Catalysts based on organic compounds, transition metal and metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have been applied to degrade or remove organophosphorus toxic compounds (OPs). During the last 20 years, various MOFs were designed and synthesized to suit application purposes. MOFs with $Zr_6$ based metal node and organic linker were widely used as catalysts due to their tunability for the pore size, porosity, surface area, Lewis acidic sites, and thermal stability. In this review, effect on catalytic efficiency between MOFs properties according to the structure, stability, particle size, number of connected-ligand, organic functional group, and so on will be discussed.
Hydrogen adsorption mechanism onto the porous metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) has been studied by density functional theory calculation. The selected functionals for the predict ion of interact ion energies between hydrogen and potential adsorption sites of MOF was utilized after the evaluation with the various functionals for interaction energy of $H_2C_6H_6$ model system the adsorption energy of hydrogen molecule into MOF was investigated with the consideration of the favorable adsorption sites and the orientations. We also calculated the second favorable adsorption sites by geometry optimization using every combination of two first absorbed hydrogen molecules. Based on the calculation of first and second adsorption sites and energies, the hydrogen adsorption into MOF follows a cooperative mechanism in which the initial metal sites initiate the propagation of the hydrogen adsorption on the whole frameworks. In addition, it was found that the interaction strength between the simple benzene ring with hydrogen is significantly reinforced when the benzene ring has been incorporated into the framework of MOFs.

Recently, people have concerned about environmental pollution. This environmental pollution occur due to many reasons such as heavy metal ions and anions. In this regard, many researchers have studied organic materials to monitor above reasons to protect environmental pollution. One of the organic materials for this function is chemosensor. This chemosensor has been studied and reported about monitoring toxic heavy metal ions and anions. In this study, the dye sensor was designed and synthesized through reaction of Rhodamine 6G and 1,3-Indanedion. this dye sensor selective detected $Hg^{2+}$ metal ions while showing red color absorption and yellowish-green strong fluorescence emission compared to other heavy metal ions such as $Cu^{2+}$, $Hg^{2+}$, $Ag^{2+}$, $Zn^{2+}$, $Fe^{2+}$ and $Fe^{3+}$. In this regard, we anticipated that this dye senosr can provide an significant material for monitoring mercury which cause environmental pollution. Thus, We investigated detailed properties of this dye sesnor with using UV-Vis absorption and fluorescent spectrophotometer, Job's plot method for metal binding complex, computational simulated calculation named Material Studio 4.3 suite to approach for electron distribution and HOMO/LUMO.

In this study, the relationship between metals (Cu, Cr, Cd, Zn. Pb, and Fe) 5 fractions and toxicity of soil samples from various contaminated sites in Korea were investigated. Metal toxicity of soils was tested using MetPLATE$^{TM}$ test kit, which is known as metal sensitive and organic insensitive. Significant amount of Fe was found in soils, and metal contents were in the order of Fe>Zn>Pb>Cu>Cr>Cd. Metal levels in organic fraction were rather high for all metals except Fe, and quite high percentages (35~79%) for residual fraction were observed for all metals. There were no significant relationships between the content of each metal fraction and toxicity which showed regression $R^2$in the range of 0.0003~0.414. However, correlation between toxicity and total metal contents showed regression coefficient $R^2$= 0.72. These results showed that the risk evaluation of metals in contaminated sites should be difficult to assess only by the contents of metal distribution because of the complexity of mixture of various metals.s.
Plasma polymerized styrene (ppS) thin films were prepared on ITO coated glass substrates for a MIM (metal-insulator-metal) structure with thermally evaporated Au thin film as metal contact. Also the ppS thin films were applied as organic insulator to a MIS (metal-insulatorsemiconductor) device with thermally evaporated pentacene thin film as organic semiconductor layer. After the I-V and C-V measurements with MIM and MIS structures, the ppS revealed relatively higher dielectric constant of k=3.7 than those of the conventional poly styrene and very low leakage current density of $1{\times}10^{-8}Acm^{-2}$ at electric field strength of $1MVcm^{-1}$. The MIS structure with the ppS dielectric layer showed negligible hysteresis in C-V characteristics. It would be therefore expected that the proposed ppS could be applied as a promising dielectric/insulator to organic thin film transistors, organic memory devices, and flexible organic electronic devices.
Removing hazardous materials from water resources is very important for efficient utilization of the resources, and adsorptive removal is regarded as a competitive technology when good adsorbents with high capacity/selectivity are available. Metal-organic framework (MOF), composed of both organic and inorganic (metallic) species, have been tried for various adsorptions because of huge surface area/pore volume, well-defined pore structure, and facile functionalization. In this review, we summarized technologies on adsorptive removal of hazardous organics from water mainly using MOFs as adsorbents. Instead of reporting high adsorption capacity or rate, we summarized mechanisms of interaction between adsorbates (organics) and adsorbents (MOFs) and methods to modify or functionalize MOFs for effective adsorptions. We expect for readers of this review to understand needed characteristics of adsorbents for the adsorptive removal, functionalization of MOFs for effective adsorption and so on. Moreover, they might have an idea on storage and delivery of organics via understanding of the mechanism of adsorption and interaction.

