Effect of the Slag Former on the Metal Melting and Radionuclides Distribution in an Electric Arc Furnace

  • The characteristics of the metal melting and radionuclide distribution of the radioactive has been investigated in a lab-scale arc furnace. The slag former based on the constituents of silica, calcium oxide, aluminum oxide, borate and calcium fluoride additions was used for melting of the stainless and carbon steel. In the melting of the stainless steel, the amount of slag formation increased with an increase of the concentration of the slag former. But the effects of the slag basicity on the amount of stag formation showed a local maximum value of the slag formation with an increase of the basicity index in the melting of the stainless steel as well as in the melting of the carbon steel. With an increase of the amount of slag former addition, the trends of the cobalt distribution into the ingot and the stag depended on the kind of slag former used in the melting of the stainless steel while the effect of the slag basicity on the distribution of the cobalt was not clarified in the melting of carbon steel. Tn the melting of the carbon steel, the strontium was captured at up to $50\%$ into the slag phase. Cesium was completely eliminated from the melt of the stainless steel as well as the carbon steel and distributed to the dust phase.

중금속 오염토양에 대한 안정화 및 식물상 정화공법의 동시 적용연구 (Feasibility Test for Phytoremediation of Heavy Metals-Contaminated Soils using Various Stabilizers)

  • 본 연구에서는 중금속오염 토양에 대하여 소량의 다양한 안정화제를 이용한 안정화공법과 식물정화증진공법을 동시에 적용하여 식물상 정화공법의 보조단계로 최적의 효과를 가진 안정화제를 알아보고자 하였다. 국내의 비교적 큰 규모의 중금속 오염토양인 제련소 오염토양을 대상으로 zeolite, Mn dioxide, slag, Ca oxide, 및 magnetite를 안정화제로 처리한 후 고사리과 식물을 이용한 식물상 정화증진공법 실험을 진행하였다. 안정화제 사용여부 및 종류에 따른 토양의 중금속 추출율을 확인하였으며, 식물시료의 성장 특성과 중금속 흡수율을 확인하였다. 안정화제 적용 시 토양의 용출율은 감소되었으며 중금속의 안정화가 이루어졌으며, magnetite, calcium oxide등의 안정화제가 좋은 효과를 보였다. 식물시료의 분석결과 Pb, Cu, Zn, 그리고 Ni등의 중금속은 식물의 뿌리 부분에 높은 농도로 농집 되는 것을 확인하였고, As의 경우 잎에 높게 농집 되는 것을 확인하였다. 안정화제를 투입한 결과 식물의 성장이 촉진되어 바이오매스생산량이 증대되었다. 안정화제는 식물상 정화공법이 적용되는 비교적 장기간 동안 토양 내의 중금속의 용출을 막아주며 식물의 성장을 촉진시켜 식물상 정화공법만을 사용할 경우 염려되는 오염의 유출 등의 식물상 정화공법의 단점을 보완해줄 것으로 판단된다.

아스팔트 혼합물의 내수분손상 향상에 대한 박리방지제의 효과 (Effect of Antistripping Agent on the Enhancement of Resistance to Moisture Damage of Asphalt Mixture)

  • 본 연구에서는 아스팔트 혼합물의 수분 손상을 감소시키기 위한 박리방지제 효과에 대하여 고찰하였다. 아스팔트 박리방지제는 tetraethylene pentamine (TEPA), Triethylenetetramine (TETA), 그리고 bis(hexamethylene)-triamine (BHMT) 각각과 포름알데히드의 축합반응에 의하여 합성하였다. 또한 스테아르산 또는 팔미트산과 금속 수산화물과의 반응을 통하여 금속계 박리방지제를 합성하였다. 박리방지제가 첨가된 아스팔트 혼합물의 기계적 특성은 마샬안정도, 수침잔류안정도 및 피막률에 대하여 분석하였다. 본 연구에서 합성된 박리방지제는 아스팔트 혼합물의 수분손상을 감소시켰다. 특히 BHMT계 및 C/S (Calcium stearate hydroxide) 박리방지제가 가장 높은 수침잔류 안정도 및 피막률을 보였다. 왜냐하면 각각 아민농도의 증가, 그리고 금속계면활성제의 효과적 역할로 인하여 BHMT 박리방지제와 C/S 박리방지제는 아스팔트와 골재 사이의 접착력을 향상시켜 주었기 때문이다.

KOH/KL제올라이트 및 Ca/미역촤를 이용한 대두유의 전이에스테르화 반응 (Transesterification of Soybean Oil Using KOH/KL Zeolite and Ca/Undaria pinnatifida Char)

  • 본 연구에서는 표면적이 높은 제올라이트나 촤를 지지체로 이용해 알칼리금속을 담지시킴으로써 염기 세기를 증가시켜 전이에스테르화 반응에 있어 보다 좋은 활성을 가지는 고체촉매를 만들고자 하였다. 제올라이트는 KOH 수용액으로 담지하였고, 미역촤는 calcium nitrate를 담지하여 염기의 세기를 증가시켰다. Hammett 지시약과 $CO_2$-TPD를 통하여 촉매의 특성을 분석하였다. 대두유과 메탄올을 사용하여 바이오디젤을 합성한 후 지방산 메틸에스테르 함유량을 측정함으로서 촉매의 활성을 알아보았다. 일정량까지는 담지량과 활성이 비례하였으나, 과량 담지 시 오히려 활성이 감소하는 결과를 보였다.

