinability to product. To improve the ductility, many researches conduct alloy design and heat treatment methods. We observed that the microstructure of TiAl varied with Ni, Mn elements as well as a heat treatment condition. In the case of Ni element addition, the TiAlNi intermetallic compound was precipitated at the grain boundary. When the heat treatment temperature increased from $1000^{\circ}C$ to $1300^{\circ}C$, the TiAlNi intermetallic compound was uniformly dispersed on the matrix. In the case of Mn element addition, the mixed duplex structure of ${\gamma}$-TiAl and lamellar(TiAl/$Ti_3Al$) was obtained with $1250^{\circ}C$ and $1300^{\circ}C$ heat treatment for 1 hour. When the heat treatment temperature increased from $1250^{\circ}C$ to $1300^{\circ}C$, the lamellar domain of the duplex structure was transformed near-lamellar structure.

We were studied to the effect of alloying element and retained austenite on a mechnical properties and that used steels were composed three types composition. According to the soaking temperature, a retained austenite was pricipitated in the bainitic ferrite matrix and it was pricipitated to a flake type of about $2{\mu}m$, a mixture of massive and bar type and a flake type of about $1{\mu}m$ size. Through x-ray diffraction analysis, the amount of retained austenite was increased with addition of Si and Ni for equal heat treatment condition and it was best abundanted in the soaking temperature of $855^{\circ}C$. The balance value of strength and elongation were complexly controlled not only a retained austenite formation but also a formation characteristic and shape of the retained austenite and bainite. The balance value of strength and elongation were most satisfactory obtained with "B" and "C" specimens in a firstly heat treated at $855^{\circ}C$ and the best result was that a $2840kg/mm^2.%$ with the heat teratment condition of $855^{\circ}C-400^{\circ}C$ used for "C" specimen.
The resistance of printed patterns for electrodes fabricated using printing technology should be minimized. This parameter depends on the pattern width and thickness; however, from the viewpoint of printability, the printed patterns should be printed at the designed width. The resistance of the printed patterns as well as printability is affected by various printing conditions. In this paper, the printing condition is optimized to minimize the resistance of electrodes printed by the roll-to-roll gravure method. This is done by considering the spread ratio of pattern width as a parameter of printability using design experiments. The drying temperature, dryer fan speed, and printing speed are selected as effective factors for the experiment objective. The optimized conditions are obtained and reproducibility test using these demonstrates that the optimized conditions can produce low-resistance electrodes for printability of the pattern width.
A new theoretical approach for analysis of stress around a tensioned anchor in rock is presented in this paper. The solution has been derived for semi-infinite elastic rock and anchor and for plane strain conditions. The method considers both the anchor head bearing plate and its grouted bond length embedded in depth. The solution of the tensioned rock anchor problem is obtained by superimposing the solutions of two simpler but fundamental problems: A distributed load applied at a finite portion (bearing plate area) of the rock surface and a distributed shear stress applied at the anchor-rock interface along the bond length. The solution of the first problem already exists and the solution of the shear stress distributed along the bond length is found in this study. To acquire a deep understanding of the stress distribution around a tensioned anchor in rock, an illustrative example is solved and stress contours are drawn for stress components. In order to verify the results obtained by the proposed solution, comparisons are made with finite difference method (FDM) results. Very good agreements are observed for the teoretical results in comparison with FDM.
The steam generator tubes of power plant damaged by sliding wear due to flow-induced motion of foreign object. Amount of wear have been predicted by Achard's wear equation until now. However, there are large error and low reliability, because this equation regards wear coefficient(k) as constant. The sliding wears tests have been performed at room temperature to examine parameters of wear (wear distance, contact stress). The steam generator tube material for wear test is used Inconel 600 and foreign object material is used 304 austenite stainless steel. The sliding wear tests show that the amount of wear is not linearly proportional to the wear distance(for 374 austenite stainless steel). According to experimental result, wear coefficient is not constant k but function k(s) of wear distance. The newly modified wear predictive equation V=k(s)F have small error and high reliability.
This study has examined the metallurgical microstructures and alloy compositions of 3 bronze artifacts, a vessel, a spoon and a chopstick, manufactured in the Koryo Dynasty. The results show that they were made from Cu-Sn alloys whose Sn content ranges from 22 to 24% by weight. It is of significant importance to find that they were all given special thermo-mechanical treatments during their manufacturing. It has been found that the Koryo bronze workers were well aware of the mechanical properties of ${\alpha}$, ${\beta}$, ${\gamma}$ and ${\delta}$ phases that appear in the Cu-Sn alloys. Knowing how to promote or suppress the formation of each phase, they were able to find proper alloy compositions and temperatures for the high Sn alloys to be successfully forged. The present study will detail the Koryo bronze technology as estimated from the microstructures of the 3 bronze artifacts. The results of the reproduction experiments with Cu-24%Sn will also be presented to explain how the microstructures develop and to estimate the mechanical properties of each phase.
High energy ball milling is employed to produce iron matrix- multiwall carbon nanotube (MWCNT) reinforced composite. The damage caused to MWCNT due to harsh ball milling condition and its influence on interfacial bonding is studied. Different amount of MWCNT is used to find the optimal percentage of MWCNT for avoidance of the formation of chemical reaction product at the matrix - reinforcement interface. Effect of process control agent is assessed by the use of different materials for the purpose. It is observed that ethanol as a process control agent (PCA) causes degradation of MWCNT reinforcements after milling for two hours whereas solid stearic acid used as process control agent, allows satisfactory conservation of MWCNT structure. It is further noted that at a high MWCNT content (~ 2wt.%), high energy ball milling leads to reaction of iron and carbon and forms iron carbide (cementite) at the iron-MWCNT interface. At low percentage of MWCNT, dissolution of carbon in iron takes place and the amount of reinforcement in iron matrix composite becomes negligibly small. However, under the present ball milling condition (ball to metal ratio~ 6:1 and 200 rpm vial speed) iron-1wt.% MWCNT composite of good interfacial bonding can retain the tubular structure of reinforcing MWCNT.
In this study, the activated red mud was used as a new and appropriate adsorbent for the removal of ferrocyanide and ferricyanide from aqueous solution. Predicting the removal percentage and adsorption capacity of ferro-ferricyanide by activated red mud during the adsorption process is necessary which has been done by modeling and simulation. The artificial neural network (ANN) was used to develop new models for the predictions. A back propagation algorithm model was trained to develop a predictive model. The effective variables including pH, absorbent amount, absorbent type, ionic strength, stirring rate, time, adsorbate type, and adsorbate dosage were considered as inputs of the models. The correlation coefficient value ($R^2$) and root mean square error (RMSE) values of the testing data for the removal percentage and adsorption capacity using ANN models were 0.8560, 12.5667, 0.9329, and 10.8117, respectively. The results showed that the proposed ANN models can be used to predict the removal percentage and adsorption capacity of activated red mud for the removal of ferrocyanide and ferricyanide with reasonable error.