The chemical fractions of heavy metals were investigated in the soils of reclaimed and natural tidelands of southwest coastal area of Korea. The distribution pattern of each heavy metal in different fractions was in the order: 1) Cu : organic bound > organic complex > residual > exchangeable = water soluble. 2) Cr : residual > organic bound > organic complex > water soluble > exchangeable. 3) Pb : organic bound > residual > organic complex > water soluble > exchangeable. 4) Cd residual > organic bound > organic complex > water soluble = exchangeable. 5) Zn : organic bound > residual > organic complex > water soluble > exchangeable. The content of residual Zn showed positive correlation with organic matter content but organic bound Zn showed negative correlation with CEC. The content of residual and exchangeable Cd showed highly positive correlation with organic matter content but residual, organic bound, and exchangeable Cd showed negative correlations with CEC. Water soluble Pb showed positive correlation with CEC but organic bound Pb showed negative correlation with CEC.

Chemical nature of nascent metal surfaces which is one of the important active sources for tribochemical reactions was investigated using a newly developed method. Some enhanced activities were observed. For example, organic compounds chemisorbed on nascent gold surfaces and aromatic compounds decomposed on nascent nickel surfaces resulting in hydrogen evolution. Non-polar compounds such as organic sulfides had a higher chemisorption activity on nascent steel surfaces than polar compounds such as fatty acids and phosphates. Organic sulfides reacted directly with nascent steel surfaces and the surface was covered with metal sulfides. The activity for the chemisorption of organic compounds was closely dependent on the electronic structure of metals. Although benzene chemisorbed very easily on nascent surfaces of transition metals, it did not chemisorb ell nascent surfaces of simple metals. Boundary lubricating behaviors of extreme pressure additives were explained on the bases of the chemical activities of nascent surfaces obtained in this investigation. Under mild conditions, polar compounds such as fatty acids and phosphates were effective for boundary lubrication, because surfaces are covered with oxide layers. On the other hand, sulfides were more effective under severe conditions where the oxide layers were removed and the nascent surfaces were formed.
The newly-developed Meerwein-Ponndorf-Verley (MVP) type reagents using aluminum, boron and other metals for reduction of organic functional groups such as carbonyl and epoxy compounds have been surveyed. highlighted and reviewed in this account are the appearance of new MPV type reagents and their application to the selective reduction of organic functions. Finally, this account emphasizes the distinct contrast in the reducing characteristics existed between metal hydride reagents and MPV reagents, and compares their usefulness in organic synthesis.
This study was performed mainly to examine whether a city with a metal industrial presence presents different characteristics in ambient volatile organic compound (VOC) concentrations compared to residential (RES) and commercial/residential combined (CRC) areas of another city by using long-term monitoring data (from January 2006 to February 2009). For most target VOCs, ambient concentrations in the metal-industrialized city were lower than for the RES and CRC areas. Aromatic compounds were the predominant VOC groups for the metal industry city as well as for other land uses. The ambient concentrations of aromatic VOCs were higher in the winter and spring seasons than in the summer and fall seasons, whereas those of chlorinated VOCs did not show any distinctive variations. In addition, higher concentrations were observed during daytime hours. The correlations between the ambient target compounds were statistically significant, except for the correlation between benzene and ozone.