Effects of Soil Amendments Application on Growth of Rice Cultivated in Soils Polluted with Heavy Metal(loid) and on the As and Cd Content in Brown Rice

  • Heavy metal(loid) contamination of rice is the main issue in abandoned metal mine area with regard to food safety. A field study was conducted in mine area to see if soil amendments treatment including calcium superphosphate, sulfur, steel slag and S-containing fertilizer could reduce As and/or Cd content in rice grain and increase the growth of rice. The As content in brown rice reduced to 60% compared to the control only in $7.0Mg\;ha^{-1}$ of steel slag treatment. Cd reduction in rice was thought to be not the effect of amendments but the result from the difference in growth and development of rice plant and this could be ascribed to low soil Cd availability to rice plant. Compared with control, increased rice yield of cultivar Hwanggeumnuri was 1.3~2.2 and $1.5Mg\;ha^{-1}$ in calcium super phosphate and S-containing fertilizer treatment, respectively and the trend was also observed in cultivar Ungwang. However, steel slag treatment reduced the Ungwang yield by $0.4{\sim}0.9Mg\;ha^{-1}$. Future work will be needed to establish the agricultural measure with which secure the safety and yield of rice simultaneously.

알루미늄 캔 스크랩의 고품위 재활용을 위한 발포금속의 제조 (Fabrication of Aluminum Foams for High Profit Recycling of Aluminum Can Scraps)

  • The main emphasis of this study is to optimize the process variables for manufacturing aluminum foam materials by direct foaming of remelted aluminum scraps. Aluminum foams were fabricated from two different raw materials, pure aluminum and used beverage cans. For both cases, $TiH_{2}$ was used as a foaming agent. Calcium was added as a thickener for the foaming of pure aluminum and no thickener was added for that of used beverage Cans because the pre-existing oxides of the used beverage cans are used as a thickener. Calcium and $TiH_{2}$ content varies from 0.5wt.% to 2.0wt.% and from 0.5wt.% to 1.5wt.%, respectively. The processing conditions, such as the effect of calcium on the melt viscosity, foaming temperature, and the optimum amount of the foaming agent with regard to the melt viscosity were discussed.

친환경 토질개량제를 이용한 도로노반 건설공사에 관한 연구 (Construction of roadbed with environmental friendly soil amendment agent)

  • The purpose of this paper is to study on the construction of roadbed with environmental friendly soil amendment agent. The special amendment agent used in this study is mainly composed of inorganic metal salts such as sodium chloride, magnesium chloride, potassium chloride, calcium chloride,, thus is friendly to the environment, and has a function of soil-cement-agent solidification. Various components of this agent weaken the negative function of humic acid and decompose humic acid itself. Then, the calcium cation of the cement can now be made contact directly to the soil surface. The project of local road demonstration of roadbed construction with special soil treatment agent was peformed in Northeast Thailand on August 1999 by the sponsor of Highway Department of Thailand. A series of field experiments including unconfined compressive strength were carried out to investigate the physical and mechanical characteristics of solidified roadbed treated by this solidifying agent. The results of this research showed that the roadbed using poor soil could be efficiently constructed by treatment of this amendment agent.

제설제가 콘크리트 및 강재에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Deicer on the Concrete and Steel)

  • In this study, calcium chloride($CaCl_2$), sodium chloride (NaCl), organic acids-containing deicer(NS 40, NS 100), mixed deicier($NaCl\;70\%\;+\;CaCl_{2}\;30\%,\;NS\;40\;70\%\;+\;CaCl_{2}\;30\%,\;NaCl\;70\%\;+\;NS\;40\;30\%,\;NS\;40\;70\%\;+\;NaCl\;30\%$) is investigated based on the laboratory test for freez-thaw resistance of concrete and corrosion of metal. As a test results, in case of the use chloride-containing deicier in area that concrete structures has subjected to freez-thaw reaction in winter season, it showed desirable method that use deicing chemicals mixed with optimum ratio rather than use one deicing chemicals when is consider to deicing performance and effects, corrosion of steel materials, freez-thaw resistance of concrete. When use various deicing chemicals mixed, NS40($70\%$)+Calcium chloride($30\%$) showed the best effective method.

  • The single-crystal structure of $CaCl_2{\cdot}2C_6H_{12}O_6{\cdot}3H_2O$ was determined with Mr=525.34, a=16.054(7) ${\AA}$, b=7.864(4) ${\AA}$, c=10.909(5) ${\AA}$, ${\beta}=127.894(8)^{\circ}$, V=1086.9(9) ${\AA}^3$, C2, Z=2 and $R$=0.0227 for 1727 observed reflections. The fructose moiety of the complex exists as a ${\beta}$-D-pyranose. The calcium ion is surrounded by eight oxygen atoms, These are arranged in symmetry-related pairs derived from four sugar and two water molecules. Three nonvicinal hydroxyl groups of fructose are involved in calcium binding. All the hydroxyl groups and water molecules are involved in forming an extensive hydrogen-bond network.

Some Trace Metals and their Ratios in Aloe (Aloe vera L.), Cucumber (Cucumis sativus L. var. tuberculatus Gabaj.) and Sponge-gourd (Luffa cylindrica L.) in Korea

  • Aloe (Aloe vera L.), cucumber (Cucumis sativus L. var. tuberculatus Gabaj.) and sponge.gourd (Luffa cylindrica L.) are well utilized in Asian countries as traditional medicines and cosmetics, or foods. And we carried out an experiment to see if there are some specific ratios among trace metals on the plants. Though the metal concentrations varied significantly depending on the sampling periods, aloe gel is high in iron (Fe) and calcium (Ca). Cucumber fruit juice is also high in iron (Fe) and potassium (K). Sponge.gourd sap contains a high amount of zinc (Zn) and calcium (Ca). The uses of the previous 3 plant parts are considered to have some relations to their different ratios and of their trace metals.
